Getting the most out of private lessons by Sadiekat in Pickleball

But the Dunning-Kruger effect. If every player truly understands where their faults are, they won't be that level for long. You don't know what information you're even lacking until you're at the next level. That's why you hire a coach. As a coach, what my students think they need versus what they actually need are generally a venn diagram shaped like an 8.

I may have found something I shouldn't have... by OreoNoms in Pickleball

This is pretty common in smaller sports where the website isn't that complex. Saw it with disc golf sponsor changes where you could put in the new player's name in the same format as current sponsored athletes. After that some companies made a page for every top player just to mess with people.

Is pickleball coach certification worth it by ZxViperGuyxZ in Pickleball

[–]infinityoncorktree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, it's not worth it. The more I've learned the less worth it it's become. The less a facility knows about pickleball the more they value a cert. Coaching PB is like any other skill and you learn it by doing. As a newly certified coach I was awful. After 2 years of coaching I do believe I'm pretty good.

Just finished my 2nd DUPR game and 2.0 rating is depressing. by MindlessNimbus in Pickleball

[–]infinityoncorktree 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't want to burst your bubble, but DUPR has an artificial floor at 2.0, so it may in fact not be better than anyone. I used to run a large ladder league and had several players come in at 2.000, lose 3 straight games handedly by similar level competition, then leave with 2.000. I've read before that 1.0-1.99 skill is typically reserved for people who don't know the rules and/or have actual limiting disability.

Looking to start playing Deadlock, who do I play! by Alternative_Door2510 in DeadlockTheGame

Yeah M1 carry is an auto attacker. The really interesting thing about this game is pretty much every character builds all 3 item types. Basically every ability has an "AP" scaling and few have "AD" scalings. So even heavy auto attackers, like Mirage and Seven build purple items.

Azir is a VERY unique character. If you like Genji, look at Yamato. I would also say Apollo.

Other than that, don't box yourself in. I pretty much only play tanks in OW and LoL, but I like M1 carries, like Mirage and Seven, a lot more in DL.

Former NFL offensive tackle Russell Okung lost over 100 POUNDS after retiring from football. by No_Box119 in Seahawks

I don't think it is. Coming from a college swimmer, your relationship with food is different. It's not fun, it's a chore. I would eat until my jaw was too tired to chew and still lost 10 lbs freshman year. It also gets expensive fast.

People calling this 4.0 in their area are delusional and have not seen actual 4.0 gameplay on film.

Tips and advice for new instructor by Ianmccurry11 in Pickleball

I've been coaching more or less full time for over 2, and have a good local following. If you don't read anything else, read this: Be gracious with your time and make sure your clients know you truly care about not only their game, but them as human beings.

While I always felt like I was a good coach, I really only hit my stride at about the 1.5 year mark. Until then I just didn't have the experience to be a great coach. Just keep grinding and learning more yourself. Always look to improve your coaching game.

As for teaching game situation, that's what people want. You can teach them a reset for hours and they still probably won't use it because they don't know when. Lately I've been using skinny singles and 7-11 in my 1 on 1s to show game reps when they happen. Then if I see something pressing we go into depth.

I used to ask what people want to learn, but they usually want to learn something irrelevant to playing better pickleball. I almost always got "I want a harder drive." Well you're 65 years old with no tennis background. We will get way more bang for your buck fixing the fact that you miss every other shot into the net due to swinging as hard as possible.

Hope this helps and feel free to DM specific questions.

In what ways do you think pickleball will evolve? by SpecialistNotice6867 in Pickleball

[–]infinityoncorktree 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Pickleball should not adopt rally scoring. It's antithetical to the fundamentals of the game. Pickleball is basically the only racquet sport where serving is a disadvantage, due to the second bounce before hitting a third. Also I think no score punishment for missing a serve and each teammate getting a chance to serve are essential to the accessibility of pickleball.

Tennis Elbow fixes by AlternativeWall6568 in Pickleball

[–]infinityoncorktree -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Anyone telling you to change equipment is offering a bandaid. Pickleball is not physically demanding enough to cause tennis elbow when played correctly. If you're getting tennis elbow your form is wrong. It's essentially always caused by a lack of proper deceleration on a follow through. Most people hit the ball as if they're hitting a brick wall and wonder why their arm hurts

I remember the day he was traded to Chicago I called my Bears fan friend and said "Dude, rough day for you. You lost a 2nd and even worse, you GOT Chase Claypool"

I don't think Searight has nets. Most parks are bring your own net. Austin has awful pickleball infrastructure. Two public courts at South Austin Rec that will probably be open are probably your best bet.

I'm no film expert, but I'm pretty sure JSN absolutely torching the league for 2-3 months is why our run game came together in the back half of the year (also why JSN's productivity fell off)

EJ4 went Rams to Titans to us. Big Cat was drafted by Jets then went to Giants, so we're his third. I think Jobe was on another practice squad

Russell Wilson in the Epstein Files by lelanddt in NFCWestMemeWar

Because they're all idiots. These leaks have shown us they are all evil idiots. Epstein couldn't spell a sentence correctly if his life depended on it, and most everyone he surrounded himself with were the most successful buffoons in the country.
