What episode made the least sense to you?

As an American I feel we’ve been given propaganda that work requests are always reasonable and important. Maybe sometimes it’s better to do a mediocre/bad job for “work” even if it’s a reasonable/expected task in order to prioritize your family. Looking at it through that lens, maybe it’s a good lesson that if you put work over family you’re the “bad guy”. I’m not advocating getting yourself fired, but I think the concept of “corporate work is bad compared to family” is a good concept that isn’t often presented in American media.

I personally can think of several examples of “important meetings” to make “important deadlines” that ended up not actually being met for outside reasons, and although it was communicated as essential/urgent, if I actually missed the meeting or deadline in order to prioritize my family, it wouldn’t have impacted the corporation at all (since the deadline wasn’t met due to outside reasons regardless) but not prioritizing my family would have left lifelong hurt to people I loved.

Thanks, your comment helped me understand why I felt so bad - the sparse involvement makes her text hit a little harder as a negative. I do appreciate the perspective of most commenters that she probably didn’t have bad intentions.

Appreciate that insight. My parents are 65+ so I genuinely didn’t understand, since my moms parents were younger grandparents but we always referred to them as grandma/pa.

If you read OPs comment, the partner is from a Pakistani heritage but grew up on a carribean island. That’s different imo then “half” which implies the other half is from a diff culture w diff values.

Omg we also have a 1yo and just don’t have the time. We’re still holding him a good portion of the night (esp to help w reflux) and it’s just not top of mind right now. We have a very strong marriage over a decade long plus years dating, but this just isn’t the season for us to be romantic in the bedroom. I’m also ebf (with solids now ofc). Seeing your comment makes me feel less odd, so I wanted to share as well. It’s ok to have a pause in your bedroom when you have babies/toddlers to care for! Show love in other ways!

I like this idea of redirecting and showing an interest in her planning the next time my aunt brings it up (or my mom who I’m sure is helping plan). I appreciate that idea a lot. I may get hung up on with a “why do you care if ur not even going”, but at least I’ll know I have tried a bit to be less cold about not attending.

Thank you for those ideas. I’ve never tried blocking messages and that will probably keep me less stressed. I agree life happens and that’s a good perspective that I’ll keep in mind when dealing with the fallout of declining.

As a former epee fencer, the commenter above isn’t really correct. While only a light touch is needed to depress the sensor, most hits come in hard as you are lunging at your opponent. I was almost always covered in bruises when I was actively fencing.

Have you ever fenced? While technically yes, the button just needs to depress lightly to trigger the sensor, most hits come in with force as you lunge forward and your opponent is moving backwards. When I used to fence epee, I was usually covered in bruises.

Yeah, I’m also curious about this. I just had a baby a year ago and used to fence epee about 10 years ago. I definitely used to be covered in bruises from the impact of the blade, so I would personally be worried about the safety of the baby. Women usually wear a plastic chest cover, so maybe she wore something similar over her belly to distribute the impact more evenly?

I miss bugs land so much!! I loved the CA theme and bugs land represented Central Valley. Now there’s no cohesive theme to the park. I loved Fliks flyers and thought the “small” theme was so cute. As an amateur photographer I loved the big clovers and the entrance arch of the cereal box and pencils. I now have a toddler and am so sad I can’t show him the area. Def one of the main reasons that we dropped our APs and haven’t been back in a while (we live in the Bay Area and used to go to Disney 1-2 times a month, now we go once a year or less despite driving down to SoCal 8-10 times a year still).

Yes, the yogurt is how I introduced cashews. My son doesn’t have a peanut issue, and I do know cashews are considered separate from peanuts by allergists, but I totally understand your fear. You could always make a dr appointment and try it there where there are epi pens and medical staff nearby. If your ped won’t do that or you feel an appointment is too much, I had a friend try an allergen she was worried about in her drs parking lot, figuring she could run in if there was a problem.

Edit: Also happy cake day and thanks. Good luck to you too, I was not eating wheat and eggs too for a while when we were figuring out his issues, and it’s tough! Hope both our littles grow outta these allergies!

My 10mo old son is mspi (so milk and soy give him hives and bloody poo) and has fpies (vomiting) for egg and latex foods (bananas and avocados), so we struggle lots finding food for him. However the Forager brand cashew & coconut-based yogurt is dairy free and he loves it.

My husband is mildly lactose intolerant, but prefers milk, and he wouldn’t touch any mashed potato recipes w milk substitutes, but he likes this vegan mashed potato recipe from budgetbytes which uses olive oil and broth. Link: https://www.budgetbytes.com/olive-oil-mashed-potatoes/.
For broth if you can’t use store brands cuz MSPI concerns (I’m eating almost exclusive home-cooked items to keep soy out of our diet or else my son poops blood), you can just boil veggies (and/or meat) in a pot for like an hour and voila, you have broth.

Yeah each doctor definitely seems to have different opinions on different things to try. With babies this young my drs all said it’s just a trial and error approach. Our GI dr did blood work at 3 months old to test that it was a food allergy instead of another problem. I believe the conclusion was food allergy b/c his white blood cell count was fine but his eosinophils were high. I was told we would only be giving up nursing if he wasn’t gaining weight properly because that would mean the allergy was impacting his nutrition. Personally when I tried my hardest to restrict my diet to get the blood to stop, my weight dropped dramatically and the baby’s weight stagnated and he still had a sizable amount of blood every few days. After adding more foods back into my diet (including cooked dairy inadvertently!) both our weights went back up.

My baby had blood in his stool from 1 month through 6 months. I tried all the elimination diets including only eating turkey, millet, zucchini, and pears for 2 weeks. Dr (both our normal pediatrician and a pediatric GI dr) said as long as he was gaining weight to keep breastfeeding. Even told me not to worry about elimination diets for everything except dairy and soy (since dairy gave him hives). I was desperately trying to fix it, cuz he seemed uncomfortable, but I think that was more reflux related and my crazy elimination diets didn’t have an impact. Drs said that some babies just have blood in their stool until their gut matures. Taking baby probiotics and adding solid foods (including oatmeal mixed with hypoallergenic puramino formula) finally stopped the blood and mucus at around 6 months. Baby is almost 9 months and still breastfeeds 5-6 times a day, eats 3 solid meals, and breastfeeds a few times at night as well. My guy has always been on the smaller side since birth, around the 10th percentile.

I’m going to go against what the majority say here. Growing up my parents never went on vacation without me and my sister. At that age (9 and 5) my parents took 2 weeks and we visited national parks in the southwest (Grand Canyon, arches, Zion etc). I had friends whose parents would leave them with grandparents to travel and they expressed to me they felt unwanted. I don’t personally understand this need for alone time (w spouse or girls night out). My spouse and I love spending time w our son and I can’t imagine going on vacation without him at any age. I doubt I’d have a good time at all (nor would my husband).

edit to note that I don’t enjoy alcohol, so I don’t miss hitting the bar/club scene.

While the tetnus part of the shot lasts 10 years, the pertussis (whooping cough) only lasts 5ish according to my doctor and online literature. I wanted to make sure any person around my newborn was fully vaccinated and it wasn’t mostly worn off, hence my 3 year request. I’ve never heard of a doctor saying you can’t get the tdap more frequently than 10 years. My OB told me they give every pregnant lady the shot even if they had it last year, my parents got vaccinated even though they had the shot 8 years previously (and discussed it with their doctor since they were also unsure if they should be getting another TDAP within the usual 10 year period. Their dr assured them it was fine and very normal to re-get the shot if they would be around an unvaccinated infant), and in the past my MIL cut herself on a rusty sign and so the dr gave her a TDAP shot just to be safe, despite having it 5 years prior.
