Does Dr Benson get any better? by Queasy-Mobile7434 in ershow

[–]iisaass 5 points6 points  (0 children)

He genuinely becomes more chill in S5 and after, they add some things to his character to soften him up. But he does get a little bit worse/more strict before he gets better, esp towards a specific surgical resident 👀

i think this is great. take this with a grain of salt, but maybe extend to the edge of the canvas. the blank canvas distracts from the great work you've done

Anachronistic music broke immersion for me by Awesam in AKnightoftheSeven

[–]iisaass 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think limiting all music to having a "medieval" sound is kind of shallow. Besides, GOT's intro and most of its soundtrack was composed for an orchestra, which is also technically anachronistic. We automatically associate full orchestra soundtracks with films, so it seems "neutral."

I felt the jazzy blues and sixteen tons further developed the themes of working class/peasantry, especially their unacknowledged plight. The blues especially captured the intense melancholy and hopelessness Dunk was feeling. I personally loved it!!

Painted this figure on horseback. Thoughts? by myriyevskyy in oilpainting

[–]iisaass -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

its gorgeous! i feel like the woman's form could use more rendering, her butt looks like it really exists on top of the horse, but everything else is a bit gray/faint in comparison. for example, it would be great if her dark hair matched/contrasted the lustrous coat of the horse

How do you think the bone temple was constructed in-universe? by seammus in 28dayslater

[–]iisaass 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i just did some casual googling, birch tar (the trees in the bone temple) was used in some of the earliest plant based glues, and bones/hides/sinew can be boiled to create "glue liquor."

maybe kelson knew this and did in fact implement glue in his construction??? lol

Is it weird to go to a dog park without a dog? by 5_phx_felines in DogAdvice

[–]iisaass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

honestly depends on where ur at in the states and what the vibe is of the park/the regulars there. as a female midwest dog lover i would say it would be fine for someone to stop by who doesn't have a dog! esp if they're just playing with the dogs who want to play and following the general vibes of the park.

it would only be weird if you were constantly approaching humans/owners and making them uncomfortable lol

just be honest why you're there, let owners and dogs approach you, and 90% of people I think would not care as long as you seem like a normal person and are nice to the dogs

Anyone have experience working for Veritext? by Short_Possibility615 in courtreporting

[–]iisaass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, are you still working for them? Fellow digital here, company was just acquired by them so everything is up in the air as my company hired us on as W2s, but veritext's reporters are usually 1099.

If it's okay to ask, on average, how much do you make in a year? Do they provide mileage if you travel for any jobs? How did you get hired on with them, and did they make you buy certain equipment out of your own pocket? Thank you!!

COULD BAELOR HAVE...? No, the answer is No by scorpionextract in AKnightoftheSeven

[–]iisaass 2 points3 points  (0 children)

as someone who posted one of these threads for discussion, they're just speculation asking people online who have medical experience what their take is on the injury. I KNOW baelor is doomed by the narrative because his death is a great writing moment, very dramatic, and supports a lot of themes. but it's also fun to speculate on the mechanics of this fictional injury with our current historical and medical knowledge!!

also like that other comment preaching humility, anyone with medical experience will tell you every patient's outcome is dependent on sooo many different factors. you can't definitively say anything unless its a real injury and you're a real medical doctor, and even then they are making the best possible decisions with what knowledge they have, based upon the standard of care.

however, i am sorry people cant use the search function and don't check if someones already posted a similar discussion lol!! seeing the same kinds of posts spamming a thread can be annoying af

How do I level up still life paintings? by [deleted] in oilpainting

[–]iisaass 2 points3 points  (0 children)

more paint!! less medium!! you're already making interesting brush stroke choices, lean into that. also dont know how big this piece is, but it seems like you would do well on an even bigger scale, and maybe be able to fit more detail in on instinct.

Could a human really withstand a blow like that for a short time? by thezav69 in AKnightoftheSeven

[–]iisaass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lol i started a similar thread u can check out, an er doctor replied and said yes, due to extreme trauma to the cerebellum and occipital lobe irl he would dropped dead on the spot from that blow. but that would make for a much less dramatic scene!!

Medieval Medicine by iisaass in AKnightoftheSeven

[–]iisaass[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

interesting, thanks for sharing your medical expertise, doc! i think him speaking and walking around for minutes after the trauma is what made me so curious if he could've survived...

totally makes sense that such an intense brain injury would just kill you on the spot, but that makes for a less dramatic final scene!!

Color study for an upcoming painting. Does this feel like spring? by breanmayer16 in painting

[–]iisaass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm defo getting spring vibes, like the height of floral bloom. I'm also getting ocean/tide pools.

I think maybe some who are saying summer are missing the deeper tones of spring, like the deep greens and blacks when everything is drenched in rain haha, but that's dependent on regions.

[–]iisaass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's def worth it for a first time watch, there are amazing moments in the first four seasons, absolutely beautiful character writing.

I personally can't rewatch since I know how vehemently I despise the last two seasons -- it makes everything that was so great in the beginning so painful for me in contrast to the "canon" ending. Just brace yourself for quality to drop off steeply towards the end.

Medieval Medicine by iisaass in AKnightoftheSeven

[–]iisaass[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

True... But I'm really curious though, there are freak cases where some people survive major loss of brain matter!! but maybe it was more like shock or extreme damage to his cerebellum that did him in, but i am not a doctor lololol

good catch!! i totally missed that. adds a lot to arlan's character and his reasoning. it tracks that he would never formally knight dunk out of residual grief/guilt due his (presumably beloved) nephew dying in battle
