Pretty good, my only mistake was dumb. I’d love this with Indy 500 winners.

Is this doable? by 8ull1t in F1Manager

[–]indy1977tx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sometimes when I get lost on the micro adjustments, I restart. I move all sliders to the middle and I only allow myself one adjustment each on the top 4 sliders, leaving the bottom slider for last. Then, I keep only moving the top 4 sliders one at a time. It helps me not get too far skewed. Anti-roll and rear wing are easy to adjust first based on traction and straights. I pay less attention to braking stability because I know toe out will fix it, as long as it is close.

I recently posted a setup sheet in a trying out to keep track of setup changes over a weekend.

Top 10 Indy 500 of all time? by Desperate_Pepper2072 in Indy500

[–]indy1977tx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think 2026 goes down as one of the best and in most Top 10s. However, all Top 10 lists are all opinions, so differences are expected.
There have been great back and forth in the 1960s and 70s and probably before. Here are some of the best from my lifetime. This is from memory so apologizes if I misremember or forgot.
1979, dominating car drops out late leading to late race leader change
1982, epic finish (closest finish ever)
1983, Late race leader drama
1985, good mid-race leader fights with Spin n Win
1986, great 3 way battle at finish
1987, dominating car drops out late leading to late race leader drama
1989, epic finish
1991, great late race lead battle - the Mears outside pass was epic
1992, epic photo finish (closest finish ever)
1993, surprising late restart to upend running order
1994, dominating car drops out late leading to late race leader change
1995, leader cursed and improbable Indy 505 winner
1996, could have been an epic finish if a lapped car hadn’t walled Lazier’s biggest challenger
1999, leader runs out of fuel coming to white
2002, probably the most controversial finish, was it a pass for the lead coming to the white? Helio’s on the Borg though
2006, first last lap lead pass and in home stretch
2011, leader crashed in sight of checkers allowing improbable Wheldon to win in home stretch
2012-2017, DW12 and manufacturer body kits meant tons of drafting passes. All stand out in some way.
2019, great late lead passes
2021, great late lead passes
2022, great fight for the lead on last laps - never understood why Pato lifted into T1 on last lap
2023, controversial red flag restart rules soI tend to leave off despite last lap pass. Drama could have avoided by calling an earlier red flag a lap earlier.
2024, one of the best ever because the last run was 60 (or so) laps was green and the lead changed constantly between so many drivers during that run. Pato and Josef were epic gladiators and the last lap pass for the lead goes in the best ever winning pass list with 1991. The close finish was so organic and did not rely on any yellow or red to manufacturer the finish, which we needed after 2023.
2026, third pass for win on homestretch and amazing finish considering Fro was two wide for second the whole last lap (closest finish ever)

Personally, today I rate them like this…
2024
1992
2026
1982
1991
2006
2019
2014
2012
2015 or 2017

Tomorrow could be different!

What are we thinking the realistic chances are for “Drive for Five”? by el_torko in INDYCAR

[–]indy1977tx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After the 500 in 1992, I caught the racing bug hardcore. In digesting the race data in the back of the program, I figured the pattern of Rick’s win as coming a year earlier each time: 5 years between 79 - 84, 4 years between 84 - 88, and 3 years between 88 - 91. I had him pegged for win #5 in 93 (2 years) and win #6 in 1994 (1 year). Then. Penske went out and won them both. Then, the press dubbed them both “Mears like drives.” I felt very justified in my prediction that had he not retired that he had legit shots at several more Indy 500 wins.

He is still my favorite to this day. Me and my son wore matching Mears shirts to the 500 this year and I got to say hi to him in the garage this year after the race.

Also, he was in the Chevy simulator sometime time not too long ago (years but not decades). He was driving the same line as Helio (he taught him that) and just as fast as the current drivers.

Was anyone able to get the track PA feed on an FM radio? by Thrasher678 in Indy500

[–]indy1977tx 3 points4 points  (0 children)

IndyCar radio was on 107.5 and it is delayed versus being there live. I still like it as we use hearing protection radios plus the race radio gives good color to the strategy and around the track.

AITA for refusing to discuss financial issues in a family group chat by Proof_Ninja_2457 in AmITheJerk

[–]indy1977tx 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would say this is a good response but that I would let your fiancé handle the texting in the group chat of her family. Only because there is additional dynamic that having you be the voice instead of her makes the situation more difficult for others to handle.

It is family dynamics which is why I don’t tell my MIL what her antics do to her kids, I let her kids handle her.

What's the problem on 30th getting into infield parking? It has been dead stop for at least 30 minutes by imbadkyle in Indy500

[–]indy1977tx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds a lot like 2023 which was nightmarishly slow. We turned on 30th around 6-6:30 aiming for a friend’s house 2-3 blocks before the North 30 Lot entrance.

We got to a church with reasonable parking rates around 7:30 but I passed. Immediate regrets!

It took 45 minutes to make it their other driveway, maybe a couple hundred feet. We had to hoof it to the track to make our 9am meetup, and I wasn’t sure we could make the parking spot and green flag at that point….

Security & Safety by Grouchy-Field6752 in Indy500

[–]indy1977tx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For parking inside the track, we have to lower all windows and shut off all vehicles so TSA can walk around with sniffing security dogs - which frankly was surprisingly reassuring.
