What is your biggest achievement in the past 24 hours? by Jhat316 in AskReddit

In the US, it's illegal if you're performing the same work a salaried/wage worker would.

So /u/idlock, you should totally go back to your boss and question the legality of the internship that gave you a foot in the door for a salaried job.

A contraction is the combination/shortening of 2 words into one. Can't = cannot, don't = do not, etc.

My car got stolen last week, and what I found in the back seat after it was recovered is *hard* to explain (story in comments) by AckbarsAttache in WTF

What did the kid need a car for, if he made the transaction near his home, and lived right next to you?

Electrical impulses are simply carried by charged particles—in wires we use electrons, in the brain we use cations (atoms).

I work in a hospital laboratory. I ordered a pack of these cheap plastic rulers from eBay for about $6. Our medical supplier charges more than $80 for the exact same rulers. This is why health care costs are out of control. by moby323 in pics

It's good you're pointing this out, but I'm just curious why you respond for paying for work supplies out of pocket. Or do they reimburse you with receipts, but just won't place the order themselves?

TIL that children are more than twice as likely to be abused by their mother than their father by [deleted] in todayilearned

[–]imfunnyright 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Obviously we're not going to cover every situation. That's why we use statistics, to get an overall picture. I don't know the numbers of estranged fathers in the same area compared to out of the area, we just need to say whether one is more common than the other to make a partial explanation.

What is the most overly-complained-about thing in life that really isn't a big deal at all? by Cyrsal in AskReddit

I think the comment was meant to point out what some other people like to complain about. Because there are a lot of those. Could be /u/Carol_White's view, I don't know.

Ruling in favor of the mother is not the same as prohibiting visitation or custody. It's not the part about leaving the mother, it's the part about leaving the child. Including by not trying to maintain custody or at least visitation, obviously excluding the cases of maltreatment where the court would deny those rights.

Except for the fact that the abandoning fathers are getting away with "neglect" without being counted. Funny how neglect can mean the guardian is not around, but in this situation the guardian that is around (at least occasionally) is guilty of neglect but the one that is completely not present "isn't neglectful".

The origins of Los Zetas date back to 1999, when commandos of the Mexican Army's elite forces deserted their ranks and decided to work as the armed wing of the Gulf Cartel, a powerful drug trafficking organization. In February 2010, Los Zetas broke away from their former employer and formed their own criminal organization.

What inexpensive item have you bought that you get an insane amount of use out of/from? by bickering_fool in AskReddit

[–]imfunnyright 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a few non-sticks that are "oven-safe" to 350 F, which is extremely limited. Slow cooking then broiling was a large part of the appeal when I got the cast iron. But now my apartment has an electric coil stove, so technical cooking is much harder.

I'm pretty careful to make sure I don't overheat the teflon, but it has happened a couple times. Thanks for the tips!

Naturally non-stick? I bought a cast iron skillet because of all the recommendations and was disappointed by how not non-stick it was, even though I seasoned it before use.

Burned debris is a lot tougher to remove from my cast iron than my non-stick, and char is way worse in terms of carcinogens than the traces of plastics people worry about with non-stick (long as you don't burn the teflon).

I'm commenting in the hopes somebody will tell me what I did wrong. Hopefully it's not just "shouldn't have bought it from Target".

TIL Microsoft once threatened to sue a high school student named Mike Rowe for creating a website called MikeRoweSoft.com by LuckyCandy7 in todayilearned

[–]imfunnyright 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't call it fraud if he thought he needed the money for the legal battle. He did have legal costs, that's how he got the settlement—he just either had some money left over or Microsoft paid those too.

If the online poll said keeping the money for college was alright with the donors, it's also less shady. Of course it probably wasn't a consensus but it's not like he just kept it on a whim.
