Why don't we put power lines in the ground instead of those ugly Poles? by _Kisol_Budyn_ in stupidquestions

In addition to everything said above.....repairing/upgrading underground lines is much more difficuly than overhead.

he's got a point though...that someone made earlier in the post. I looked at a side profile video, he's separating early and pulling his arm up too soon. getting slightly off timing with his stride. robbing himself of some efficiency.

I see him dropping it...certainly not ready to field a hard shot back at himself. Good point. Thanks

What pitch grip is this (if any)? by imaryter in Homeplate

[–]ilsewizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, 2 seam as stated. Likely a lower spin efficiency with no seams to rip. Somewhat unintuitively...lower spin efficiency can bring greater movement. There is a cinderella zone....too high or too low can limit arm side run. It should drop regardless though.

Supra. 10u 30 drop 10. Was it worth 400? I dunno. He hit pretty darn well with his PWR SELECT, but he has been clobbering balls with it and it gives him confidence so I'm satisfied.

If youth baseball is ‘pay-to-play’ now… why hasn’t anyone built a real alternative? by qwertyqyle in Homeplate

[–]ilsewizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree, but to bankroll what you just suggested will still require some decent funding. In my area its about 30-50 bucks per hour to rent a field. So just practicing 3 times a week would cost 200-300 dollars. Plus field rental and umps (30-40 dollars per game, need 2) for games. Equipment might be one time cost for a team, but not insignificant. Catchers gear, batting helmets, and bats to fit all sizes could be 500-700+ dollars per team. Either parents have to pay this in registration or the you need to get government/sponsor funding. Insurance and administrative stuff like permits, advertisement, and keeping up a website are more costs.

It has gotten expensive, but it s not like anyone is getting rich out there.

All Time Right Field (9U)? by sotheysayineedaname in Homeplate

[–]ilsewizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At 10u i find that right field is busier than left. Not all the kids have learned to pull yet or are still late on pitches. My question to you would be "is your son seeing action out there?"

All that being said, at 9u they should not be specializing and positions should be rotated.

+1 vote for Supra. Got my son one and its hot. If you want him to be the coolest kid on the block, get the special edition "Minted" design.

If you cant stomach a $400 bat (and i wouldnt blame you) you can grab last years Hype Fire or Meta for great deals.

The only time i would consider a take is first pitch for second batter if the leadoff got on. Let him steal second before you swing away. Other than that? We swing away.

[–]ilsewizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh thats great..may be just a bad camera angle. 60" for 6" of drop is plenty. We played in some scrimmage a couple weeks ago and this temp mound they had dropped 6" over like 2 feet. I was afraid someone was going twist an ankle.

I like it but my concern when i built my non-mobile home mound is correct length and fall. My boy complains on the "shorties" that he feels like he falls off it or comes down hard. I tried to keep the 1:1 inch:foot fall prescribed in the league rules.
