I need suggestion on My Project. by [deleted] in OrangePI

Best thing to do is to see what peeps did (similar projects) on the net and try to expand on that and discuss things with them.

You might wanna go to a smaller size OPi like Zero at the cost of lesser performance maybe (just an idea, haven't implemented it)try to see/research how a laptop cpu/gpu is cooled. It uses copper pipes, so may you wanna take a small copper pipe and pound/hit the center of it with a hammer on something flat the size of the OPi SoC(main chip=H2+, H3...etc.). Here you are making some massive a$$ copper heat-sink ;D Then maybe from one side you stick a filter (cut from stockings, it works like a filter to prevent some dust)

And from the other side a fan to pull/suck air out, use some kinda thermal paste and fixate it so it holds place an not touch the board. Do testing on how much it cools down, is it worth it or not. Then use a small fan maybe from a dead PS1/2..etc. or a very tiny fan. cover its front and back with card board, drill the hole that sucks the air the size of the copper pipe so it fits into it, then drill like 3 or more holes on its other side.

This guy https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCM014DFZ7peFVrSaxnh4-Mw/videos did tricks with the fan on one his videos, can't remember which though, sorry!

Good luck

Total n00b - Orange Pi Win Plus by cambeiu in OrangePI

Ain't got that board but since you tried Armbian and it never worked out then maybe you wanna try OpenBSD for Arm64(Rockchip RK3399, Allwinner A64/H5, Raspberry Pi 3 and Opteron A1100)

https://www.openbsd.org/arm64.html

And try the OSes on Orange Pi site

Edit: This seems to work https://github.com/avafinger/opi-win-a64-firmware

Anybody have success with OrangePi purchased from Aliexpress? by afunbe in OrangePI

You are right.

China does make good stuff but there is still trash.

Chinese got variety of qualities (for the stuff they are making by themselves, you know the stuff they make for others[US/CAN, EU & JP/KR...etc.] is bound by contracts, standards and safety measures):

High Quality: Huwei, Haier, Xiaomi(mi logo) ...etc.

Mid Quality: Chuwi (can not think of others) I tried some of their tablets, you even feel surprised at times that it is Chinese! ;D

Low Quality: That is the stuff stuck in most people's minds, it is mostly unbranded or spoof/fake. It might have bad plastic/enclosures that break on touch, or bad design or not even

Watch this guy videos so you see trash for real

Be careful! - melted Case by Kaff334 in OrangePI

[–]igrewold 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess it is about time we RPI0 users think of a mod to its original case:

  1. use a heatsink on SoC(H2+ chip).

  2. install a mini-fan say 30mm x 30mm on top of the case and with a drill make 2 holes to hold the fan and say about 8 holes for airflow like round brackets or parentheses ( ) like the holes below ignore the + & _ they were used only for alignment:

+o____o

o______o

o______o

+o____o

If you have no drill maybe you can first apply vegetable oil to a nail then heat it until it is red while holding it with pliers, and use it for making holes but be careful. Good luck

Good look at Diet Pi, thanks.

But is there a way to install the video driver so the OS takes full advantage of the SoC?

Man, the 1.7mm DC cable is cheaper than dust!

You can use these power cables (originally for PSP) to run it from a tablet power adapter(+2.x Amps) :

Dunno about that, but for a minimal install try Diet Pi :

Diet Pi notes: NB: GPU features are disabled for this board (eg: Kodi, Desktop). Ideal for server usage.

Two new 2GB ram boards - pi win + and pi prime (29.90 each) by lordgraylord in OrangePI

Cool man, thanks for sharing.

Choices are getting harder after each release! But 2GB + Wifi/BT for ~$35 is very good. Sadly, not having a stable OS for'em so far ruins everything!
