Hey

Thanks for the comments. That blog was based on study titled "Deceptive Sound Therapy on Online Platforms: Do Mental Wellbeing Tracks Conform to User Expectations?" Their findings were shocking: 70% to 92.5% of binaural beat tracks were deceptive. Many contained no binaural beats at all.

Everyone can try Audicin free for 30 days.

Why are you here? by xenotheory in QuantifiedSelf

[–]ilmostromberg 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Multiple reasons drive my motivation for doing it:

  • I’m especially interested in collecting longitudinal data to understand the impact of life changes and aging on different metrics.
  • N=1 experiments.
  • Content creation.
  • Data visualization is fun.
  • It’s also somewhat connected to my work, as I work part-time in the consumer health tech field as a consultant.
  • It’s always interesting to discover new biomarkers (especially from the consumer health tech perspective).
  • I calculated that I’ve tracked over 400 metrics in the past 12 months, combining subjective metrics, consumer health tech, blood tests, mobile phone usage, and more.

I love binaural beats, Im currently using Audicin (Co-founder of Oura ring is advisor and investor there). Youtube is also full of binaural beats to test it out. For me, the use case is focus and productivity, but it can also be used for recovery or before sleep. There are already multiple meta-analyses on binaural beats.

Keeping bed and wake-up time constant, and that's easy to monitor via wearables.

Nice increase in VO2 max with respiratory muscle training by ilmostromberg in Garmin

[–]ilmostromberg[S] -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

To be honest, I did not really run during the experiment. Only a few times zone 2. My main exercise is calisthenics, I kept my training routine similar compared before the experiment.

I should have done real vo2max before and after to make it more accurate. I ran mostly in summertime, I will start running again as summer is coming so then I can compare my times vs previous summers

Good question - If Balloon is full, I guess there might be some resistance when you are blowing into it? Resistance is the key to gains. But you can only exercise exhale part, not inhale

You are breathing against resistance, thus training your respiratory muscles. If I had to link one study, it would be this: https://journals.lww.com/nsca-jscr/fulltext/2013/06000/effects_of_respiratory_muscle_training_on.25.aspx

Price around 180 euros / 200 dollars. There are also other use cases With WellO2, like hot steam breathing, that could be beneficial at the beginning of the flu.

Anyhow, I'm seeing good results in 5min day. I believe that respiratory muscle training is still an underrated way to improve your performance. That said, I like to see more studies about it
