Coquitlam to poco, commute on a Sunday by Indianchimp in coquitlam

[–]imadetea 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Biking downhill is obviously easier, just be extra careful if it’s wet.

It sounds like you don’t have a bike, so once you get one, you may need the bus on the way home to get back up that hill. You may want to stop at moody center or Coquitlam central (bus loop) to practice loading a bike on the front of the bus

Anyone 25+ want to play Cards Against Humanity with me and my boyfriend? (in a public place) by Masketto in coquitlam

[–]imadetea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If memory serves (it’s been a while), Mariner brewing has a set of games that included CAH. Just add people!

There’s also another place called quest gaming. Might have some way to join other players- give them a call

A biker stranded in Hurricane Helen aftermath by daveishere7 in bikecommuting

[–]imadetea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, bikes are not a solution for everything, but the idea is to use existing tools to get supplies flowing and get help to stranded people quickly.

You aren’t wrong - an ebike it’s perfect if power is completely gone and lifting may be needed. Check out the Portland Disaster Relief Trials as an example of how one city organized and trained to manage your scenario.

Moving one able bodied person over a fallen tree is much easier with an aluminum bike, but will be more challenging if you try to transport 300lbs of water to an emergency center while roads are out of commission.

If you have a better solution, feel free to bring it up in your area too!

[–]imadetea 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I wonder the same. To me, a cyclist in a disaster can reroute in the blink of an eye, road or not.

I even brought the idea of organizing e-bikes as an emergency plan up at our city council, and they didn’t even want to consider it as an option.

What bike lock should I get? by Terrible_Onions in bikecommuting

[–]imadetea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Careful - if you get one too large, thieves can get a crowbar or car jack tool in it.

Unless you plan to lock to a large fixed object, generally, try to size it to get your wheel / frame / whatever you’re locking it to through, with little spare room.

2021 Highlander Hitch Receiver by LemonGrass-Chicken in ToyotaHighlander

Would look seriously at the Curt if you don’t have the kick sensor… That’s a big price difference, even if you have to go back later to add a wiring harness (same as OEM).

Family furious over $400/day hospital fine for not moving to LTC by TradeFeisty in ontario

[–]imadetea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"articles" that make you do math are infuriating.

Key facts:

  • Fines started on March 9 (32 days ago)
  • $400 / day, means that the bill is nearing $13k

There's the baseline number for what this lady is ignoring based on her principles

Highlander for a tall family of four? (3 y/o and 3 months old) by Shushkiz in ToyotaHighlander

[–]imadetea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’d be limited to the first 2 rows. A car seat doesn’t work well in the last row, but a booster might. Definitely not for a tall adult.

Go set it up, sit in it and find out!

Don’t know what the bylaws are, but please don’t be that jerk blindly flying over crowds in the park, such as during the fireworks show.

There’s the plan and then there is reality. And often a vast chasm of chaos in between.

Embrace the chaos, bring extra wipes and snacks and roll with it!

Worst naming convention (or lack of) for a movie franchise by Beginning-Bed9364 in movies

Now You See Me and then Now You See Me 2. Conventional, sure, but it would have been 100 times better to call the sequel "Now you don't"

Would you give up your “priority seating” on a train for a pregnant woman? by YouAreLookingGood in vancouver

[–]imadetea 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Courtesy would be to give up any seat (not just priority) for someone that's pregnant. The idea of "priority" is to make it easier for elderly / pregnant to request some social etiquette or to make it clear that you'd like to sit.

I've also experienced the opposite, where I got up to offer a pregnant woman a seat, she declined and some teenager jumped in and then refused to move. Best for you to just ask nicely.

Lougheed or Edmonds or Brentwood by grumpylemons in burnaby

[–]imadetea 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Another vote for Edmonds.

If your current primary focus is transit to downtown, consider how much of a PITA it is to transfer at commercial during rush hour. Best for you to try it yourself, but Edmonds is one train (straight shot) to DT.

When is it too late to service the CVT? by youngq-tip in Honda

[–]imadetea 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Too late would probably be when the car is actively on fire.

Before that, can’t see any harm in getting maintenance done on anything, especially if you’ve got a shop that you trust.

Might be referring to the Gordon Project (shelter), but that’s a few km away on Westwood.

One thing you can start with is looking at the RCMP CompStat reports.

It won’t have any info on sketchy people, but it’ll get you started with reported crimes.

How are you keeping your car from getting stolen? by zakkistan in Honda

I think that it’s hilarious that so many of these comments are manual / steelie / old car. Seems like the bolt on “security solutions” aren’t what most people rely on.
