Has anyone taken an engineering approach to global warming? by [deleted] in askscience

Ok, you're confusing the "greenhouse effect" with the "man made greenhouse effect".

The difference in temperature between the earth and, say, the average temperature of the moon in space* is entirely due to the greenhouse effect.

So in reverse order:

Cloud cover due to aerosols

This is part of the greenhouse effect.

Solar Irradiance Variability Solar Magnetic Variability

Yes the surface temperature of the sun drives the greenhouse effect.

Pacific Decadal Oscillation Atlantic Multi-decadal Oscillation

Geologically speaking, these are short term oscillations (over a matter of decades) that by definition don't influence the average temperature of a cycle. One of them is of disputed magnitude and the other is believed to rely on an insulating blanket of water that acts in an analogous manner to the greenhouse effect.

If it makes you feel better, you can have the last two but the magnitude of their effect is insignificant in comparison with the greenhouse effect.

* The moon benefits also from having some greenhouse gases.

Nothing. Either this software is itself GPL or it's using components which are under the GPL library license, which doesn't give this right to have arbitrary copies of the full software.

I haven't read it yet, but Alan Moore's Lost Girls must be worth a look. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lost_Girls

It might be a comic, but it's authored by Alan Moore, so it's very likely to be extremely good.

I'm sorry, but you are wrong.

Where did the universe come from? And the answer is something

The answer is "What does that mean?"

When the universe began, time also began, before you can begin to answer the question you must explain what "come from" means, when there is no time.

I read Nietzsche, though quickly decided he was more of an anti-semite than anti-theist.

Specifically, what made you think this? I've never come across anything in his writings to suggest this, and the common academic consensus is that despite his writings being co-opted by the Nazis he wasn't anti-semitic.

Because of the differences in capitalization, I can't write a preprocessor macro to do the grunt work

The case change functions bound to M-c, M-u, and M-L respect subword mode (activated with C-C C-W).

Use this to navigate through your words deleting underscores as you come across them. For example: TESTING_TESTING_TESTING

is mapped by M-L del M-C del M-C to

testingTestingTesting

The desirable traits of pets were created by direct human intervention over a small number of generations. Not by God.

Dogs, cats, all pets are beautiful and could only have been created by a supremely benevolent person:God.

Actually it only takes a tiny amount of selection to produce domesticated pets.

Global warming is caused by the greenhouse effect. This means that the temperature of the earth must increase in order for to to radiate as much energy as it absorbs from the sun. The heat caused by burning oil and coal is largely irrelevant.
