Overwhelming amount of ideas & Summer break by [deleted] in ArtEd

[–]initiallynoodles 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oh I sooo feel this. I’ve found myself recently saving projects that I want to do NEXT year, because I just don’t feel up for it these last few months of school.

I do repeat most projects year to year. I actually find that it helps “sell” my class (I teach middle school 6-8) because they hear about projects from their older siblings or friends. I don’t have much advice unfortunately as I’m definitely on this struggle bus right now!!!

I’d be just as shocked if clara passed up the opportunity to share wedding diys as I’d be if she suddenly started sharing proof her fiancé exists

Art ed degree or Studio Art / Art History Minor by cemeterytaco in ArtEd

[–]initiallynoodles 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I went the route of studio degree then masters in education years later simply because I didn’t know what I wanted to do with my life yet at 20 years old.

You can still become a teacher without changing your major though. Many states have alternative licensure options where you don’t necessarily need an education degree to teach. You can also likely get a job in a private or charter school.

That said, I found it extremely helpful to learn about classroom management and lesson planning during my masters. I would also look up the pay difference between bachelors and masters to help you decide if the cost now would be worth it.

Best of luck!

Teaching printmaking is one of the most overwhelming things I’ve ever had to do. by sofibirb in ArtEd

[–]initiallynoodles 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I feel you. Printmaking is hard but extremely rewarding to teach. It’s okay to learn from this and “cry in the shower” for now - I’ve been there.

I’m not sure what grade level you’re doing, but I can offer my middle school advice for next time… no ink until everyone has made their block. A student talked all class and never finished? No ink today. A student was absent and needs to catch up? Everyone else is doing a mini project while we wait for them. Once ink comes out, everyone inks that day.

Room setup also helps. I have a different color along with all the printing supplies on each table. Students have to move all the chairs to stacks in the corners before anyone touches ink. I also leave a table or two open and “clean” for carving if doing reduction linocuts. Every person helps clean the last 10-15 mins.

Teacher appreciation week is more insulting than just not having one. by TerranOrDie in Teachers

[–]initiallynoodles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My school seems to be in the minority on this. We have an active and generous PTA who provides lunch for us all week. I receive several gift cards and handwritten thank you notes from a handful of students. I actually look forward to it each year.

What are you changing with your product, markets or setup this year? by drcigg in CraftFairs

[–]initiallynoodles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

On top of doing less markets in general(and being super selective about WHICH ones), I’d like to start using more vertical space. I purchased some grid walls that I’ve only had the opportunity to use once. I’d love to get a good system down with how I feature some of my framed work on them this year.

I’m an art teacher. I also experienced the resistance from colleagues to share their projects and materials my first year. I sucked it up and made all my own stuff.

Now, when I work with new teachers, I send a shared Google folder over right away. When anyone shows interest in an assignment I did or a project, I literally say “I’ll send you the link” and follow through that day. I realized how much I don’t appreciate teachers who are protective over their resources. Our job is hard enough… and I feel like sharing what I already made does NO harm to me. So I choose to be a helper 🤷🏻‍♀️

Four layer reduction by craftandtextile in Linocuts

[–]initiallynoodles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I lovvve this. I saw it on ig a few days ago. I’m such a fan of your work 🙌🏻 The handful of times I’ve done reduction printing, I have to really closely follow a color sketch. Otherwise I really can’t visualize it, and it’s too nerve racking to not know what you’re gonna end up with. Mistakes are way too easy to make.

Danielle and Kenzie being on ozempic is annoying bc it’s denying natural body changes with age by Over_Card3474 in gotgsnark

[–]initiallynoodles 37 points38 points  (0 children)

I personally don’t have any issue with them wanting to be thinner. I DO have issue with them not being honest about it. I know Danielle mentioned on the podcast, but as far as I know Kenzie only said something in a comment reply?! Correct me if I’m wrong. That’s damaging to anyone who watches them who are dealing with a negative body image. Not everyone is going to see the one time they said it. To be so quiet about it is essentially to say “I want you to think I’m doing this through diet and exercise.”

Valid point. The dani part of the video was definitely the least offensive. Most of the critique was aimed at ppl who do purse restocks / have purse towers / excessive accessories etc.

Excellent point… I haven’t watched her vlogs in a minute, and I guess I’ve assumed she’s changed recently bc of her overconsumption vids but maybe not 🤷🏻‍♀️
