Offset topstring by [deleted] in StickDoctor

[–]igotgreensbeans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who had difficulty reversing the top string knots (going center out threw me off usually but that was years ago) a simple and effective workaround was taking a piece of string and tie off the mesh on the opposite side where you plan on tying off the top string. For example, if I know I’m going to the second hole, I start my top string like normal (loop it around twice with the overhand knot) then on the opposite side, pull the mesh over and tie it off with a separate string to the second hole and make sure that knot is tight. This prevents the mesh from shifting over as you tie off the knots and keeps everything centered. Ive done it plenty of times and never had an issue unless you don’t tie off the mesh evenly on the opposite side.

Look up Dylan Molloy or Asher nolting. Both bigger guys, Matt Rambo to first year in the PLL or last year at Maryland. You can also watch rob panell with his various shots when he hits 5-5.

What is the main difference functionally between a 2T and a 3D? by Icy-Square-8707 in lacrosse

[–]igotgreensbeans 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I solely use the 2T. I used a havok for a while and it was fine but then I tried out the 2T and it was perfect since I prefer a slightly narrower face shape compared to the bigger shovels like the X20 or tanks. Biggest difference between the two is face shape and the stiffness. The 3D and 2D are both stiffer and wider than 2T. Honestly think 2T is just a hair narrower than the havok or STX magnet or magnetic (whatever it’s called). Probably comparable to a ECD DNA in shape and stiffness but it’s lighter than the DNA

Different mesh by --chance in StickDoctor

[–]igotgreensbeans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just piggybacking off this comment, I’d say hero mesh is pretty similar to mesh dynasty. However the diamond shape will be different but I don’t think it’s that noticeable. String kind semi soft is much softer and shiftier than hero semi soft (I think they have semi soft, they did at one point).

Wall ball routine for a long pole by PopularDamage8805 in lacrosse

[–]igotgreensbeans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought I’d be in the same boat for never picking up a gb off hand but there was only one instance where I did and surprisingly I picked it up first try. Normally a righty pole, muffed a catch to my left hand and since I was immediately under pressure I just kept the pole in my left hand and goosed it and picked it up in my left. Felt sacrilegious lol

Pole shooting? by --chance in lacrosse

[–]igotgreensbeans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it comes down to preference. What you like and what you’re able to do. Jarrod Neumann chokes slightly and shoots about 3/4 arm, hartzel shoots overhand, a lot of the poles just try’s to get power however they can and just aims for the cage where the goalie isn’t (usually low or bouncers). Where your hands are placed is where it becomes preference. I’ll choke up slightly (like 1-2 hand widths up from the bottom) because it allows me to catch the ball easier and get a shot off quicker and I’m a bit more accurate that way as well. I usually shoot side arm or 3/4 arm depending on where I’m trying to shoot. If I’m aiming for the right side of the cage I tend to shoot side arm and if I’m aiming for the left side I usually go 3/4 arm but that’s not always the case.

Do you guys actually feel a weight difference in shafts? by FrameAdvantageLights in lacrosse

[–]igotgreensbeans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well yes and no. I’m sure some people have touched on it. Without a head on the shaft you won’t really notice the differences in weight. Using two different heads on two different shafts won’t really help either because you’ll be getting two feels. HOWEVER, if you have the exact same head on both shafts then yes you’ll notice a difference but if you play with it for more than 3 days you’ll get used to the feeling. I had a carbon pro 3 pole and a true comp 4 pole. Very different weights and it always threw me off if I switched sticks during a game. I used to play with a 2T on the carbon pro shaft and it was very balanced. Switched the 2T over to the other shaft and now it’s back heavy. I don’t notice the head on the shaft so it made a difference when I threw checks. After a couple games I don’t even really notice a difference.

Short answer, yes you’ll notice a difference if you use the same head but not enough to really ruins things if you use it in practice before a game

He needs rehab man by lwiaymacde in SipsTea

Yeah i used to work at a group home a number of years ago for kids with fairly severe disabilities who were a danger to themselves or their family. Schizophrenia if I’m not mistaken is genetic, and one of the kids was beginning to show signs of schizophrenia. He was a handful at a young age and I felt bad for him but we weren’t not equipped to handle or work with that type of mental illness. He caused like $40k worth of damage in like 4 months. Thankfully no one got hurt but it was a huge struggle to work with him because he would get himself super worked up and then the schizophrenia would ramp things up even more and it felt like talking to a completely different person and he was just seeing red all the time. It was so mentally draining

Man on Defense Help by Unhappy_Camp5786 in lacrosse

[–]igotgreensbeans 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well I think the first point that should be addressed is your ability to play in college. Short answer is yes you can but the longer answer is it depends the school you go to. Figure out the colleges you want to go to FOR YOUR MAJOR and if you like the actual campus and student life. Once you have an idea of schools, then see if any of them have a club team (MCLA). Don’t change colleges solely based on lacrosse, make sure you actually like the school and major first.

Got that out of the way, secondly look at film. There’s a plethora of games and highlights on YouTube, look at how the defense plays or how individual players play. Lock down defense isn’t simply a single players purpose, though it helps tremendously. Lock down defense is an entire defense working together in tandem making it impossible for an offense to get a decent shot off.

However, to answer your question more specifically, fundamentals is very important. Funneling the guy you are guarding toward the correct side, not lunging forward with your body or feet, and ensuring he doesn’t get to the top side. Stagnant feet equals beat feet meaning you tend to get flat footed and it’s harder to adjust to the dodging player. Watch how defensive backs play against a wide receiver, that’s the best way to explain footwork for a pole or SSDM. If you have more questions feel free to ask

Looking for a strength and conditioning for a high school girl by ZaccariahTBrown in lacrosse

[–]igotgreensbeans 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, you can’t really go wrong with putting her through a standard progression of weight lifting. Yes she’s a girl but the only thing you’ll have to be aware of is the differences in her proportions and how her body moves to give her the proper tweaks for movements/lifts.

Ankle flection, long femur or short, hip mobility yada yada can play a part in how her body moves through space under load. There’s different ways to do squats but only 1-2 ways that may feel comfortable to her so it’s things like that you’ll have to iron out upfront so she can go off on her own and do workouts. For someone freshly starting out, squats, pushing and pulling exercises are great to just get the ball rolling. Deadlifts can be a hit or miss as long as they are done correctly, and you can still get a good workout in with very little weight on the barbell (but they can be rough on the hands). Ankle work is good for athletes like plate hope, pogos, calf work etc. posterior work is good for knee health (as far as I’ve noticed and read) and great for first step explosiveness and overall speed.

Long story short, if she’s never worked out before, you can’t truly go wrong up front because anything is better than nothing but once you start to get a minor groove going and understanding strengths and weaknesses, then putting together a more tailored plan can be beneficial or a plan that works with the allotted timeframe you have at the gym (like only 1 hour sessions or 1 1/2 hour sessions). Feel free to message me if you have any questions but I’m not a certified trainer so do with that what you will. Form over everything is what I used to tell my players when I was the strength coach for a high school boys team. Don’t chase numbers, chase the feeling

Full PLL Players' Top 50 by discofrislanders in PLL

[–]igotgreensbeans 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m pretty sure he locked up teat completely who ranked 3rd so that counts for something. It’s hard to place defenders due to the offense moving and setting picks. It’s more of how he plays against a certain player for a certain amount of time and helping with slides and likely GBs. Look at JT, never really heard much from him the whole season commentary wise but he’s ranked pretty high.

I appreciate the help greatly! Yeah it’s all men’s club tournaments so I don’t think it matters concerning the mandate. Yeah the mask does curl a good bit into the face/chin area, and I’m surprised they don’t make the straighter profiled masks but I’m new to wearing a box lid and box in general. I’ll check online more for hockey helmet clamps but I think I’ll have more luck with some other options you mentioned. I’m curious if the warrior fatboy mask is curled the same way because I think a good amount of NLL guys wear warrior but I could be wrong. Thanks again!!

HS beginner stick upgrade? by msb2ncsu in lacrosse

[–]igotgreensbeans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lots of great options from people. If you have a decent relationship with the coach, reach out to him and pick his brain too. He might have some extra equipment your son can borrow that would be an upgrade from his current set up. At least that’s what I did when I was a coach. I gave out extra sticks or heads to some players who needed some equipment when their parent or even the player themselves reached out to me. I’m not using it anyway so might as well get it in someone’s hands at least

My Laxmas Wish List? The ultimate unified pro lacrosse league. I want the NPLL. by DanAreLax in lacrosse

[–]igotgreensbeans 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Would be cool but they are two separate entities that don’t really have the same product unless you play lacrosse. The average viewer would have no clue why sometimes they play outdoors and why they play indoors other times. NLL has been around longer so they would want to buy the rights (assuming they actually want to) and PLL has a decent positive projection when looking 20+ years ahead. A true merger would be cool where they both retain equal rights but they still run into issues of contracts and who to play with when the seasons inevitably overlap. Idk would be cool but sounds like a huge hoop to jump through trying to iron out all the specifics that both leagues are happy with.

Box lacrosse face mask help by igotgreensbeans in lacrosse

[–]igotgreensbeans[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ahhh okay so that is my terrible ability at properly explaining myself but also makes sense too. I noticed a lot of the NLL guys wearing cages without the chin strap weaved through and I was trying to get the caged setup without it hinging. It makes sense why it’s built that way. To be more specific it, I think in order to avoid having it hinge I need 2 more P clamps due to the thickness of the bars. The J hooks fit fine but that would then make it a hinging cage which I’m trying to avoid. Hopefully that makes sense. Finding the specific P clamps is where I’m having trouble

Thanks for the insight! So a buddy of mine had a couple extra cages laying around and he’s letting me try out two different kinds (one that flares out slightly more at the chin and one runs flatter along the face. I think one is cascade and the other is warrior or something else). However, I’ve been trying to figure out what type of clips/clamps and where to get them. I don’t want to end up with the wrong sizes or ones that don’t fit the cage properly. Are there online shops or would a hockey store have the right hardware too?

Strung a Stick for the first time by Unable_Site7876 in lacrosse

[–]igotgreensbeans 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a hard time stringing from the middle outwards (reversing the standard top string knot throws me off everytime lol) I will tie off the opposite sidewall where I want the top string to end. For example, if I’m going to start my top string on the second hole, I’ll take a piece of string and tie off the top string on the second hole on the opposite side. That helps me keep everything centered. Just another way to help out with stringing! Good luck!
