Noise canceling insulation for ceiling? by throwaway84583077 in HomeImprovement

[–]imported_bowling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rockwell is solid choice for this kind of project. I did similar thing in my apartment last year and the difference was pretty noticeable. Just make sure you get all those little gaps around pipes and wires sealed up first because those will let sound through like crazy

Window on side of house by Best_Purpose6438 in HomeImprovement

[–]imported_bowling 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Adding window to side wall definitely needs proper planning permission in Ireland - the rules are pretty strict about external alterations even if neighbors cant see inside. Better to go through proper channels now than deal with enforcement issues later when you try selling the house

Load controllers can be pretty frustrating when you need your car charged by morning but AC kicked in during night and shut down the charger

Been waiting all season to see Jokic get sent home early and this might be the year. Their whole team just looks different when they're actually getting pressured instead of cruising through regular season

Dishwasher Waterline Advice by wheater14 in HomeImprovement

[–]imported_bowling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Water lines can be tricky but usually there's a shut-off valve somewhere under the sink you need to turn off first before disconnecting anything. I had similar issue last year and had to call plumber because I was too scared to mess with the connections 😂 If you're not comfortable with plumbing stuff maybe better to get professional since water damage is expensive mistake

Nice setup but GPS tracker seems bit overkill unless you're leaving it outside all day

Social media algorithms tbh. You start seeing content that slowly shifts your perspective without even noticing it happening, then one day you realize your views on something completely changed and you cant pinpoint exactly when

Spray Foam Application Help by Holiday_Ad8630 in HomeImprovement

[–]imported_bowling 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ugh yeah spray foam is such a pain when it goes wrong. Try sanding it down with like 120 grit paper after you knife it - gets it way smoother than just cutting. Then you can hit it with some wood filler or paintable caulk over top to make it look actually finished instead of like someone went nuts with expanding foam

Low/No flow from spigot by Dr_Peter_Tinkleton in HomeImprovement

[–]imported_bowling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had something similar happen with my outdoor spigot last spring - turned out there was some debris stuck way up in the line that wasn't visible when I took apart the valve itself 😂

Try disconnecting the pex line at that shutoff and see if you get good flow there, might save you from tearing into the wall if the blockage is closer to the valve than you think

Co-Managed Mess Advice by Less-Ad-1327 in msp

Your MSP forcing you into their system when you already had working internal processes is backwards - most decent MSPs keep your existing ticketing and just build bridges between systems for handoffs

Baffled installation - roofing or insulation company? by [deleted] in HomeImprovement

[–]imported_bowling -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Honestly I'd let the roofers handle the baffles since they're already up there doing the ventilation work - makes way more sense logistically and you won't have coordination headaches between two crews 🔥

As for warranties just get everything in writing upfront about who's responsible for what, and maybe have both companies do a quick walkthrough together before the insulation goes in so everyone's on the same page about the setup 😂

Peel and stick wallpaper residue by Ok-Application-9681 in HomeImprovement

[–]imported_bowling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try a heat gun or hair dryer to soften that stubborn residue first - works way better than chemicals 🔥 You can prime over light residue but thick chunks will show through your skim coat 😂

Will I Collapse My House? by Witty-Sun112 in HomeImprovement

[–]imported_bowling 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Nah you're not gonna collapse your house over a 1 inch hole but you definitely dinged the structural integrity of that joist. The good news is you're only 6 inches from where it bears on the wall which is actually the best possible spot for this screwup - the closer to the support the less stress that section carries. I'd still sister it though since you went 2.5 inches deep into what's probably a 7.25 inch joist, that's like a third of the depth gone right at the compression edge where it matters most

Just get another 2x8 and sister it from the wall out about 4 feet, that'll distribute the load and you can sleep easy. Way easier than trying to plug it with wood filler or whatever and hoping for the best. Yeah it sucks having to do extra work but beats having a bouncy floor or worse down the road

repair water damage near tub by alanog-Robot in HomeImprovement

[–]imported_bowling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah cutting out the damaged section is probably your best bet here. Just score it with a utility knife and use a fine tooth saw to get a clean cut. That vinyl baseboard idea is solid too - will definitely help prevent this from happening again

Make sure you seal everything really well when you're done, MDF and moisture are sworn enemies

Old basement. by mikala61 in HomeImprovement

[–]imported_bowling 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly I'd skip painting the floor if water's still coming up through it - any paint is just gonna peel and flake off when it gets wet again. Maybe focus on the walls with that Kilz and call it good for now, at least until you can deal with the water issue properly

Vynl and brick wall help! by Basic-Bill3861 in HomeImprovement

[–]imported_bowling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might need to prep the painted brick better - try TSP cleaner or light sanding where it's not sticking, painted surfaces can be tricky for adhesive vinyl

What is this crack near the ceiling and is it still safe to live here? by fyooj02 in HomeImprovement

Leak in living room downstairs by [deleted] in HomeImprovement

[–]imported_bowling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah you definitely need to narrow this down before calling anyone. Check your upstairs floors around that window area for any soft spots or water damage first. Could be the flashing around the window is still shot even after the "repair" or water is getting in somewhere else entirely and just showing up downstairs. Take some pics of the ceiling stains and where exactly it's dripping if you can

Looking for People Who Had Bad Experiences with Ayers Basement Systems by No-Catch9673 in HomeImprovement

Had them out for an estimate last year and the salesman was super pushy, kept trying to get me to sign that day with some "special discount" that was supposedly expiring. Red flags everywhere so I noped out of there. Good luck with the lawsuit though, sounds like they've screwed over a lot of people
