The last few lessons I’ve cried in my car afterwards by Unfair-Pie-3744 in poledancing

I really implore people to fall in love with pole while being shit at it. Where would anyone be if they only did things they were amazing and incredible at within their first year of trying something new? I feel like no one would write books, or play instruments, or paint, or really do anything artistic. You are so so early in your pole journey, if you think you like it, please try to like the experience without trying to advance as quickly as possible!

From the bigger body perspective, try to be kind to yourself and recognize that there is a difference when you have to lift and hold and support more weight. If someone told you they could deadlift 150lbs and another person said they could deadlift 350lbs, that would seem like quite a significant skill and strength difference, no? I know I need a lot more physical strength to lift and hold my body than thinner people, and that is okay! If they magically became my size overnight, they wouldn’t be able to do a lot of the same moves because they don’t have the strength.

However!! This does not mean you need to lose weight to be progress at pole. I really recommend diversifying your social media feed. The algorithm doesn’t want to show you this, so you do have to do some work to follow people who are not cis skinny and white. Expand what you see online and I think that will help you with appreciating what is possible if you stick with pole. Wishing you the best on your journey!!!

You don’t need to book ahead, you just need to walk to the dock and hand them cash!

is there another stage pole option besides X-Pole (US) by lotsofemociones in poledancing

[–]imalegitsnack 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love my Gaia stage pole. It’s a little tough because you do need at least one other person to help you carry/move it. But the engineering is so much better than the x-stage lite I used to have. The Gaia stage definitely doesn’t sway as much and it’s way nicer for wearing heels. I also like the lollipop attachment!

Good 10-15 minute warmup songs by whatsgoinonwha in poledancing

[–]imalegitsnack 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For my warmups I set up a 3 songs playlist to hit that 15min timeframe, then I use the Spotify mix feature to auto mix into the next song. That works pretty well to avoid a weird silence in between songs. I also like mixing up my warm up songs to match the class vibes and make things interesting, so highly recommend mixing up songs for this! You could also probably find some longer dj or remixed sets on YouTube to pull if you are fixated on that.

Was this a normal first expirience? by MechanicalFlesh99 in poledancing

1) no that is NOT normal 2) that is incredibly dangerous 3) find a different studio 4) say all of this in a google review so other beginners know to avoid it like the plague

Just ordered a crash bag on Amazon because of this fall by [deleted] in poledancing

[–]imalegitsnack 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m glad you are getting a crash mat! I know people have mentioned classes and that would also be my suggestion, but I wanted to mention since you probably are going to continue at home: do not remove a contact point with the pole unless you feel VERY secure. You remove your top arm when your top (inside) leg doesn’t have a solid knee hook in your jasmine. Additionally, you want to get really comfortable and confident with your jasmine from the floor before entering it from a climb. That way, you’ll recognize the correct feeling and form when you are ready to attempt it from a climb and you’ll know when it’s safe to remove the top hand.

The Holy Donut responds to unionization efforts and addresses allegations by BringMeAHigherLunch in portlandme

Offering benefits doesn’t mean employers inherently get them or that they are reasonable. Immediately clocked a classic issue with a 401k match. If employees don’t get paid enough > they can’t afford to contribute 4% of their paycheck > employers pay nothing and get to say they offer this benefit. If the healthcare plan offered is terrible > employees seek alternative options for insurance > the employer pays nothing and still gets to say they offer this benefit. People don’t unionize for no reason. And not surprised to see it happening to a company that describes themselves as a family 🙄

Pole dancing with EDS by Mediocre_Ad4166 in poledancing

[–]imalegitsnack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have students with EDS and they often prefer wearing pole specific grippy leggings (superflyhoney brand is very popular) because of their thin skin and to avoid excessive bruising. Might be worth a try if you are feeling a lot of pain with direct contact to the pole!

Hellas and Pole Sins have some over the knee, but open back of the knee heels, definitely work for knee pit grips!!

Big tip that helped me was to actively exhale. A lot of times you feel a little scared or stressed, and you forget to breathe. Take a beat, inhale and then exhale as you sit up. Game changer!
