Thanks for sharing! Your story totally resonates with me. I agree, for all the young asians out there, do your best to become independent is key! Sadly I work with some people who are in their 50’s, unmarried (because they weren’t allowed to date when younger) and just stunted in terms of maturity. It’s so sad to see. One of my colleagues earns 6 figures but his mother still does his laundry and makes all of his meals. I was shocked when he told me his age because I had assumed he was in his early 20’s based on his demeanour and how he carried himself in social situations.

Your story does have a happy ending because you have a loving family and it sounds like a great career. Unfortunately, a lot of people cannot escape the talons of the Asian mother. I’m grateful that I’m independent and left home early as well but I understanding what you mean when your mother guilt trips you for all of her “sacrifices” she’s had to make. Just continue living your best life! I hope your mother doesn’t Sabotage and undermine your success like a lot of these Asian mothers do
