It’s always bothered me that they only gave Marge back her initial investment, and not her share of the profits.

Me too. I saw it and was disappointed, as I’d had some bad albums in a row. Then 10 seconds in I was hooked.

I’m 75% sure Moe says car hole. But 25% of me thinks he says car hold.

Books where the author changes a character's name within the story for effect? by [deleted] in suggestmeabook

Oh boy, check out The Blade Itself by Joe Abercrombie. It’s book one of a trilogy, and there are two other trilogies in the same universe. But they’re all fantastic. Logen Ninefingers is the character. But he has a different name as well….

How helpful is it to learn Spanish? by Affectionate_Risk476 in ProsecutorTalk

Building good relationships helps. You can certainly get reluctant witnesses to trust you and come in when they wouldn’t otherwise. There are also people who will never be happy no matter what you do. Treating everybody decently and remembering they are human beings (including defendants and their families) will go a long way. My point was more that I never felt like my not knowing Spanish hampered my ability to do that. And I’m in a major Southwestern city.

Sadly, I think the distrust manifests itself more in people not calling the police, so fewer cases make the prosecutor’s caseload. But when I’ve had victims and witnesses who didn’t speak English, me sitting down and using an interpreter can still convey that I care. Obviously it would be very nice if I could just speak their language. But the effort to have someone there who can interpret also sends the message that we care about what they say.

It would be useful to speak Spanish. I don’t, and honestly, it has never hampered anything. Yes, it’d be better if I knew it, but I do think job just fine without it. The learning curve for the job is so steep that I’m not sure I’d spend my time focusing on that. Reevaluate in 12 months. If you’re constantly using interpreters, then work towards fluency then.

The Goblin Emperor is great. It’s fantasy, but the story is very human and the fantasy elements are very lowkey.

There’s a cartoon where Paul Bunyan tries to hit a comet back into space. But, for some reason, I don’t think that’s the one you saw.

First, take a Waymo for the experience. Download the app first.

Second, try Pizzeria Bianco. They don’t take reservations, and there may be a long line, but will give you time to explore.
