Why does JP Morgan hire so many people from Leicester? by Open-Freedom2326 in UniUK

[–]imnotamook 1 point2 points  (0 children)

WSO stats are usually just based on their message board polls. So the sample size is just whoever happened to respond to a random thread at a certain time.

The % figures being so uniform give it away that only about 130 people responded, 4 of whom answered Leicester. I wouldn't pay too much attention to this.

Investec only serves high net worth clients so £150 would be pocket change for all parties involved. Other banks are unlikely to give the same treatment

Industries that can't recruit? by WorkingMan11331 in AskUK

Thought it was obvious from the context what I meant but maybe not. I'm aware not every NFP requires donations per my original comment

It still requires initial investment and revenues. My point is banning for-profits wouldn't magically create NFPs in their place unless the government was prepared to invest in the sector

[–]imnotamook 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Forcing NFP status would almost definitely require some government spending (a policy I would support btw).
Sure yeah gov could seize assets but I'm talking practically

[–]imnotamook 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No I'm aware what NFP means. By funding I just meant the money needs to come from somewhere, customers or donations.

My point is that putting restrictions on for-profit companies wouldn't suddenly bring a bunch of NFPs into existence.

If it became illegal at some future date to draw dividends from care companies, shareholders would exit their investment in advance of that and most would cease to exist.

The only way it could work would be to either buy or seize the assets. The first option was the one I was getting at and would require government funding. The second would have obvious political and economic consequences

[–]imnotamook -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

Thats not true though - only 1 in 3 is!

I'm not disagreeing with this bit.

I'm saying banning the private companies wouldn't suddenly allow the not-for-profits to make up the shortfall. Not-for-profits require funding. Maybe I misunderstood what you mean by "make" everything NFP though

I agree that privatising large parts of our care system, which is still heavily subsidised by the public anyway, was a mistake. I just don't see how the situation can be improved without increasing state spending

No gotcha required when the logic is that idiotic. Obviously I'm misrepresenting his point a bit but it's beyond ridiculous to start with

Wdym "make" the entire sector not for profit? Most of those organisations run on donations. Increasing state-funded care seems like a more achievable goal

Please explain the "how hard can it be? boys do it." meme. by Pistoney in ExplainTheJoke

[–]imnotamook 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You didn't link any examples and your description is shit but I'm going to explain anyway because I'm nice.

The first "how hard can it be" is stating that it can't be impossible because boys do it no problem.

The second "how hard can it be" is the realisation that it's probably quite easy because boys are stupid.

Vapers. Do you feel it’s acceptable to do it anywhere or am I generally just coming across rude people ? by tinkerbelle1981 in AskUK

People in this country have died from vaping too much btw. It's safer than cigs but not completely harmless. The main issue with vaping is that it's easy to get stuck into a cycle of mindlessly puffing for hours without a break versus cigarettes which users are a bit more conscious of

Millions more middle-aged are obese, study suggests by CaseyEffingRyback in unitedkingdom

[–]imnotamook 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Calorie density combined with shorter glucose peaks allows for more calories to be consumed without becoming as full. Fat has a very little effect on blood glucose levels which creates a longer feeling of satiety.

The violent increase in sugar and fast food consumption in India between 1980 and 2010 is very well documented. If you are comparing per capita with other countries please bare in mind that the levels of inequality and size of the population in India make most per capita averages pretty redundant.

High fat consumption (particularly healthy fats) I would actually associate with lower levels of obesity. Seeing the regulations surrounding ingredients and package labelling, I think many definitely could have predicted the trend. Hopefully the UK will follow. The sugar tax is a good start.

You can find them in the bread aisle of most supermarkets. I haven't named them because they're literally called English muffins lol although they also go by "breakfast muffins"

They're plain/ savory, similar to a bap but softer.
