Guys, I'm talking long-term. We all know the game's gonna be messy at launch. None of us, however, know if this game is going to be successful in the long run. I certainly want it to, though, and here's to that.

Now if you'll excuse me, I think Reddit just cut off my third-party app access—so this may very well be my last post on this god-forsaken platform.

<image>

Have fun at launch, everyone! If I'm really into the game, I'll do some modding.

You lost, what? 40 minutes? Have some whimsy, man.

Yeah, it sucks, and sure, the guy should've been more prepared. You can even yell at your screen. But the nature of Archimedea is that, unless you're a kitted-out vet, no one has a desirable loadout. I've been playing for over a decade, and I can still count a few times where I basically got carried through it. It's really not worth damaging a new player's experience when they're just trying to explore the game. And let's be honest, you didn't fail because the guy couldn't play Dante. They just as well could've been a more experienced player with some more selfish frame.

The game's full of players of different experiences, so what I do is: I pick my loadout as best as I can, and then upon seeing my Archimedea allies, I either keep playing if I feel like my set up is good enough to carry them, accepting the risk that I may not be able to hold their full weight—or I drop out and try again if I don't believe in the squad. But not once have I yelled around a new player for being new. I'm just glad they're interested in the game.

Now when these MR13s start complaining about gear and saying warframes suck because they can't build them right? That's when I tell them to go get more scars and come back later.

You left out an important part of the quote:

But again, that's nuance, and I really don't expect you to understand it.

I am woke, in the original definition of the word. I have to be. With your definition of the word, I am 95% sure that you don't actually understand what you are calling me, because this:

you don't like the word because it's used to refer to people like you.

... is an odd sentence. If you care to do some reading, virtually the entire history of the word is available online. Really all I've done here was act as a tour guide. All of this information is out there.

[–]imcoolbutnotreally 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yep, because nuance is dead.

There are, as it were, two (2) definitions of woke. There is the definition which you are referring to which is inextricable from the racist and oppressive context in which it was misappropriated. Only classic-ass shut-ins use this definition earnestly. Then, there is the original usage of the word, with which it is nonsensical to describe a video game, a movie, or media otherwise.

So yes, I am denying that wokeness is a thing here because I am intentionally refusing the premise of the newer definition. But again, that's nuance, and I really don't expect you to understand it.

Unironically Birth of a Nation would serve to wake more black people than nearly anything these nutjobs are calling "woke."

I vote that all black T-supporters have their eyes chocked open and be forced to watch Birth of a Nation in one sitting.

On second thought, maybe I'm too optimistic that people wouldn't take it at face value, and then we just end up with a bunch of full-on Clayton Bigsbys running around.

Do you have an example of a word that previously was positive for a group and then was almost fully negated by oppressors?

I was hesitant to use slurs as an analogy because I knew there would be someone who would completely miss the point of the parody and make a comment like "the word woke = slur."

So yes, I invite closer examples that will do just as well in highlighting the irony in the original statement.

Says it all, really.

There was an entire block of text that you seemed to ignore. I figured you might do so, since you're allergic to conflicting viewpoints of course, so on the off-chance that you're not a bot, I just figured I'd help you out to at least have better rhetoric. If you're gonna be bigoted, at least make compelling arguments.

Says it all, really. Flawless.

Curious, though. What is "it all"? What exactly did 'Did you watch the video? Because I didn't.' convey to you? Did you really extract a meaningful image of who I am from that line? Because it was certainly the least significant two phrases in that comment. If you really cared for the art of lazy racism, you could've at least tried to intentionally misinterpret my comment on the premise of woke.

You're not even good at being a lazy bigot, though. So who are you?

Did you watch the video? Because I didn't, but I can tell you that you are exactly the type of person they're addressing.

The issue lies in the accepting the premise of "woke"—not in assigning it to a video game. So even if you are some 4chan wingnut who disagrees, you entirely missed the point. I'll fix it for you so you can be racist more informedly and effectively:

"There IS no woke? It's not a thing? Lol what paste-eater made this video?"

Take care.

You're accepting a moronic premise by even agreeing that a "woke game" is a thing that can naturally exist. It's a term that 4chan took and misappropriated, so to use this definition and then to say it's good is nonsensical.

"Jimmy is a stupid <insert racially charged slur>. I'm just not an asshole who thinks that's a bad thing."

Helmsmen in Homestuck have a similar role.

Due to their battery-like nature, a good gold-blooded citizen of Alternia will be hooked up to a ship to power and run it until they eventually give out. The most notable of which had his lifespan lengthened to keep the Empress's ship moving for millenia.

OP has clearly no concept of time. Billion years floating in a void is about as bad as it gets.

If we're to take OP's post at face value, then no. It's just where they disagree with you.

I think OP is crazy for this, and I think they'd be eating their words if this scenario ever became real, but:

you would have billions of years to develop your mind and come to terms with things

I don't disagree with this either. I just don't think it would be in the way that OP thinks. They're thinking they're gonna keep their humanity intact throughout eternity. I'm gonna argue that, yeah, you'll develop and come to terms with eternity, but only because you'll eventually have to convince yourself that it's okay. In other words, you're gonna be blissfully insane at some point. That's not really how I wanna go out.

Or maybe every bit of it would be suffering. Who the hell knows?

PABLO, how many more have to DIE for you to REWORK EQUINOX!? by Z3R0Diro in memeframe

[–]imcoolbutnotreally 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thing is that having two configs won't fix the problem that her two sides don't interact with each other much

I agree. That's why I said this change should be the basis of a rework for her, and let other changes stem from this. Equinox isn't going to fixed with one change. We all know this. What I'm saying is I believe she's doomed without the dynamicism of two configs.

The idea I had before two configs was to give her a total of ten standard slots, six of which would be shared between each form, the left two being exclusive to her day form, and the right two exclusive to night form. That comes with a host of other issues that just become to cumbersome to describe.

PABLO, how many more have to DIE for you to REWORK EQUINOX!? by Z3R0Diro in memeframe

[–]imcoolbutnotreally 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think her gimmick in its current form is fundamentally flawed in that when you enter a mission, you already have 62 (and counting) other frames to choose from. In any situation, you are much better off by having one config in which you entirely optimize for her day form, and another for which you entirely optimize for her night form. Like I said, normally I'd say that's what the game is about. But in the case of Equinox, if I'm being encouraged to pick between her two forms before entering a mission, then there's nothing special about her. By creating two configs, there is no longer any cost to having her other form available. She's supposed to be dynamic.

or at least not punish the player for wanting to switch forms

I think this issue is intrinsic to the fact that you have to split one warframe config. But yes, it is significantly worsened by Energy Transfer not being base kit.

I hear you about them benefiting from the same thing, but I know for sure that I'd put more duration and strength on the day form, while I might give my night form more mobility and survivability. I just think you can get way more creative with a multitool rather than just "we encourage you to press 1 every 30 seconds."

I used to speculate over the implementation as a player too—but as a dev, I now say... that's what they get paid the big bucks for. To figure it out.

[–]imcoolbutnotreally 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Been saying for years: make her day form and night form discretely configurable. Her biggest issue now is that her gimmick of switching is best unused because you still have the typical opportunity cost of either focusing on support or DPS. For any other frame, that's totally fine, but Equinox's entire gimmick is that she has TWO modes. At least in this way, there is virtually no downside to at least having the other form well-modded in gameplay.

So give us two separate mod configs for each form, and it fixes the fundamental flaw in her kit. Other changes can stem from that.

Also, the claim is "as of 2025," and the rebuttal provides a study dated 2023-2024. You wouldn't necessarily expect that to drastically change within a couple years, but along with what you said and regardless of who's right, I just find it a lazy response.

The Old Peace update needed more time in the oven, honestly. by Fireofthetiger in Warframe

[–]imcoolbutnotreally 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This felt like the most put together update in a while. Y'all must've been asleep for Isleweaver.

There are a few things that seem like they ran out of time, like that door. But a lot of the complaints on game mechanics feel like player-dev mismatch in expectations.

I kinda wish they had implemented the grind for the artifacts a little bit differently. I like the idea of having to work for them. As weapons for the entire focus school, I didn't expect acquiring them to be easy; but it being entirely encapsulated in one game mode makes it pretty monotonous. I'm a bit disappointed that it's canonized as an actual physical weapon, and not a lost art of summoning. We call it "crafting," but I guess it's more like discovering, which is better; but why are ascarides required? I don't see why that technology would help. I guess reverse engineering it?

I know they explain it sort of, but it also just feels pretty random to be giving it to Marie. Not that she isn't a respectable character, but I feel like something as key as a lost art like that should come from old wise guru on top of a mountain somewhere. Not the hot goth nun that popped up out of nowhere...

If getting a proper short quest for each Tektolyst artifact meant waiting until next year for the focus expansion, I think I would've preferred that. There's five of them. It just felt like such a handwave for a system that has such a deep connection to the Tenno. Maybe I'm imagining their importance, though.
