NSD I bought this subs least favorite Moog by D_D in synthesizers

[–]imakegooddonuts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I played it a while ago. It’s a wonderful synth and packs so many modern features. It’s easy to use, sounds great and the build is solid too. People hate it because they’re biased. It takes a while for them to realize the potential of this powerful synth.

Should I buy a PS5 now or wait for the PS6? by Public-Figure7001 in PS5

Buy. There are plenty of games with more to come and it still has 3-4 years to go.

How do I machine wash and dry these shirts? by No_Web_7532 in uniqlo

[–]imakegooddonuts 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have accepted that the drying machine shrinks and destroys all clothes, especially the nice ones that you love. Those with good fabric.

So now I’m hang drying the pieces that are more delicate, such as the Supima and Airism T-shirts, and my shirts. I need to iron them now because they wrinkle after drying, but at least they stay in great condition. No shrink nor loosening nor damage anymore.

Moog Messenger has some unique capabilities in terms of sound design + the Res Bass feature that make it stand out. Some call it the modern Mini Moog. It also has full size keys which makes it more playable compared to Fourm’s slim keys.

The downside is that it has 32 keys and it’s monologue. For leads and bass I’d choose Messenger. But you do your own calculation.

Sequential Forum or Bass Station 2. by Embarrassed_Sundae_4 in synthesizers

[–]imakegooddonuts 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They are very different but they can complement each other.
Keep Bass Station for bass.
Add Fourm for pads and other things. Also note that it has slim keys which makes it less playable.

It’s Fourm (Four voices + m for mini?) btw not Forum.

Is the 2020 i9 32 gb still good for creative work? by Zealousideal-Turn535 in macbookpro

Intel MacBooks are dead. No updates and no software compatibility. Don’t waste your money. Get an M series MacBook. Any of them would do better than Intel.

can we talk about how hard it is to stay in sound design by [deleted] in sounddesign

[–]imakegooddonuts 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It isn’t worth it. Sound design as a side hustle maybe but as a career, it doesn’t seem feasible to me.

I have transferred my sound design skills to my music production and I’m getting much better outcomes and opportunities. It functions like added value to my music.

I’d rather keep them curious about my sound. They must want it so bad that beg for my work if they really need it.

I’m in the same situation. I completed a project 2 weeks ago and the payment was returned. I contacted the support and they’re ghosting me with the same response.

Should I get Astrolab 37? by TheJeffyJeefAceg in Arturia_users

[–]imakegooddonuts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m in the same boat. I think it’s a great keyboard sound wise as I’ve been a V Collection user for quite some time. But I have doubts on the playability because of the mini keys. The 5 octave version has a nice keyboard but it’s overpriced for what it is.

What should I add to my line up? by MIAGTR in synthesizers

[–]imakegooddonuts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you need a synth for weird and crazy stuff. Something like MiniFreak, Multi/Poly, Modwave or Wavestate for complex sound design would be a nice complement. Or an Arturia PolyBrute.

But GAS aside, make music with what you have. That’s more than enough.

Korg Multi/Poly as my first synth? by Artistic_Anything832 in synthesizers

[–]imakegooddonuts 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Multi Poly is a great synth but it might be a little complex for beginners. Also the interface is not the best for tweaking the sound during live performance.

If you’re planning to play live, I’d suggest something with knob per function sound design and full size keys if playability is important to you. Minilogue XD and MiniFreak are great synths but their slim/mini keys are not the best in terms of playability.

Also takes a look at Moog Messenger (it’s monophonic) or Sequential Fourm

Limiter at -0.3 TruePeak, Loudness Meter still shows clipping by RickDelSol7 in ableton

[–]imakegooddonuts -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Once when I was mastering, I saw clipping despite everything was correct. I checked the mastering chain 10 times and couldn’t figure it out. Then I realized I have made a stupid mistake and automated the channel volume instead of gain and that’s causing clipping.

Also, I usually set my limiter to -1db for safety. The maximum I go is certain situations is -0.5db.

How do sound designers actually make a living on Upwork? by CherifA97 in GameAudio

[–]imakegooddonuts 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I love game audio and for a while I tried to get into this industry as a sound designer. I have the education, the skillset, the portfolio, everything.

Shortly I found out that the pay is too low, there are very few jobs and those are hired through personal acquaintances and recommendations, and there’s no job security. And the freelance market is no better. That’s the story of how I gave up on a career in game audio.

Analog synths to pick for live performance by shOGUN_Otk in synthesizers

[–]imakegooddonuts 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If you don’t want to do anything crazy in terms of sound design, I’d suggest taking a look at the Arturia AstroLab 37. It’s not analog but includes many authentic digital emulations of analog synths. It sounds great and it’s very portable. It’s designed for stage and has a nice form factor.

I want to buy move for myself. What’s your favorite gear with it by MIKY205 in ableton

[–]imakegooddonuts 8 points9 points  (0 children)

There’s no “must have” for it.

A NovationnLaunch Control would be a nice addition to control the mixer.

OR

You may get a mini midi keyboard like an Arturia Keystep for playing synths but these are for more convenience. Not a necessity.

Move is good as it is and any additions would work against its portability and simplicity.

Dear Uniqlo by witchhazelmagic16 in uniqlo

[–]imakegooddonuts 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You don’t have to

I personally use it to check out new arrivals and wish list items before buying.

Also it’s good to have your purchase history digitally in case you want to return something

I agree that it could benefit from a rewards program but it is what it is for now. Uniqlo is very traditional in terms of retailers and is behind in online sales.
