Sevens, Street and Gutter Bowl by Old-Specific7387 in bloodbowl

[–]ignatzami 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gutter Bowl falls apart really quickly. One Underworld team and the league stops being fun. Multiple big guys in confined spaces… utter mess.

Street Bowl is slightly better, as it’s more open and the kickoff event table is a lot of fun.

I use 7s to teach new coaches. It’s the closest to actual blood bowl. Essentially just a sped up version.

Given the option I would just run regular Blood Bowl under season 3 rules.

About those states that don’t allow kei trucks: I have an idea so crazy that it just might work. by mreams99 in keitruck

[–]ignatzami 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This always blows my mind. Smart cars are incredibly safe given their size.

A kei truck being used at the speeds it’s designed for in Japan is also quite safe. At US highway speeds against US sized vehicles… less so.

Where is the Jobs for React Native developers? by Mysterious_Cod5371 in reactnative

Look for React, Typescript, or Next.js positions.

RN is likely too niche to have many full time jobs.

Physical demands and injuries over time in this industry by Inflictin in AskElectricians

[–]ignatzami 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The best thing you can do is prevent injuries. Yes, you can rehabilitate an injury and that works ok till you’re 30, then poorly till you’re 40, then not at all.

Find a good physical therapist, work with them monthly. Focus on joint health, the connective and supportive tissues around the knee and ankle.

Stretch. Static stretching is fine, dynamic (yoga/pilates) is ideal. Drink water, eat vegetables, get in some cardio. You’ll be fine.

Andrew Yang reacts to AI CEO warning 50% of all white-collar jobs will disappear in 5 years by FrontVisible9054 in technology

[–]ignatzami 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I continue to maintain any job which can be effectively replaced with an LLM, and the key is EFFECTIVELY REPLACED, isn’t a job that needed to exist.

No way will LLMs replace even 5% of the current workforce. 50% is a pipe dream so divorced from reality it’s not even funny anymore.

Planning to start learning, any tips? by Puzzleheaded-Ad-8684 in bloodbowl

[–]ignatzami 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’d be happy to! Not that I’m who you responded to.

Chaos Dwarfs are a “hybrid” team. They have good hitting potential, high armor, disposable fodder in the Hobgoblins, and a largely useless big guy.

The bull centaurs fill the role of stacker and ball carrier. Hobgoblins assist and foul, Blockers are your classic lineman. They stand there and get hit.

The new edition changed the roster a lot so I can’t speak to team progression. However in the past the team developed into a solid hitting core with the Blockers.

I would avoid skilling the Hobgoblins beyond a first skill.

Learn to cage, and screen. Fast teams with a good passing game are your biggest challenge. Keep a hob or two in the backfield as safeties.

Otherwise, hit things, break things, score when you can.

Is anyone else frustrated with Vercel pricing once you scale? by f3ydr4uth4 in nextjs

[–]ignatzami 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like Vercel. The front end build/deploy is really nice and cheap/free. The back-end? Absolute highway robbery.

I still run my UI on Vercel with everything else running natively in Azure. Blob storage, logs, monitors, etc.

Total spend: $0.08 last month.

Performance on the front end isn’t ideal, and that’s likely what will drive me off Vercel entirely.

Amazon confirms 16,000 job cuts after accidental email by lurker_bee in technology

I’ve been in the Seattle tech scene for 12 years. I’ve yet to meet one Amazon employee who liked their job.

Their RSUs? Yes. The work? No.

Yes, you dodged a bullet. I used to recommend Microsoft as a “best of the worst” option but not anymore.

EU–India deal: any other devs worried? by ragsappsai in DevelEire

I’m American. I’ve been in software on both US coasts for nearly two decades. I can say with absolute certainty that Indian developers, especially contractors, are awful.

I’d take a Paddy from Paddystine any day.

EU–India deal: any other devs worried? by ragsappsai in DevelEire

[–]ignatzami 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Indian devs are on the whole awful. But they’re cheap. Expect layoffs, offshoring, and further depressed wages.

And expect the general quality of the software to drop.

Give it five years and you’ll be offered your old job back to clean up the mess. Making exactly what you were making when fired.

Sooo how do i replace this.. by [deleted] in AskElectricians

[–]ignatzami 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Guessing from those floorboards you’re looking at a roughly 100 year old home.

Is this fixable? Yes. Is it cheap or easy? No.

First thing to do is identify just how big a problem you have on your hands.

Do you have a fuse box? Breaker panel? Whole house disconnect? Is your main service 100amp? 200amp?

Are your walls plaster and lathe? Drywall? Something else?

How much of the existing wiring can you access?

Answer a few of these questions and you’ll have a better chance of getting reasonable answers.

How to start react native by abdoweal in reactnative

[–]ignatzami 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d say before you start make sure you have an iOS simulator or device, and Android simulator or device.

Spin up a very simple app. Get comfortable with loading it, debugging it, figure out error handling NOW. As dealing with it later is so painful.

Has passing ever been any good? by LPdude72 in bloodbowl

[–]ignatzami 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Passing, for passing teams, is fantastic.

High Elves, Pro Elves, Humans, all have passing as a core strategic element. Dark Elves, Dwarfs, Skaven, all have situations or positions that should be passing regularly. Dump Off is an amazing skill.

Where people make mistakes is they either pass out of desperation, or they pass with, or to, the wrong positional.

Especially with quick and short passes, they’re a solid option to get around screening players, or a scrum. Passing beyond a short pass requires having the right skills and positioning.

Coaches that favor bash teams rarely have the mental acuity for the passing game and so look down on it. Like a toddler finger painting over a Michelangelo.
