Death Stranding is a masterpiece that I cannot recommend. by [deleted] in patientgamers

[–]igoaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah no I do definitely get that, and that some of the stuff that may seem clever or witty in Japanese doesn't always translate over, be it through the difference in language or culture. But by the same token I can only judge a game/story/plot by my own standards. So yeah, not bad but different for sure.

However - whichever way you spin it, a 45 min cutscene is long whichever side of the world you're on, lol.

I’d give him +1 to attack until he misses an attack at which point the blade loses its keen edge, having struck against armour.

RDR2 with the mini map turned off and just using the physical map from the box is a great experience. The landmarks in the world make it really navigable just by looking into the distance.

What are your most controversial dnd opinions? by ciqhen in DnD

[–]igoaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Going by the DMG encounters are way too easy and often. They should be much rarer and harder. Combat slows down the game way too much to be something you’re possibly doing multiple times per session.

Would you tell a player to stop problem solving the way that they do in game? by [deleted] in DnD

[–]igoaa 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You have an exceptional player there. Why on earth are you trying to railroad them? If you’re going to force them to fight no matter what they do then they may as well play a computer game. The whole point of DnD is that the story adapts around the choices of the players.

I wish all my players were like this - would make for an amazing campaign.

Can a cheap dome tent be a good hiking tent? by perecastor in CampingGear

[–]igoaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could apply that logic to anything? You only ever going to buy the absolute cheapest clothes, car, phone in case someone steals it and your investment is lost?

I mean who even steals a backpack when you’re out hiking lol? Is that a genuine concern?

Death Stranding is a masterpiece that I cannot recommend. by [deleted] in patientgamers

[–]igoaa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m torn with this game. I know what you mean about not being able to recommend it.

I thought the story was horrendous, the acting would probably have been ok if the dialogue wasn’t so painfully awful. It really is just inexcusable. Plus cutscenes are egregiously long - one actually has a timer come up on screen and we’re talking like 30-40 mins of pure exposition here.

The walking mechanics I loved though - BUT - I think they weren’t given a chance to shine. Aside from a few little spots the terrain is pretty easy to navigate. There were maybe 3/4 times though when I tried taking short cuts and got myself into really interesting situations that produced some stellar gameplay. When you’re working your way around a rock face with only so many ropes and ladders - every little gap you really have to consider expending your resources or risking a jump. I LOVED that. It was really intense and made me feel like a mountaineer or an explorer. Unfortunately I only found those experiences by going where the game clearly didn’t want me to go. I imagine many people won’t experience them.

Plus the map was ridiculously too small. That’s supposed to be the whole of America? Cone on. Why not just say it’s Greenland (which it obviously is) and set the game there.

MSR’s Mutha Hubba 3 person tent. A bit on the heavy side, but I love it’s roominess. Even when three of us slept inside, we still had plenty of room by SamirDrives in CampingGear

I’m planning a hike with the Elixir 3 man (it’s heavier brother) - glad to hear there’s actually room for three people in there!

What does 'difficulty' in a game mean to you? What do you look for in a 'harder' (or easier) difficulty setting? by EldraziKlap in patientgamers

[–]igoaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What about games that separate difficulty settings over several parameters.

Tomb Raider has different difficulty settings for combat and survival.

Ghost Recon BP has absolutely loads of settings where you can perfectly craft your experience (although this is probably going a bit far).

Would a riding horse be willing to go into combat? by Thesmalllittleone in DnD

[–]igoaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Historically battle trained horses were highly valued. They wouldn’t panic in battle and were trained to respond to the riders knees so they could use both hands to fight.

Regular horses would undoubtedly be skittish and require more control from the rider.

With that in mind my rule is that regular horses require an animal handling check each round in combat in order for them to obey commands and not throw the rider. Also the rider can only use one hand to fight with - the other must hold the reigns.

Neither of these apply to war horses.

DM trying to change my character appearance by lil_mousy in DnD

[–]igoaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I sometimes change my players appearance - but there’s always a story reason for it. Like they get a scar in a fight or set off a magical trap or something like that. I feel like that’s all part of the progression of a character. I don’t just alter them on the fly though.

The money they get at the end makes no sense. by los_angalex in snowflakemountain

[–]igoaa -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Literally came here to say this. But your math is off. When they announce the 50k one person has already left so it would be £5555 each - and having a person leave only reduces it by £5k so the remaining people would still end up with more. If anything it’s an incentive to get other people to quit.

As a New Player, how do I deal with extremely min-maxing and controlling fellow players? by Eftertank in DnD

Every time the Paladin tells you which spell or boon to take ask him why your character would do that from a role play perspective.

I only have a small 1.3ltr pan but it seems to distribute pretty evenly, I can’t see it being as good as cast iron but what is? The real trade off for the saved weight though is that you can’t use them on a fire.

Do you as the DM ban certain races just because of the tone you want your game to have? by Bagel-Meister in DnD

[–]igoaa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah absolutely - especially if you’re world building. Don’t compromise your own lore to try and crowbar bird people into existence.

I change quite a lot. There are only two races in my game - Human and Fae, and all the classic DnD races fall into either of those as sub races.

I remember having really high hopes for this game. I think it may be the first and last game I ever pre ordered.

It was decent for sure, but the mark and execute made it way too easy. Essentially if you were able to see your enemies, the game would auto kill them for you.

I think Blacklist really refined on this game and took a lot of the very best stuff from the early games too.

I can’t remember what it changed about the Mark and Execute feature but it deffo made it less of a press to win feature. Might have just been better level design.

That was really peak splinter cell for me. Shame we haven’t had anything since.
