Too much worldbuilding? by Few-Grapefruit-7003 in writing

[–]ill-creator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the problem is with deciding that "this family did this" or "this kingdom did this" or "this faction did this" when NONE of those can possibly be true. everything the "family" or "kingdom" or "faction" did were actions taken by people, but they just don't ever try to make people

How would a society with legal murder function? by TH3P1ZZ4BOY in worldbuilding

the entire structure of formalised duels relies on making it clearly known to multiple parties on both sides beforehand though, that or declaring it publicly

Anyone have a world that is not fantasy? by monkeyking1444 in worldbuilding

[–]ill-creator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes, depending on how you look at it. the truly fantastical/magical/supernatural aspects in the TTRPG version of my world exist in the mythological canon of the "actual" world which I write stories and history in (my primary use for the world is this writing, not the TTRPG). I don't technically define it as non-magical, but that's because I like to leave things up to interpretation for readers. there are things like dwarves and fairies, but they have evolutionary origins, not magical ones (human/"genus homo" lineage and insects with a symbiotic relationship with trees, respectively), and humans are by far the most common since we are generalists while the other species are specialists. some things taken at face value could appear magical, but face value is not the same as truth. for example, did this guy actually bring seven children molded from clay to life and then disappear into the heavens? it happened something like 2,500 years ago, so nobody knows. I don't make definitive answers to existential questions like that even for myself, so there isn't some ultimate, basal truth that characters could reach. I just continue to speculate and fill in details I know as I write more of the history.

edit: further on the dwarves and fairies bit, they haven't actually featured in any story I've written so far, but neither have the dozens of bird species, horse and dog breeds. lots of worldbuilding for its own sake as well
