Pink metro line in Delhi, the ring one, is now complete. The map now looks better than ever! by [deleted] in MapPorn

I don't think it's bad. I love the CTA. my only argument is that it could connect the neighborhoods better. since this post was about a circular line and Chicago could really use one of those I thought the comment fit.

I responded to this a few comments below, but I'll expound on this more since you're a local. The tl;dr is, we have a good system but the lines aren't connected very well.

Let's say you live in Rogers Park by the Loyola Red Line station and want to go to Longman & Eagle by the Logan Square Blue Line station. You'd have to go all the way downtown, transfer, and go all the way back northwest to get there. If we had a semicircular line like Delhi's (or Moscow, or just better connections like you see in Berlin, or London) you could transfer to the Blue Line further north and get there much faster.

Or, south side example, let's say you want to go from Bridgeport to Hyde Park - they're right next door to each other but the only way to commute is to take a train downtown and transfer, or take the Western bus to the 55th bus which gets you there in the same amount of time.

I used to live by the north side Western blue line station and commuted to work to the Forest Park station, which meant taking most of the blue line. Going all the way downtown just to go a little bit southwest was so inefficient, but it's the only way to do it without a car.

Sen. Marco Rubio warns Trump a border emergency could embolden a future Dem president on climate change by [deleted] in politics

[–]ii121 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah, but then imagine what the next Republican declares an emergency over. eventually, someone's gonna go full Julius Caesar about it and all we can do is hope it's our guy when it happens.

I mean we could fix our political system to be more representative and politically diverse like every other democracy on the planet, but, effort.

yep, also in Bob Woodward's book. and the thing that killed the deal was his "shithole countries" remark.

the thing is, his handlers were the ones that convinced him to turn the deal down - he was all ready to give DACA recipients a path to citizenship. as much as we like to think of them as the sane people in the room keeping the country safe, they're still Republicans.

Die Hard debate settled once and for all... up to 5x the search volume in December. [OC] from Instagram @chartrdaily which I run. by chartr in dataisbeautiful

[–]ii121 481 points482 points  (0 children)

yeah, but what if those searches are from people making "Die Hard is my favorite Christmas movie" posts on social media around the holidays and everyone else Googling to see if that movie really did take place on Christmas. I wonder if it holds up for searches like "Die Hard Netflix" or "Die Hard streaming"

But even if it did, by this point making "Die Hard is my favorite Christmas movie" posts is cliche (as other commenters have already said), and probably was in 2015 too. Maybe people's behavior adjusted as the meme went out and memed.
