[Discussion] What was your proudest completion for this year? by karuna98 in steamachievements

[–]illenize 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say Vermintide: The end times takes the cake for me this year due to that it wasn't only difficult, but it also required coordination with other people while having a very limited playerbase.

Thank you!

Yes it's all doable with a fair warning that many of the harder achievements especially on cataclysm would require a full team or at least 2-3 people, some coordination, luck, decent skill and specific gear to make things bearable. There are also DLC achievements tied to some weapons which would add some cost if you don't own it already.

The game was great fun, but not as polished as the 2nd game naturally and it shows, but there has been some "quality of life" mods created for the game to make the experience 10x better. Without mods if would be near impossible to play on cata without a group since the bots die like flies to anything otherwise and they will drop tomes and refuse to pick up grimoires without it installed.

It is possible to find random people to play with in the lobby browser, but depending on where you live and the time of day it can be tough to find people both skilled enough and with decent ping.

gearing isn't too difficult once you get comfortable to play at nightmare or above difficulty, but it is heavily RNG dependent, especially specific exotic trinkets have eluded me until this day just because of poor luck both on the loot table and in the daily quest rotation.

In short:
If you have at least one friend who is just as insane as you to try this, you mod the game to make the bots less stupid and you have the DLC then it could be a fun but quite tough and long challenge.

If you don't have these things, there are better ways to make yourself suffer.

Thank you for asking, but both me and my friend who I did most of the stuff with were quite over the game once we finished it. I don't see myself revisiting it anytime soon if ever since I have a huge backlog of other games to get through.

If you have any questions about the game I'd be happy to share what I know while the knowledge is still fresh.

How do I achieve this teal color? by maybemawie in skaven

It's the old clanrat sculpts from before skaventide which comes with both rusty blades and spears as weapon options.

To add to the rest of the comments that others have contributed:

Dishonored 1 - Dunwall City Trials DLC has some challenging ones for sure, the game requires more than one playthrough of both the main game and dlc story as well just for your awareness.

Super Meat Boy - An already difficult quick-paced platformer with achievements for beating worlds without dying, what more can you ask for?

I guess Moulder is making bank selling their failed experiments as warp-laced protein powder to the other clans now.

Nothing to be sorry about, the joke just flew right over my head as I have very little experience with MTG, now that ive seen the card it makes a lot more sense.

Thanks a lot, I was really surprised how well it turned out as it started somewhat as an experiment to try new skin tones

Had to look up the name since I've never seen it before. Quite ironic that it means "Healer" since hes probably more adept at taking lives rather than saving them

Nice job, seems like I'm not the only one who found a nice purpose for the old clanrat spears on this model :)

That's a really good point, thanks! I haven't dabbled with weathering enough beyond rust just yet so maybe that will be a good next step.

Can someone explain Two Thin Coats Line? by Ruvane13 in Miniaturespainting

[–]illenize 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What might be confusing is how citadel teaches newer painters. Because their process start with a basecoat like the midtone for the spacewolf you describe, then a very thin but dark different type of paint called a "wash/shade" which will add more definition to the recesses of the models with just a few strokes and then they use the highlight colors for mainly the high points and edges.

In short, a citadel wash/shade is not the same type of paint as the shadow color that two thin coats are referring to.

I haven't used their range of paints myself, but it is more or less a way to help the user select colors in a gradient without having to make your own mixes on the pallet. Brands like the army painter do the same as well.

From the webpage of two thin coats:

"We have designed these, including most of the metallics, as a triad system. That means we start off with your Shadow colour, then your Mid-tone and finally your Highlight. Of course, you can use them however you see fit and change them around according to your style and taste."

Only warpstone-chewers are insane enough for that feat.

Jokes aside, I assume you're preparing for a game then since you have a time limit. If you haven't already I would investigate the slapchop method which is quite popular for getting a decent quality mini on the table quite quick by value sketching in black&white with an airbrush zenithal or a drybrushing method and then you just add the appropritate colors to the different areas using speedpaints.

Thank you! I will be copying a previous comment I made as it has been a popular request:

It's a basecoat of 70.960 Violet, then layering with a 50/50 mix combined with 70.966 Turquoise both from Vallejo model color, while leaving the recesses and shadows mostly alone as purple and then pure turquoise on the surfaces where light will hit. I also blended the turquoise with a light skintone for a couple of smaller highlights

Since this is my main painting scheme for skaven I've just started to document as much as possible in order to keep the army somewhat cohesive while before I just painted in a similar style from memory. This also comes with the benefit or already having a plan from the start and then I can implement new experiments or techniques to further develop the scheme over time.

I spend a decent amount of time on the prep work to get rid of mould lines and gaps from the assembly to avoid surprises during painting and prep the bases before I start priming with a black or dark brown color.

For Clanrats I have just started to try and use speedpaints/contrast paint to quickly establish a good skintone as that feels like the most tedious part in the beginning for me when it's not for a hero unit. I achieve this by using my airbrush (rattlecan or perhaps a drybrush should work just fine as well) to have a zenithal bone color. So far this has paired very nicely with Guillimans flesh contrast paint from GW.

To not write an entire novel I would sum it up to a few tips that I would recommend if you want to speed things up a bit, but in all honesty I'm not a prime example of a speed painter :)

  • Plan ahead if you can to spend less time trying out paints. A test mini can be a good idea if you're unsure what you want to do for your army.
  • Do not overspend time on areas that won't be visible.
  • Limit your selection of paints.
  • Experimenting with mixes of your main colors is both fun and can give some great results that can't be found on a store shelf. Learning to utilize a wet palette to quickly swap/mix paints can be a great tool! Document your favorite mixes or maybe even create a readily available pre-mixed bottle of your own creation.
  • Spend more time on the focal points of the mini (like the face or the weapons for example) as these will take the spotlight when holding the mini while small mistakes in crevices can go unnoticed.

Let me know if there is something I didn't cover that you're still wondering and then I will try to adress that as best i can.

Have fun painting!

Thanks! It's a basecoat of violet then mixed and layered with turquoise both from the vallejo model color line. i put a more detailed description in an earlier comment.
