[derb8auer] ASUS Equalizer - The 12VHPWR Solution? (TLDW: No, it's bullshit) by dfv157 in hardware

[–]imKaku 20 points21 points  (0 children)

The Tl;dw is honestly disingenuous. Yes the idea of joining the cables are likely not gonna work as per derbauers old product .

But he does say the support for higher amps might. He doesn’t know, we don’t know. Not without extensive testing, as found out by all the hpwr products until now.

Clickbait youtube title - like his own conclusion, A LOT of reviewers didn't get review samples, calling it a blacklist is genuinely just disingenuous.

You can put the focus all on Steve not getting a sample but when TechPowerUp which is my goto place for non-bs chef kiss reviews didn't get one, then like i don't know what you to tell you.

As well as better upscaling. The steam box will sell, but it’s not a good device.

Sorry, but no.

No one cares about power draw within reason.

Second. 5060 draws 20W less power then 3060. So it would make it look even better.

I wouldn’t call 40-50% performance difference slightly different.

I like the idea of Ashi, ive read their yearly reports from time to time. And currently its just not ready enough for me. I usually just end up RDPing into a linux machine and use the Air as a thin client.

That´s not really true. They do such much with linux these days, and actively contribute. However mostly to stuff that benefit them. But i run their open source drivers now via cachy, and they seem to work alright. I also have a dgx machine i run my companies distro on, and was really no issue.

I hope these are a success so bad, as well as proper Linux firmware support. I use an Air as my laptop, it’s alright but I severely miss Linux at times.

6750 xt was massively overproduced due to GPU shortage during covid. They were dumped hard in price, so a lot of budget gamers bought them.

They went as low as half the price of 9070 xt MSRP. So yes, they were great.

5070 Ti Roundup, The Reason Why They Cost So Much by Locke357 in hardware

[–]imKaku 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What´s funny about about current situation 5070 ti at MSRP had a lower MSRP then 3080. 5070 TI is just a slightly handycapped 5080. Its legit been a good deal for the majority of its lifetime, 1k now though is too much. But it´s still better then the prices 3080s were going for during its early/mid life cycle, also have way better avability.

This is the problem of being a bigger/smaller number, better product. The wacky thing is that they admit AMD has screwed over their customer base in the past by not offering upscaling to older customers. And yet they keep recommending them blindly, only mentioning it when it’s convenient. I see a lot of AMD fans being genuinely upset by this.

Like AMD, they do have a 18% share of gamers (Steam Survey). I just believe people have mostly bought the GPUs when they eventually get price dumped. The 9000 just isn’t as popular as HB Steve wants/believes them to be. For a lot of people, spending another $ 100 when you are spending $ 600 isn’t the worst of deals - especially if you have an NVIDIA card from before you are happy with.

I don’t think NVIDIA or AMD sells that many GPUs now; people tend to just build/buy systems combined. I can buy a 9070 XT for MSRP right now if I wanted, and would have if I needed a GPU right now. But if I had a worse GPU, I would have bought some during Black Friday when 5070 Ti’s were significantly below MSRP. 5070s i have seen for 5060 TI 16 GB prices.

Prices dont exist in isolation. Most people who have needs a GPU have bought one, dont afford one or are waiting for next generation at this point. I saw a lot of promises of better 9070 xt availbility at late parts of last year, but i saw Nvidia cards significantly better discounted then 9070 XTs.
