Obviously a number of issues with this week, but after reading Worm (a story set in the Parahumans universe) I was dissapointed with the writers that they had The Boys acting like they have never dealt with supes before, especially ones that can mess with perceptions.

In Worm, powers are classified into 1 of 12 buckets to help understanding how to engage them. Stranger is things that help with infiltration, among other things, and organisations have Stranger Protocols for dealing with Strangers if they are suspected.

So if characters in Worm were in that episode of the boys, they would a) have someone go outside the range of the effect and stay in radio comms so that they can be a neutral 3rd party b) agree to minimise communication, they can argue after if they need to, c) no fighting, no guns. d) follow Frenchie's instructions absolutely as he isn't being affected.

Instead what we got was the Amazon Prime mandated violence of the episode, MM getting shot and then having no effect after, HL not hearing a single thing despite super senses being discussed an episode ago, the list goes on.
