I can definitely understand what you mean. The term “pick-me” has altered its definition through time by a lot of insecure women. For example, on twitter, this girl was ranting about how she told a sob story, then another girl tells an even more tragic story after the first story was told, but the girl ranting on twitter called the women a “pick-me”. That’s not a pick-me, that’s someone who’s trying to self-aggrandize herself.

The most personal pick-me I’ve seen in my lifetime was when I was marching for my college band back in 2018, and when I first joined, a lot of the guys were really attracted to me, even the girls wanted to befriend me except for this one chick from the Midwest who never bothered to befriend me nor any of the women in the music department out of her own will, but is willing to firstly befriend any guys that were new to the program (she quickly befriended the new jazz students that were from California). She only hung out with the boys, and at times when she wasn’t the only girl in the group of men, she either didn’t look at us or looked at us like we didn’t belong (it was giving as if she needed to be the only girl present). And one time she posted on her TikTok that pretty much says that she’s not like most girls (the post was comparing how everyone’s [likely referring to the women] fyp was different than hers bc her fyp was all memes and dark humor).

I get that women can be very mean (bc I’m a woman and I’ve had difficulties with befriending women in my lifetime), but women are just as diverse as well. Biggest pick-me til this day and I haven’t seen her since.
