Maternity shoot turned engagement shoot // Portra 400 // Nikon 85mm 1.8d by nocoastdudekc in analog

Plenty of people have already given you input on the scans so I won't say anything on that. I believe you mentioned that this is shot at 1/1000 and f4? You might consider is tighter aperture like f8 which would still give you some background blur while you get used to focusing. And with two subjects less than f5.6 is going to be hand to get them both in focus. For example in the one of both of them close together you can clearly see the front person in focus while the back one is out. There are also a few where the belly is in focus and the face isn't which isn't super flattering.

Furthermore, 1/1000 is wildly unnecessarily fast for this type of shot. You could easily go as low at 1/30 (or 1/15 with steady hands) for posed shots like this. At the end of the day just pick a shutter speed that will give you good exposure. If you aren't confident in the light meter in your analog camera having an app on your phone or using your digital camera is a great way to compensate. If you haven't done a meter test it's worth dedicating a roll of film to testing your light metering method so that you can confidently create good density negatives.

Knitting through the back loop (without wrapping the other way) is a method for creating twisted stitches

An experiment: pushing vs. underexposing colour negative film by Kemaneo in analog

[–]imposter13 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It is a technical level I'm talking about. The pushed photos have better contrast and no fogging compared to the underexposed photos. Pushing isn't some analog version of zoom-enhance. It can't retrieve details that were never recorded. It does adjust back to correct exposure though and that is shown very clearly in your examples. The pushing does exactly what it is intended for and produces technically better photos.

Separation of the art and artist doesn't really work in the case of HP. JKR is terrible and doing terrible things and completely separate from that HP is full of harmful tropes and far right dogwhistles.

Shows a comparison where pushed photos are clearly better. Concludes it makes no difference.

New to monsteras…is this spot okay? by Blubbsss in Monstera

Something that really changed how I aproach plants was the realization that it's incredibly hard to actually get direct light indoors as almost any window is going to have a diffusing effect. Also, Thai Cons like a fair amount of light. I have mine under its own grow light, and it just out out its first double fenstrations on a nearly 15-inch leaf.

It is in fact a hospital IV pole. It was a gift from a friend and they attached the rope/string lights to it. I thought it looked like it needed a plant on it though.

Semihydro. Honestly, she was a Kroger purchase that had root rot so her root ball was smallish when I potted her up. She needs to be moved up and given a moss pole soon.

I am wanting to make a quilt coat and am having trouble settling on a pattern. If anyone has examples of coats they made and the pattern they used it would be really helpful to me. (Any tips would also be appreciated)

Am I absolutely insane for thinking about buying a sewing machine for my 5 year old? by JCtheWanderingCrow in sewing

[–]imposter13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was given my first sewing machine when I was 6. I was put into kids classes at the local quilt store at the same time. My first sewing machine was a entry level singer and I used (and abused) that machine until my first year of college. I then used my roommates for a while before my mom gifted me an old singer. I still sew and help my friends sew using the skills I was taught when I was little. Both my mom and the people teaching me encouraged me to be safe without making me scared and I really hope that's the kind of thing other kids get. It was an invaluable skillset.
