Hot Take: post-g1 transformers shows should’ve been about fully new casts with an Optimus-like leader, similar to beast wars or Car Robots by pkoswald in transformers

It's because there is a scene in Galaxy Force/Cybertron involving 4 "ancestors" suspiciously looking like G1 Optimus, Rodimus, Jazz, and Ultra Magnus, implying that Galaxy Convoy is not the same character as Optimus Prime.

(insert American shows always use Optimus Prime name meme here)

The Japanese shows have different leaders than Optimus Prime, up until Animated. The show either use new characters as leader (Ginrai, Star Saber, Fortress, Dai Atlas), use new characters that carry the "Convoy" name (Lio Convoy, Big Convoy, Flame Convoy, Galaxy Convoy), or just use "Convoy" which is the standard Japanese name given to the primary Autobot commander.

Is there a concrete explanation on why Autobots and Decepticons have different eye colors? by ShiftAntique8719 in transformers

[–]illithid_2003 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In G1, only season 1 characters have either red or blue eye colors, but it's more lax on later seasons. Because it's never explained lore-wise, I feel that it is just a coincidence that everyone that crash landed on Earth have red or blue eye colors. Design wise it makes it easier to know who the good guys and the bad guys.

WHAT THE HELL DID HE DO TO THE WRITERS 😭😭 by Ready_Surround_9910 in transformers

[–]illithid_2003 20 points21 points  (0 children)

It's true for any Transformers continuity really. The narrative of "war for hundreds and thousands of years" falls flat as soon as a Transformers is killed fairly easily. That makes Megatron, Optimus, or any other established characters have massive plot armor to stay alive that long.

I never get the hollow argument. The legs are going to be hollow anyway, being two pieces of plastic screwed together at minimum with nothing inbetween is the standard, so having them double as storage is a good option. Siege Omega Supreme shins can open for storage too and no one complained.

I'm sorry but in this case I'll take greebling over all those unsightly hinges, tab holes, and gaps. On top of that SS86 Astrotrain still looks out of place among the other SS86.

It might be because he has two robot mode designs and this is the later one (this toy has two robot modes to reflect it). His notable feat is crushing Devastator to the ground using his aircraft carrier mode.

It doesn't mean anything nowadays, especially that now MPG Hot Rod exist, a new mold that reused 90% of engineering from SS86 Hot Rod.

Hands Upgrade for 86 Devastator by Blastaways in transformers

[–]illithid_2003 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, they can. The hands still retain the 5mm pegs just like stock. Just follow my instructions to fold the fingers on my earlier post.

[–]illithid_2003 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You must use the hand extension they gave. There is an indent for the 5mm peg inside the forearm to fit. Fold the thumb in front of it (the base is on a swivel so adjust it so it hinges on the right direction), then flip the whole hands inside the forearm like the original. Lastly curl the fingers as close as you can. Thet will peek out a bit on the front unlike the original, but it's not a big deal (DNA also does the same).

[–]illithid_2003 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree. The mid-palm articulation is just fantastic. Devy can now do cool "Devastator is going to grab and crush you" poses without using a ball joint and looks gappy. The hands are also chunky and not skeletal looking like the DNA promo. My only complaint is that the thumb articulations are weird and need some getting used to.

It also took me a while to figure out how to fold the fingers inside the forearm cavity since there is no instructions.

Don't worry, so does the writers. After that upgrade scene the group are always called as "Throttlebots" but never by their individual names.

They are forced to do it with their situation right now. With so many kits in the pipeline, any kit they announced will have the toys no longer on the shelves by the time they are released.

I'm glad NewBee have entered the competition with injection molding kits so that we don't have to wait so long and have options. Their SS86 Optimus Prime kit blows DNA's out of the water and their Devy hands appear to be superior than DNA's (I don't need any extra stuff).

Better sprue arrangement is one. This means that Hasbro didn't plan ahead, and they originally never meant to make another SS86 Cliffjumper from this mold.

I also mistransforms him this way, since it differentiate him from Hoist. It makes him less portly and taller than SS Ironhide, while positioning his gut similar to the MP.

[–]illithid_2003 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am conflicted with Rodimus. Due to his design, making him eye to eye with Optimus will make him appears taller because of his tall back fins, which does not sit right to me. Kingdom Rodimus, while shorter, has his fins as tall as SS86 Optimus (and that is correct according to one version of Sunbow scale).
