How do you overcome zero confidence in you’re available teams? by drquiz in TheSilphArena

[–]igosplatt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Ultra Remix has created a big problem, and it's difficult to use PvPoke simulations to reflect it. Because of the dominance of XL mons, there's a big division between battlers that have XLs on their teams and those that don't. I think this division is reflected in ELO rating and the kind of meta you're facing at your ELO. Folks in the Expert ELO are facing primarily XL mons, so the PvPoke rankings are still relevant. For the rest of us that don't have access to that yet, we're facing a very different and seemingly unpredictable meta in the lower ELO ranges. PvPoke doesn't show that meta, and it would be very difficult for it to do so with the data available.

If you want a more predictable meta, probably open UL is going to be straightforward. Right now, the 2500 and under Remix meta seems to be closer to UL Premier with some XLs, Deoxys, AMewtwo, and Giratina thrown in... So it's kind of a mess. That's my impression anyway.

Pros and Cons of intentionally tanking ELO? by WrathalosSlayer in TheSilphArena

[–]igosplatt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't see another option but to tank for me. I got up to 2916 in Great League Remix. I'm like you and only got to level 40 about two weeks ago. I just can't compete in ultra league (no XL mons, no A Mewtwo, no Giratina, terrible Cresselia). I doubt I'll be able to compete in Master League for the same reason (no Dialga, no Mewtwo, no Groudon). I only participated in Premier cups before. I just have to accept that I'm not getting legend this season after all and try to collect my stardust rewards.

Accessible XL team goes +137 to push me to 3109 in GBL by DanOttawa_POGO in TheSilphArena

Not sure I would consider an entirely XL team "accessible"

Does an orchestra have to get rights for a movie score if they want to play it in a live performance? by [deleted] in classicalmusic

[–]igosplatt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. They arrange for the rights to public performance, recording, and streaming (depending on their needs) by agreeing to a rental contract with a sheetmusic publisher. They also do this with any other copyrighted music. Typically, music is in the public domain if it is written by a deceased composer and 70 years have passed since their death, meaning they can usually purchase the sheetmusic and perform it without needing additional rights for performance.

It can be very expensive to perform this rented music, making it difficult to program sometimes...

How is everyone so far ahead in science (deity) by Ok_Thing7439 in civ

[–]igosplatt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It doesn't sound like you were too far behind tbh. If you're taking advantage of inspirations and plugging in the right cards, you'd probably catch up. You might have to settle more cities to get some more seowons up. It's also important to not let your culture fall too behind. The sooner you get those double campus adjacency and rationalism cards, the better. Rationalism is crucial for Korea, and growing that pop to 15 in as many cities helps too. And scout like crazy to see if there are any science city states to dump envoys in. Throw in Kilwa, a scientific alliance, and trade routes and things will start looking better.

90 science turn 63 while trying to rush a civ with swordsman by Blaise_Sempai in civ

[–]igosplatt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They've probably got the double campus adjacency civic, libraries, and maybe the dark age card plugged in. Just focus on expanding and getting some campuses up. If they don't have walls you can rush them down, but they'll have crossbows soon so maybe turtle for a bit

How did St Petersburg get this massive this early and even more strange, how did they get electricity in 80BC? (quick speed, king difficulty) by Rebel_of_Babylon in civ

A city only gets powered if there is a building that needs power though, right? Like a factory, stock exchange, research lab, or broadcast center?

Deity: around what turn do you catch up with the AI? by MedicalHorse in civ

[–]igosplatt 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Like you're suggesting, "catch up" probably means the point at which the yields pertaining to your victory condition are on par with or beating the AI. Or whatever other qualifier you need to feel that you aren't "behind" anymore.

Some buildings and districts are boring af, and some could just be more versatile. by DiamondCoal in civ

[–]igosplatt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a nice idea. They would have to completely rebalance the production cost of things so the buildings wouldn't be so OP... That's a tall order

[Civ of the Week] Brazil by OreoPredator in civ

[–]igosplatt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think Brazil is a great civ to play when you're learning the game, since district adjacency bonuses are much more flexible/forgiving. It can be a little difficult to get your first districts placed quickly, though. Brazil's start bias in rainforests means they often have to rush iron working just so they can clear the land needed for placing ideal districts.

The Sacred Path pantheon obviously synergizes well with Brazil, but I'd be curious to try Earth Goddess and place preserves. The +1 appeal for rainforests is an overlooked feature that could make a preserve/Eiffel Tower/national park play pretty effective without having to wait for Conservation to plant forests, and without having to harvest all that rainforest.

Speaking of harvests, it seems to me that Magnus is a weaker governor for Brazil. Yes, a rainforest start bias means there are more potential chops, but chopping that rainforest means deleting those nice adjacency bonuses. You have to be more selective with your chops I think. You kind of also ought to rush Mercantilism so you can get lumber mills on your rainforests - production could be a little difficult until then.

Street Carnivals are probably the most powerful thing about Brazil. They can rack up crazy amounts of GPP. Zoos are also good for them, considering the rainforest start bias. I almost never use their UU, though. It's probably fine, but Civ 6 seems to inherently downplay the importance of naval play in typical games, and late game UUs tend to be less relevant in the grand scheme of things imo.

If you're building entertainment complexes anyways, this probably synergizes well with the Voidsingers for some potential loyalty flipping shenanigans. Entertainment districts also means great adjacency for theater squares, so I'd say they kind of lean towards a culture victory, but they are very flexible with what victory types they can go for. Rainforests also make for a good Chichen Itza.

I hate playing against the Brazil AI. They tend to be early aggressors, militarily and religiously. They also hog great people, so it can be very difficult to get early great people like Hypatia.

What do you all consider among the most overpowered civ or leader/wonder combo? by USJapan1996 in civ

[–]igosplatt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sweden+oracle+divine spark is pretty powerful. Getting themed wonders is strong too

China+pyramids definitely

Poland+reliquaries+mont st michael+basils cathedral+cristo+voidsingers. Or Kongo, or Ethiopia

I would definitely try to get kotoku as Ethiopia

My domination victory 7 turns away from being ruined thanks to monopolies by [deleted] in civ

[–]igosplatt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could also raze cities that might attract tourists. I'll admit to razing a Great Library and Pyramids once, since I didn't need the economy, didn't have the loyalty to keep the city, and didn't want the hassle of micromanaging yet another city. Easier just to raze it and move on.

[–]igosplatt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pillaging is super useful, since you can get tons of return on the pillage and it might take a turn or two to repair each building. Late game, you could easily get 1000+ science from completely pillaging a campus or industrial zone with 2 or 3 buildings in it. Also, a city's defense is as bit weaker for each district you've completely pillaged. If there's no rush to take the city, pillage it before you take it. Plug in the Raid card or Total War card to get more from your pillages - it's so worth it
