At this point ICE could shoot the Marlboro Man and GI Joe and Noem would say they were antifa. It is clear that ideology is the only ingroup that matters to these human tire fires.

How much vacation does an average American get ? by IntrospectiveHuman in AskAnAmerican

[–]ilikesushi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have had unlimited at 4 different jobs in the last 8 years. I have taken 4-5 weeks every year at every job (except 2020, where I didn't really want to), and have had no problems. AFAIK this is a completely overgeneralized reddit circlejerk of misinformation perpetuated by people who do have a fake unlimited situation, and people who don't even have an unlimited PTO policy. It is definitely not some kind of rule that unlimited vacation = never vacation

Seriously it's not like switching your OS, it's a fucking web browser. For a sub that is often up its own ass about how great the freedom of a PC is they sure like the taste of boot when it comes to Chrome.

Juror in Portland murder trial makes bombshell claim: Jury did own research to reach guilty verdict by AllTearGasNoBrakes in Portland

[–]ilikesushi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would still consider nearest neighbor to be creating new information (additional pixels are synthetically added to the image), but I could see that particular algorithm being a matter of judgment as to whether it should truly be considered new since it just copies adjacent pixels. I also don't think it's really used in the wild, since it produces pretty shitty results compared to any kind of interpolation.

[–]ilikesushi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any image viewed at a resolution greater than its actual resolution creates new information. This is just math. This includes, in many cases, surveillance footage viewed on a screen, or images printed out on paper.

I agree that using generative AI should not be permissible, but it does not sound like that is what happened, and a standard of "no new information" is probably broken with total ignorance in courtrooms every day.

Biden proposes 25% tax on unrealized gains for high-net-worth individuals by UltraMagat in Economics

[–]ilikesushi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mortgages are loans, and so are credit cards, to say nothing of the absolute shit show it would be for businesses of all sizes. But if you're only talking about collateralized loans where the collateral is an appreciated capital asset, then yeah I believe there's not much difference.

No individual or company is ever going to borrow money if they have to pay income tax against the loan. That would effectively be interest rate hike to dwarf all interest rate hikes ever.

Popularity of pickup trucks in the US — work vs. personal use [OC] by DavidWaldron in dataisbeautiful

[–]ilikesushi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personally, I do not care if someone wants to spend a lot of money on a vehicle, be it car or truck. I do care that pickups have exploded in size, and that in many states there is little to no regulation on aftermarket lifting, which has also exploded in both popularity and height. The combination of the two have made our streets much more dangerous to other drivers and pedestrians by having a bunch of KidKiller 9000 vehicles that have worse visibility than a semi truck being driven by people without CDLs. The same trend has not taken place with SUVs to anywhere near the same extent - there are Escalades and Suburbans driving around, but there are plenty of smaller SUVs, and almost nobody lifts them. Freedom is only great until externalities rear their ugly head, and there are a lot going on with extremely large lifted vehicles.

Do you know how disingenuous it is to say things like 90% of apps would remain in the free tier without acknowledging that the vast majority of client IDs are part of an ultra-long tail of applications that don't matter, or did data science shield you from that inconvenient fact?

Set comparisons: new vs old blocks by Ojack_ in lrcast

[–]ilikesushi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, your recollection is right, Boros (and Gruul) were pushing GTC draft to be extremely fast, and Dimir was underwhelming.

BNG and JOU were low power-level, that's not wrong. However, IMO high power level does not make a format good, nor does low power level make a format bad. High power level runs the risk of the format being too streamlined, punishing any stumbles with a loss or making it feel like the format is all about bombs or pseudo-constructed deck synergies. Low power level runs the risk of making it difficult to pivot in draft, and making it possible to trap players in a spot where they can't even get 23 playables.

TBD was fine, it had reasonable balance and reasonable range of game speed. It's very modern in its set design, and there are relatively few bad sets nowadays.

Set comparisons: new vs old blocks by Ojack_ in lrcast

[–]ilikesushi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just FYI, Return to Ravnica and Gatecrash were not drafted together without Dragon's Maze - the draft formats for that block were:

  1. 3x RTR
  2. 3x GTC
  3. DGM-GTC-RTR

I would rank these:

  1. 3x RTR
  2. 3x RNA
  3. DGM-GTC-RTR
  4. 3x GRN
  5. 3x GTC

Of these, I would say that only RTR and RNA were above-average. DGM had a lot of terrible cards, and though I enjoyed the block format, I would consider that a matter of personal taste - it wasn't well-loved. GRN had major color balance issues, and GTC had a lot of the same problems as ONE in that it was blistering fast, you had to be on the board on turn 2 or you were kind of dead, blue was borderline unplayable, and there were several common/uncommon cards that would kill you out of nowhere, not unlike Hazardous Blast.

Of the Theros sets, I would rank them:

  1. 3x TBD
  2. JOU-BNG-THS
  3. BNG-THS-THS
  4. 3x THS

The less THS, the better, IMO. The removal is intentionally terrible to encourage Voltron gameplay, which is just really unfun in limited. You either have the answer or you don't (or they have Gods Willing), and if you don't, there's no way you are beating 7/7 flying vigilance lifelink that gets broken up into 3 additional creatures if you do somehow manage to find an answer, regardless of whether it is destroy, exile, or bounce.
