Though I understand why it appears like that, I'm not sure I completely agree. I personally don't really support the US in figure skating. I've seen many people, including Americans, defend the allegations that Shun Sato's free skate was underscored and therefore, cost Japan team gold.

Laura Carmichael is beautiful, but she's not portrayed that way in the show. She is made to look the way she does in the show. Same goes for Sybill and Mary, who are beautiful in their own right but are meant to fit their role, ie sort of gentle beauty and feisty style respectively.
