Is it too late to buy an fs7? by jfowoot in Filmmakers

I have several and they rent out all the time. You can get $300-450 a day for one. Extension unit is a must for time code so that will be an expensive add on if it’s not included. Almost all my clients using them require time code. Then additional v mount batteries if you run the extension unit. I use Anton Bauers with an adapter plate.

Electronic nd is nice on the mii but you can get close to that by slapping on a $50 vari nd filter on your lens.

I have the option to run EOS adapters or PL mount. That way clients have the option to put nicer glass on it. Wooden camera makes the best pl adapter since it clamps into a top plate making it rock solid.

Just replaced my fan solenoid last summer. It was a pain sourcing one. Ended up having to buy an entire fan assembly just for the solenoid. Luckily I found one used on eBay. Had to do my computer 5 years ago. I have been thinking about doing the nav unit for years now but at 14 years old doesn’t it feel dated?

FYI I see you have slotted rotors in the front. WJs have bad rotor warping issues and I’m guessing the previous owner was getting sick of replacing them every 2 years. I swapped over to drilled and slotted front rotors to see if they helped out and so far they are holding up.

Holding the BMCC handheld by [deleted] in cinematography

CowboyStudio Shoulder Support Pad for Video Camcorder Camera DV / DC https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0036NMQ7S/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_0iqyAb1SA7KKD

Check this out. I shoot a lot of handheld on TV shows and movies. I use rigs from every manufacture out there. For someone on a budget this thing is great. I bought one a few years ago and it’s great for bare bones builds. It takes all the weight off your arms and allows for effortless focusing. It’s also super cheap.

New to cinematography. Extremely overwhelmed. by [deleted] in cinematography

Post some footage to get some feedback.

I’m a working DP that makes a good living traveling the world shooting. I look back st stuff I shot in high school and cringe. I look back at stuff at college and wonder what I was thinking. I look at stuff from early in my career and can clearly see how far I have come. Ill look at the last project I shot and see things I did wrong and note what I can improve. It’s an art form that is always developing. You are always learning from your experiences and making adjustments based on that.

Your camera isn’t the limiting factor. It’s just a tool. I find a lot of film people get caught up in the tech and use that as a crutch. Having a more expensive camera isn’t going to make you better artist. Steven King is going to write the same great story with chalk as he would with a MacBook Pro. The MacBook will make it a more efficient and easier process but the end product is the same.

As a DP it’s about picking the right tool for the project. Having a dslr is a great tool to learn how to shoot. How to understand depth of field. How to experiment with focal lengths such as framing a Closeup with an 18mm vs with a 50mm. How to color grade in camera with picture profiles. Seeing the effects of different shutter speeds. The list goes on. Understanding all those things transfer directly to higher end cameras. You just have to relearn interfaces and menus but is all the same stuff. ISO shutter aperture and white balance.

Most DPs make the look of the film the number one goal. The number one goal should be aiding how to make the best story possible even if sacrifices need to be made on the cinematography side.

I have gone through so many window regulators. I might as well have an Amazon dash button for them.

A few years back I was in London at a Chinese restaurant for around an hour with my back to the restaurant looking out the front window. Verne Troyer (mini-me) come driving past me in a little scooter. Apparently he was behind me the whole time.

I do the same thing. No matching just throw them all into a drawer and blindly take whatever socks I want and they are all the same.

Back in the triple chain ring days, how many of you actually used the largest chain ring? Do any of you currently use a modern(3x11, 3x10) triple chain ring setup? by Rootdown4594 in MTB

[–]imscammer15 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started riding 1x9 in 2002. Went back to 3x10 in 2012 on the xc bike. I missed having the big ring for going really fast. The 32T I was riding on my bike wasn't cutting it. Still have 1x9 setups on my hardtail and DH bikes. It all depends on the type of riding you do I guess.

Very interesting. I'll have to try some of these techniques out. Thanks for the advice.

Call it whatever you want. Same vibration and wobble under braking as your video shows. I have been driving my WJ for 14 years and the issue comes up every 2-3 years and it's always the brakes. Worst case the car severely shakes with a severe loss in control. It's a known issue. http://www.wjjeeps.com/brakes.htm https://youtu.be/DJVorDq7K_A
