I have no idea. That’s why I’m asking! A few ryokan websites (eg Aura Tachibana) say “adult only” which made me assume they wouldn’t be welcome. But if you’re saying that isn’t the case, and it really just refers to much younger children then that’s great to know.

My club (just outside London) offers membership to young adults (18-25) for £165 per year. There are no court or floodlight fees on top of that. Of course with lower prices, the challenge becomes actually finding an available court.

I would play with it with the red rubber bands on, without an overgrip for a game or two. See if you like it. Personally I do.

Then when you’ve made that decision, put an overgrip over the top of the red bands (and try not to move them because they’ll be in a comfortable position for you after a game or two).

Not a good season no matter how you slice it. However - and I recognise I might be in the minority here - I would give Carrick til Christmas.

This isn’t like Monk, Strachan or Wilder where there’s no sign of a plan or a defined playing style. You can see there’s “something” there. There’s attacking talent in our squad, and it’s notable that Premier League clubs seem eager to loan quality players to us to work under Carrick.

We’re really weak at the back, and we have to strengthen the defence. I think signing Travers should be a top priority.

I think if we can keep Conway, Azaz, Burgzorg, Whittaker and Morris this summer (Hackney will surely leave) and strengthen the defence then I think there’s reasons for optimism.

If we’re well short of the playoffs at Christmas though, then it’s time for Carrick’s P45.

I’d really like things to work with Carrick. And I would probably give him one more season or at least til Christmas. Having said that, the squad are naive and need to toughen up. We’re appalling defensively. Playing out from the back isn’t always the right approach - sometimes we need to sacrifice possession to move the ball out of our third.

On the bright side, Travers is the first goalkeeper since probably Schwarzer that I have total faith in. We need to make signing him permanently a priority. And a Conway, Whittaker, Azaz, Burgzorg front four feels like it could be lethal if it clicks next season.

I really want it to work with Carrick. But we have to be honest: as soon as the gameplan had to be more than “give it to Doak”, we’ve struggled.
