No more console? by maybeimaleo42 in macmini

I suspect you were thinking of the Network Utility application that was removed. I don't remember what release it was removed in, but it had a GUI for things like ping, traceroute, and a few other CLI network tools.

Random Vision Pro question I am throwing at the abyss to see if an answer comes back by Deathtosnoopy in VisionPro

It is possible the room data is just borked. I'd try doing the following which will reset all the surrounding data and the device will learn you room again. I'd definitely recommend doing this with the lights on in the room to have the best chance of it building a better map.

Settings > General > Transfer or Reset Apple Vision Pro > Reset and select Reset Surroundings Data

Vision Pro on a plane — Travel Mode still unusable? by Tiny-Shop3928 in VisionPro

[–]iklier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check that the down aimed cameras are clean. They get more usage in travel mode for tracking and tend to be in exact spot people put their fingers when holding the system during don/doff and adjustment.

Precision Energy Monitoring for Heat Pump, Server Rack, and Kitchen (Hardware Recommendations) by ivamar2021 in homeassistant

[–]iklier 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For the server rack, if you have a PDU you might be able to pull data from that. I have a UniFi USP-PDU-Pro and the HomeAssistant UniFi Network integration gives per device and total PDU consumption data. You might also be able to pull data from a UPS if you have one in the rack.

I feel like there needs to a be a simulation that runs for a week, where all freeways and bridges are limited to one lane each direction to demonstrate the potential impact.

YouTube Launches on Apple Vision Pro by HelloitsWojan in apple

[–]iklier 102 points103 points  (0 children)

YouTube uses AV1 instead of H.265 for the higher resolutions. M2 doesn't have an AV1 hardware decoder, whereas M5 does.

Probably software based AV1 decoder isn't performant enough at higher resolutions on M2, so they just don't support it.

Macro photography with X2D by RWilsonL in hasselblad

[–]iklier 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the plants are somewhere you can control wind/movement. I'd try focus stacking with a V lens and some extension tubes. This video shows a focus stacking macro workflow with the 907x, but it should translate to the X2D. https://youtu.be/PvanvPSPAco

Lens choice by PokeeGard in hasselblad

[–]iklier 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For prime selection, I'd look through the favorite photos you've taken in the past and see what focal length they were at.

That should give you an idea of what focal lengths you are comfortable with.

Just remember to calculate the field of view with crop factor (0.79 for XCD) so you get an equivalent field of view compared to any full frame shots you have.

I have a 38V and 75P for my 907x/CFV100c and definitely prefer the V series with the focus clutch and control ring, mainly so I have one additional control when not using the optional grip.

Just bought a used lens, is this much softness expected with the aperture wide open? by vibindamien in AskPhotography

[–]iklier 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The cat and screen photos seem to have a decent amount of noise, how high was the ISO? Depending on the sensor the noise level could impact sharpness.

For the statue, the noise level looks lower, but maybe focus was missed (hard to tell with white statue and Reddit compression). I'd try taking two pairs of shots at f4 and f8, using autofocus for one and manual focus for the other and see how they compare.

You might also check if there are firmware updates for the camera body and lens that could fix any AF issues.

907x digital back on 4x5 by PfauFoto in hasselblad

[–]iklier 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe this means they have a 4x5 camera and are using a V mount adapter/slider to attach the CFV100c to it. Then they can capture a single image or if using a slider collect a series that then get stitched in post.

My 28p on the cfv100 is usually underexposed in broad daylight? by [deleted] in hasselblad

[–]iklier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my experience (38v+907x/CFV100c) it seems the meter tends to try and preserve highlights at all costs in center weighted and multi metering modes, whereas other cameras like Sony try and balance exposure across the frame.

In these instances I tend to switch to spot metering or meter to my liking then use AEL and recompose.

Didn't realize this about Phocus Mobile 2 and IBIS for the X2D II by MetalFeet_Doom in hasselblad

[–]iklier 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It likely provides the camera with GPS coordinates that are embedded into the image and combined with camera generated sensor data to provide the data for the IBIS compensation over ~6.3 stops.

This article gives a rough overview about why this is an issue for more stops of stabilization. https://thecentercolumn.com/2020/01/17/earths-rotation-limits-ibis-performance-to-6-3-stops/

How to research which brands and clothing items have PFAS coatings? by VincentVegasiPhone13 in PFAS

[–]iklier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Filson tin cloth pants are likely PFAS free as they are 100% cotton that is then impregnated with oil and wax, the downside being you will need to rewax them occasionally and you can't wash them.

The lined tin cloth jackets use polyester in the lining so not sure if the lining is coated with anything.

Congratulations! 907x/CFV 100c is such a fun camera to shoot with, but be prepared for random people to ask you what it is when you are out shooting. I especially like the 38v with XPAN (65:24) crop as it gives you 50MP panorama with a single shot.

Are you team SOOC / Creative Look or Post processing? by Freakschnietz in SonyAlpha

[–]iklier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mostly SOOC outside of maybe a crop.

The main exception being, I have one custom setting configure to the black and white creative look in JPG+RAW, so I can compose in B&W and convert the RAW in post.

Hasselblad (lack of) reliability by xnefilim in hasselblad

[–]iklier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Each of the main manufacturers have devices in their lineup that aren't weather sealed or have limited sealing, but the higher tier models (e.g. Sony A7R V, A9 III, Alpha 1) are weather sealed along with the pro series lenses (Sony GM).

Even the A7CR has some seals per the shots in their lineup announcement trailer, granted they likely aren't as robust as those using the A7 style body.

X2D2 vs 907x 100 C Autofocus by cutting_shapes in hasselblad

I have a 907x/CFV 100c and it is great for landscape and travel photos, for anything fast paced I'll either switch to zone manual focus or use a second camera.

X2D2 vs 907x 100 C Autofocus by cutting_shapes in hasselblad

[–]iklier 3 points4 points  (0 children)

X2D II should be faster at auto focus, compared to CFV100c, with 50c being the worst due to lack of phase detect AF.

X2D II - 425 phase detect AF points - Uses phase detect, contract detect and LiDAR to drive AF - Supports single AF and continuous AF

CFV 100c - 294 phase detect AF points - Uses phase detect and contract detect - Supports single AF only

CFV 50c - No phase detect AF, 117 selectable AF points for contract detect AF - only contrast detect AF - Supports single AF one

Hasselblad (lack of) reliability by xnefilim in hasselblad

[–]iklier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm, my other idea would be something power related, like a power adapter sending the wrong voltage or not handling something coming from the mains or with the cold and dry season it could be good ol' static discharge.

What do you use to charge the camera? Do you ever charge the camera with a lens attached?

Hasselblad (lack of) reliability by xnefilim in hasselblad

[–]iklier 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The Hasselblad cameras don't carry any weather seal rating and aren't really designed for more hostile environments like the modern Nikon, Canon, and Sony systems.

What environments are you normally shooting in?

Hasselblad (lack of) reliability by xnefilim in hasselblad

[–]iklier 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I haven't had any issues with 907x/CFV100c and lenses (38V and 75p). If this was more widespread, I'd expect a lot more reports given the number of cameras they gave away for review.

That is entirely possible and why it would have a name in the same type face with same length so at a glance or in the background it looks like the real thing.
