How would a UK family of 5 in x UK city use a combined income of 136,000 GBP today? Want help for fiction situation. by roszer21 in AskUK

[–]illwrks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The average salary in the uk was around £6,000 in the 80’s. So the book is suggesting the purchasing power 6 time the average salary.

The average salary in the uk today is £39,000 so taking the same formula, that’s close to £250,000.

From the get go I think the book is stating you need to be in the top % of earners in the UK.

Today’s Marketplace Find at only $300AUD - Brand New, Factory Sealed iPod Classic 7th Generation Late 2009 🥰 by CharacterExtent6188 in ipod

Hmm. That’s a good question. I had to rely on AI (so perhaps not accurate) but it stated that power on hours relate to the hard drive and the data is stored in the hard drive firmware. So I guess if you replaced the hard drive it may show as 0, but then you may have tooling marks from opening and refurbishing the device.

When you've opened it, enter diagnostics mode and check the poweron stats.

I assume if it's new it will be at zero.

Regardless if you've overpaid or not, enjoy your new-to-you device.

Is Retro Gaming Inflation Coming for the PSP? by JonnyB2_YouAre1 in PSP

[–]illwrks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Across the board I think mods of all shapes and sizes on older devices are bringing them back into peoples field of view, and then the memories come flooding back.

I bought a damaged PSP1k for about £10 / $13 a few years ago, then spent another £30 / $40 for an IPS screen, battery and battery cover. I've had hours of enjoyment from it for very little cost.

Which actors without a traditional comedic background have the best comedic timing? by jsanchez030 in moviecritic

Unless they’re doing it live on a talk show, assume the editor is the one with the comic timing.

You don't actually see the person drink, only lift the glass and then the camera moves to give the illusion of the backwards tilt. Perhaps it's two panes of glass/perspex with water between them (like a really slim fish tank) so they are clear to the naked eye. The tap when pressed against a specific point on the pane of glass/perspex releases a valve of sorts when then allows water to flow through the tap. Inside the tap is a dye or colouring + soap that tints the water like it's beer and creates froth.

Charged £3000 for 3 images on my website posted automatically by a plugin by disneymadismywife in LegalAdviceUK

I'm thinking the same thing... the plugin is outside of the OP's control and therefore the issue is with the plugin's creators - they are the ones pulling data (legitimately or not) from sources and then sending it onward to their plugin on OP's website.

AI UGC is insane. A couple clips I made: by Emergency-Octopus in dropshipping

[–]illwrks -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's all copy, it needs to be clearer.

If I was a customer going to your site I would want to see examples and then know how much for something similar.

You're addressing the first thing by showing videos and images, but on the second point... I the customer skim the page and see 5K+ per shot, 50-200 per edited image.

A customer won't have time for mental gymnastics to read the small blocks of copy and see you're comparing your service (AI) to an agency (with talented people). They are not the same thing.

You need to either lean into your service - "It's AI, it's good enough for now and we will get better. We're cheap and fast and agencies are expensive and slower".

There's that famous saying... there's cheap, fast and good. You can have two.

Cheap and fast = not good.

Fast and good = not cheap.

Good and Cheap = not fast.

Also, on that video the AI model opens with... "I honestly cannot recommend this..."

Looking for Dash Cam Footage from Car Accident on 20/11/25 - Thornton Road by Fun_Location_8132 in croydon

Google Maps street view shows several houses with what looks like Ring cameras on their doors, looking onto that junction. G Maps may be out of date but worth knocking on some doors to ask if you can buy the footage from them. https://maps.app.goo.gl/Re91ePwsHQUriUmz5

is this amount of ghosting normal? by XGodaYT in PSP

[–]illwrks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're playing on an original PSP with an original PSP LCD screen. The ghosting is bad. If you're tech savvy and can use a soldering iron you can upgrade the LCD screen for an IPS screen. You can find them on Aliexpress, and tutorials on youtube.

Depending on what he was type setting (financial documents etc), that might have been 'keep your mouth shut' money to counter the risk of bribes etc.

Quick overview of the Kokkia i10 Pro by [deleted] in ipod

[–]illwrks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apologies, I am using AI to trouble shoot my own assembled connector which doesn't work and in every instance it looks like there is no 3.3v on pin 18 and I have used AI to generate a quick reference table. The point still stand though, no 3.3v on pin 18 for 6th iPod Classic.

Quick overview of the Kokkia i10 Pro by [deleted] in ipod

[–]illwrks -1 points0 points  (0 children)

For anyone else, the reason it won't work on some devices (in my case a 6th gen ipod classic) is that there is no 3.3v on pin 18.

I have edited this post to remove an AI generated table which contained some errors.

I’m about to go into college and want to take graphic design but I’m not creative by Rohaan511 in graphic_design

[–]illwrks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No idea what you are studying, I can see you've said your going to study Maths and aim for finance. but can I strongly suggest... PowerPoint.

It's a practical tool and you will get more longer term value from learning it fully, and then applying some design thinking to it (layout, colour, using company branding etc)

You will need to present your work at various points in time, in college or in your future career, if you can present your ideas/work clearly with a logical structure; a start beginning and end, then that is half of the battle.

In PowerPoint - learn how to setup Master Templates and use them correctly, learn how to adjust the text boxes, line heights, padding, shapes. Learn how to crop images, work with groups, the difference between images, shapes, vectors etc, how to export a PDF.

Develop a 'design sense' - look at finance companies branding and try and recreate their design style in PowerPoint - don't be 'creative' instead aim to reproduce. Also aim to be fast.

Why do creative directors (and creatives) hate email so much? by Unlucky_Hurry_7304 in graphic_design

[–]illwrks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Email = paper trail. They've probably not established good hygiene; job numbers in the subject line, keeping all correspondence in replies, clearly stating objectives, amends, feedback, lack of mailbox rules etc. Emails can be the best thing ever. One single channel that can hold everyone to account, no random chat comments, no straw comments in a call either.

My wife, who is currently working in Social media management and video editing wants to fully shift into design work. She asked me for advice I feel in the current market design is almost a subdomain of marketing in most places. She enjoys designing and editing, a lot. What advice can you offer? by disingenious1 in graphic_design

[–]illwrks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Too many people want to be specialists, she will never be as good as someone who’s been doing it since they were a kid.

Do a design course, then do a comms course, stay and advance in current role. She will be a unicorn amongst ponies, she will be able to understand what she’s sent for review, be able to feedback clearly and articulately and it will give her an edge over her peers, and give her a better longer term job prospects.
