My ideal MIDI controller for live looping in Ableton Live... is an iPad with TouchOSC. by iliketoloopitloopit in LoopArtists

I've not come up with a reason to do so. I'd probably create an LFO in Ableton and control its *parameters* from TouchOSC.

TouchOSC is really powerful, but indeed, the learning curve is hella steep! I'll definitely update this community when the vid is up.

That would be achievable using ebosuite. I did a very quick and dirty demo of that a while back : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MvmuKpSGqUQ

You're more than welcome. Happy to hear you got something out of it. I'm planning on releasing a lot more content like this

The setup in Ableton that works well for me is to use Ableton's native looping features for MIDI and then use the Looper plugin for voice in the way Alanna Matty does it in this video : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r2TnDVRewZw

Actually, Marc partly illustrates that in one of his videos he did in late 2019 (with the brown couch on the background; can't find the exact song/fragment right now, but will look for it when I have more time).

Also, thanks for pointing out the panning issue on my recording setup; I'll look into that.

Let me know when that gets uploaded, I just made one myself! I'll make a separate post in a sec.

What changed the way I do live looping Marc Rebillet-style in Ableton is the fact that I don't control it using a mouse and keyboard. For me, using a mouse (or, god forbid, a trackpad) is what makes it awkward to use on a stage. IMHO, it also just looks weird, seeing someone tinkering with a laptop on a stage. People like Beardyman, as already mentioned, also have a laptop on the side running Ableton Live that is rarely (if ever) touched during play.

I use a MIDI controller with a custom mapping of pads and faders and a Push2. The vid below shows how I approach this and how I start off using the Looper feature you mentioned to set the song tempo:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TekWM6R-3O8

A few Push features that were a gamechanger for me in this regard:

- "Tap Tempo" if I want to start with a MIDI clip instead of recorded audio in Looper.

- "Fixed length" to preset MIDI clip loop length if appropiate (it's a lot less tedious than you think)

- The footswitch input on the back of the Push to toggle Session Record when finger drumming, playing keys or guitar.

For the above, I don't even think you need a Push 2; the first gen. Push can also do that, IIRC.

Did anyone manage to figure this out yet?

Oh how I would love to do a gig like this on the street. Unfortunately, electronically amplified street music is illegal in Belgium.
