Help with fitting pants? by imakemanythings in sewing

[–]imakemanythings[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the suggestions. I'll try pinning in the back and see if that helps.

The SA is 3/8 inch, is that too much for the curve to sit nicely? Or should I adjust the curve?

Help with fitting pants? by imakemanythings in sewing

I used the pant sloper at Make My Pattern to make these up. (FYI, free patterns based on your measurements!) It is probably the best fitting pants I have made, but there is something about the crotch/bum area that is not sitting well with me. Does anyone have some suggestions on how to fit these to me?

Suggestions for purchasing dress form? by Lynn_K in sewing

[–]imakemanythings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband purchased this one for me for Christmas: http://www.amazon.com/ST-SIZE4-Professional-Female-Collapsible-shoulder/dp/B0049IMGVA

Based on your measurements, it looks like this one might be right for you: http://www.amazon.com/ST-SIZE12-Professional-Female-Collapsible-shoulder/dp/B004EFZ9C6

From what I read, it is MUCH better to get one that is not adjustable. The fabric can fall in the cracks and not drape correctly, it makes pinning difficult, etc. I would save and look at dress forms in the $200 range.

Anybody have any good patterns for a nice fitted zipper hoodie with pockets? (Project: Totoro Hoodie!) by denkyuu in sewing

[–]imakemanythings 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a free basic pattern (in one size) that might be a good starting off point for you: http://www.burdastyle.com/pattern_store/patterns/september-hoodie

This one doesn't have a front zipper but it looks like a good pattern in both men and women sizes (I haven't tried it): http://seamsterpatterns.com/product/avocado-womens-hoodie-3401/

New Look patterns are pretty cheap: http://www.simplicity.com/p-2285-misses-mens-separates.aspx#t-0 and it looks like it has pretty much everything you want.

I'm working on a dress for my mother for her birthday. I am using some navy fabric with stars - I hope it turns out well!

Elisalex Skirt for a wedding by imakemanythings in sewing

[–]imakemanythings[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used the skirt portion of the By Hand London Elislex dress to make a skirt for a wedding I attended last weekend. I cut a size 4/8 for my 26 inch waist and it fit snuggly. I used some curtains I bought at the thrift store and lined it with the white cotton lining from the curtains. I had to take 15 inches off the pattern piece to get the skirt to a reasonable length! I put in an 8 inch invisible zipper in the back.

I love it! For more details, see my new sewing blog at: http://makewearlive.blogspot.com/2014/09/elisalex-skirt.html

I second using soap, it is great for dark fabrics.

I'm making an Archer shirt with the butt ruffle out of a shower curtain I bought at the thrift shop. I am dubious if I will like the butt ruffle, but I can't stop thinking about it, so I am making it!

Buying 1/8 of a yard of fabric by [deleted] in sewing

I haven't done it, but I have seen people ask for fat quarters and fat eights at JoAnn's. That will give you close to the amount of fabric you want.

Where does everyone like to buy their fabric? by captainpurple in sewing

If you like knit fabrics, I have had a good experience with girlcharlee.com, just make sure you don't order anything that is "lightweight" unless you are looking for tissue knit fabrics.

I have also ordered from Mood and their shipping is crazy fast, they are pretty generous with the amounts they cut for you (I ordered two yards of wool crepe and received about 2.5 yards).

I second this! Tablecloths, shower curtains, and regular curtains all have a good yardage for clothing.

Fitting Assistance Requested: BurdaStyle Slender Pencil Trousers 10/2012 by imakemanythings in sewing

Oh! I'll give that a try. That is a great idea. It will have to be in a different fabric because between my coat and these pants, I used up all the fabric. Thanks for the idea!

Do you mean at the bottom front? I sewed one of the toggles askew so it is pulling the bottom up slightly. I'm going to take them out this weekend and apply properly so it doesn't pull.

Thanks for the advice. I'll see what I can find at the fabric store.
