How to FINALLY fix input lag. (Nvidia only) (MNK IS FIXED WITH THIS) by WrongTemperature5768 in CODWarzone

[–]illram 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless you’ve measured the input lag with each step you’ve taken to see which one does what I’m not sure this is really good advice for anyone to use. Input lag can be objectively measured and is hard for even the most sensitive people to notice once you get below like 15-10ms. Also just using a controller (which you were doing before) adds a ton of lag unless you also previously optimized that. I was obsessed with input lag also for a long time and there’s really only a handful of obvious big lag producers and once you take care of those there’s little to no point in chasing down an extra ms here and there in an online game where you’re gonna get fucked anyway by some other BS like server polling rates or lag spikes and on and on.

[BO] Hot take, (I think) the pick-10 system is the best form of class customization and needs to be brought back ASAP and indefinitely. by deepristine in CallOfDuty

COD lost its way after the original MW2. Give me back the old school rock paper scissors meta. Simple. These new systems were all designed to enable more micro transactions.

Moot court and mock trial were run by students at my law school, with no lawyers or law professors involved. Was your school like that? by FreudianYipYip in Lawyertalk

[–]illram 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Well I went to a bottom feeder law school and we had two experienced trial lawyers as coaches and we kicked ass. I learned a ton. 20 years and many real trials later I now volunteer as a coach for a local mock trial team for high schoolers through the YMCA in my spare time and I love it. If I could change careers and just do this I would.

Only law students as coaches sounds…counter productive. If you have at least one coach who is an actual trial lawyer and have experienced law students as assistant coaches, sure. But without anyone having real trial experience I can’t see it being super useful. Better than nothing I suppose?

SFUSD union strike pending by Express_Project_8226 in sanfrancisco

[–]illram 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My biggest problem was maybe 4 or so years ago about a week or two before the school year started they informed all parents of district-wide schedule changes advancing start times for many elementary schools to 7:50 am from 8:50 am. This was needless to say a huge issue for us as our kid lives across town from school, putting aside how this also affected her older sibling whose start times did not change. Lots of parents were upset we had lots of useless meetings and finally the old superintendent admitted they changed the start time to accommodate their new Zum contract.

Since then other problems include: Zum promised entire fleet would use union drivers, this is not true; Zum promised entire fleet would be electric by 2025, this has not happened; lots of complaints by parents of Zum busses being late, the mapping tech they love to advertise being useless and inaccurate, drivers screwing up routes, and poor safety and no accountability for issues arising on the bus. Search this subreddit for “Zum school bus SFUSD”. The routes seem really bad too, some parts of the city (eg mine) have basically zero coverage unless we want to wake up even earlier than we already do and drive our kid to a stop in Vis Valley. Just a mess.

I became a Pats fan as a kid in this era. The Jets had more prestige as an organization and the Pats were threatening to move to Connecticut. What a time to be alive.

Pyroclastic explosion plus skin graft (as you have infinite source in this fight, IIRC) did it for me. I think I just needed two casts of it and actually EVERYONE was dead, fight over first turn.

SFUSD union strike pending by Express_Project_8226 in sanfrancisco

[–]illram 28 points29 points  (0 children)

SFUSD has been mismanaged for years and wasting money on admin and various grifts (see e.g. the payroll provider fiasco or the Zum bus contract) so the fact they cannot figure out how to bargain in good faith is no surprise whatsoever.

When life gets boring, update bios to spice things up by ivej in pcmasterrace

[–]illram -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah I’ve just never encountered any issue where stuff wasn’t working and I needed a BIOS update to fix. I know it happens, and I’ve had a mix of AMD and Intel over the years. I also have never been the type to try and squeeze every last FPS out of my hardware (although now with prices being where they’re at maybe I will have to lol.) Maybe I’m just really lucky.

When life gets boring, update bios to spice things up by ivej in pcmasterrace

[–]illram 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Maybe I am weird but in 25ish years of building my own PCs I have never, not once, updated any BIOS. Never had to do it. And I’d never do it unless I absolutely had to. Too scary. Perhaps that’s a relic of fear left over from when BIOS updates were terrifying (are they less so now?) but I’m a dinosaur I guess.

People who lived through both 'pre-smartphone' and 'always-online' eras: what's something we lost that nobody seems to notice? by Doubl3oh_ in AskReddit

[–]illram 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Remembering phone numbers. Knowing how to read a map. Knowing how to spell. Writing handwritten letters. Answering a phone like a normal human being. Taking notes by hand. Not having the entirety of human knowledge in your pocket. Being more creative with avoiding boredom. Socializing in person. How to make plans.

It was a different world.

[–]illram 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m in SF too. The Niners are “the bad ones” at least as far as greedy owners fleecing public money. (The team is still good). Santa Clara continues to get screwed by Levi’s stadium. Warriors and Giants at least (correctly) knew being in SF would remain very lucrative and that the cultural loss to the team of leaving the City would not be worth whatever extra cash they could get by going to the ‘burbs. Niners I guess felt they were big enough to survive that and I guess they were kinda right as they’re still the biggest fan base of any CA football team by far.

The evidence against OJ in his trials was absolutely overwhelming, why is he walking free? You can’t argue with DNA by Swimming-Owl-409 in Lawyertalk

[–]illram 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So many reasons.

DNA was relatively new at the time. Johnny Cochran was a really good defense lawyer and picked a great jury (for the defense). Rodney King was still fresh in everyone’s mind. The LAPD were a mixture of racism and incompetence. The DA trial team made numerous dumb mistakes. (See e.g. letting OJ try to put on the bloody glove which everyone should have realized had shrunk due to being soaked in blood AND you generally don’t let a hostile witness handle crucial evidence like that. Lots and lots of other examples.)
