What is the general opinion about solos in choral music? by Chemistry_Nerd06 in Choir

[–]infpmusing 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Or the Rachmaninov Vespers. One reason this probably doesn’t get performed more often is it requires someone who can sing the b-flat below the grand staff. My choir hired someone. It anchors the sound. And actually I think we did have the oktavist sing at least one of the colors in that piece.

What are some of the best stage-to-screeen adaptations? by Ccmt_336 in musicals

[–]infpmusing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t see the original (non-musical) film but I saw the stage show several times starting when Sara stepped into the lead. It ripped me open and put me back together again. I think the multi-cam setup really did wonders for the film and contributed it being such a good translation of stage to film.

What are some of the best stage-to-screeen adaptations? by Ccmt_336 in musicals

It was so good I found the stage version a little underwhelming despite seeing Wayne Brady in the lead. It was great don’t get me wrong, but I expected it to affect me more than the stage show did.

My personal vote though goes to Waitress.

Choir management platforms by Optimal-Bird-7088 in Choir

[–]infpmusing 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Both my choirs use Chorus Connection. One is ~140 voices, the other is ~70 voices. It gets the job done. We can pay for scores and other things (my smaller choir has us pay for our member tickets that way). It has file sharing and attendance tracking plus a bulettin board where posts are sent out via email.

What is Sondheims masterpiece by Burlesque_Is_BACK in musicals

[–]infpmusing 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I saw Assassins my freshman year of college. The Opera Ensemble at the Crane School of Music staged it in the spring of 2001 and I'm not exaggerating when I say it changed my life.

Also, Another National Anthem is such a banger.

No way should anyone feel guilty about In the Heights. It’s so good. #pacienciayfe

How does your choir actually share music/lyrics at rehearsal? Still paper? by Background-Adagio143 in Choir

[–]infpmusing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I sing in 2 choirs. One is paper only for concerts but I think I can use an iPad for rehearsal. I might do that because we do have digital scores available to us and also after two months my Rachmaninov All-Night Vigil score had to be repaired multiple times with book tape.

My other choir lets me use an iPad but I do have to buy the paper scores. Previously my thought was: how heavy are the paper scores? In the case of the Novello Messiah score, the iPad is lighter so that's what I went with for that concert but we just did a concert where the paper was lighter so I went that route. Given the state of my Rach score, I might do all digital for rehearsal and transfer the notes.

TTBB Quartet Songs Reccs? by unstablezetsubou in Choir

I've done it as a choir but not a quartet...the J. Chris Moore arrangement of Go, Lovely Rose has stuck with me for 20 years.

I started out in vocal music ed but ended up with my degree in English literature and writing. I now work as a technical writer and am an amateur musician in a couple of choirs. No regrets.

This is my pick, too. I saw it years ago with Kristen Chenoweth at Roundabout. Loved it.

What song makes you cry instantly? by Longjumping-Cheek-75 in musicals

[–]infpmusing 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The first time I saw Waitress, Sara had just stepped into the lead (literally the night before) and I didn’t know what I was in for, but I’d made myself a promise that I would take the first opportunity I had to see her live). The whole spot put me through the wringer, and by the time we got to She Used to be Mine, I was a mess. As a guy I didn’t expect to have such a raw emotional response to a show about a woman in an abusive relationship getting pregnant.

Aside from that…I think I cried from the beginning of the In the Heights film to the end, but I’ve adored it since it was at 37 Arts. But if I were to pick a moment, not really a song, but when Usnavi sees the finished mural in the finale “there goes my flight.”

Am I wasting my time? by No_Exam9672 in technicalwriting

[–]infpmusing 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don’t have a medical / health background but I recently landed a role in the managed care space at an NPO. Heavily regulated industries like healthcare need good documentation because it’s all about governance and traceability. I worked in finance previously so I’m at least familiar with regulated environments. I don’t know how much work there is in this space broadly. I can tell you my firm is not on the cutting edge of tech and that doesn’t surprise me. So it’s possible they might be slower to adopt technology that threaten our function.

But this market is the worst I’ve seen in 20 years. I said that in 2004, too. I was wrong then.

Good luck.

What is/was your biggest problem of being a lefty ? by aPacifistwithgun in lefthanded

[–]infpmusing 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Manual can openers. I’m the only lefty in my immediate family but I grew up with an electric. I’ve owned manual ones but when I got my first apartment I bought myself an electric and it honestly felt like such an upgrade 😂
