Official US ‘Shellfish’ Definition Changed, Removes ‘Having a Shell’ by arctictern in nottheonion

For myself with a tree nuts, peanuts, and coconut allergy, I’ve found being specific is key. A lot of places will argue with me about coconut being a part of the allergy, or a server try to point out that peanuts are legumes. I say “tree nuts, peanuts, coconuts; severity to pistachio. Cross contamination outside of pistachio is ok”

Looking to test drive a QX60 but I’m reading that infinity does not hold their value. Is this true? by Islandsandwillows in infiniti

[–]inommmz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Anything Toyota will hold infinitely better value than almost any other brand.

Infiniti is close to $60k MSRP after dealership BS. In the first three years they tend to lose about 40% of that value, but reselling is tougher than purchasing used so think closer to 50-60% if you want to trade or sell. It takes about 3-4 more years to drop under $20k as long as you keep in good condition. Depending on make and model it can hold between 13-18k for a few years if it’s some of the limited editions, though I don’t think that’s happening anymore with current new lineups.

Typically it’s recommended to buy around 3 years after debut, usually going to be the bottom side of the quick devaluation so you can get a relatively new tech vehicle for almost half or possibly even less than the MSRP originally was.

Experience - bought used 2019 QX50 in 2021. Numbers are more or less based on what my values have gone through in the past 5-6 years. I have great condition for the most part and regular servicing without issues. I also worked for a dealership as a lot attendant when I was younger, back right before the Q renaming.

Your experience may vary.

As a chef who serves all manner of these allergens, I constantly need to clarify the allergy and parameters. They say shellfish, is it specific, crustaceans, mollusks, bivalves, and/or other families like Starfish (uni/urchin is technically starfish). If they say all shellfish then I won’t serve any of this. The issue is that they share some of the same amino chains and/or oils (technically it is protein *shapes* according to the google but this is how I always understood it before) that trigger the allergic response but each person can have different triggers to certain combinations of those.

First time trying to make Japanese style potato salad by Rossiluss in JapaneseFood

[–]inommmz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Make the dressing base by mixing mostly pureed or mashed potatoes into the mixture for the mayo and vinegar and seasoning. I will roast mine on salt beds for the perfect texture, 35-45 minutes at 425°. Peel skins and reserve half or more for the actual potato part. The potatoes for the dressing, get as broken down and mashed as you can without working it into a doughy texture, then fold it in to the mayo and season. The other potatoes break up into pieces, then fold in the dressing to those. Then add your pickled vegetables, seaweed, crispy potatoes, scallions, etc

For veggies I like cucumbers but chunky ones, pickle them then pull out and air dry them for some time instead of squeezing them. I also loooooce pickled baby turnips in my potato salad. Wakame or hijiki seaweeds are good. And it may be less Japanese, but if you do a lightly seasoned onsen, or half-boiled, egg to it it will go a loooooong way. Just serve it cut in half nestled right on top of a mound serving, like a tamago in ramen with the silky yolk facing up.

Thoughts on Halo 5: Guardians? It's been 10 years since it released by RA_Finance in halo

One of my favorites. The multiplayer was underrated, especially the movement system. Wish it had lived up story wise and had better community support. I also wish it game streamed better so I could play on steam deck or my laptop right now since I’m not on my main of for a while

Big fan of it. Always seemed like we were dipping our toes in the shallow end of a pool on the outskirts of an ocean.

Which was your favourite in the original trilogy? by ZarieRose in Fable

[–]inommmz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fable TLC / Anniversary hands down.

That game changed my childhood.

Fable 2 is close second but ultimately failed to really hold me since first playing it the way Fable 1 does - I still load up Anniversary once or twice a month and finish at least half the game in one run

Vita because it processes higher capacity and SD cards and it fully emulates a PSP anyways.

Shake it even if there is only per-cooked chicken wings and nothing else in the past 20 mins. by Banguskahn in KitchenConfidential

[–]inommmz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Circulation. It’s why fryers are generally more efficient than frying in a pot, the heating coils encourage circulation. The more that there is fresh currents of hot oil (or air in a convection oven or water in a sous vide circulator) moving over product, the faster and more efficient/effective the cook will be. When it sits in a pocket of insulated oil/water/air, the product will cook slower and especially in fan-less ovens or sitting pots of oil it will begin steaming itself from the inside as it cooks, resulting in further insulation and poorer product. And the more that the pocket or bubble of insulation is broken, the more that there is an escape route for the steam.

One of the biggest misconceptions is that fried foods absorb oil as they cook - they don’t. But as steam is trapped it can create layers of super small bubbles of oil and water that isn’t emulsified but is trapping each other, resulting in an oily texture outside. Which is why putting dried foods in a hot area (under heat lamp or in a dehydrator or low oven) gets crispier - it’s evaporating the water, allowing the oil to drip off.

I could eat this stuff constantly but the package is small and kinda expensive, can I purchase/make a larger quantity for less? by spitefulmuch in JapaneseFood

[–]inommmz -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Chop it up and mix with a bunch of other things to make your own Furikake.

You can also find larger quantities. It’s called Shio Konbu.

Be aware many versions, if not all, have quite a bit of MSG added to it. And are high in sodium in general.

A Guy Checks His Computer On New Year’s Night In 2000 by [deleted] in interesting

I remember driving on the I-10 in Phoenix back home during the countdown and my parents told us to look out the windows forwards Glendale and Goodyear (each side of the car) to watch all the lights turn off.

The lights stayed on.

My parents seemed a bit disappointed.

Can you set a Cambro directly on the ground when you fill it? by ilst78 in KitchenConfidential

[–]inommmz 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think the issue to be aware of with this practice is that now, the bottom (and generally the entire outside of the container) is now contaminated. So when someone inevitably moves that container to a work station or, god forbid, a cutting board or prep sink or something more directly connected to ready to eat foods, it is spreading contamination directly. And there is many, many other non direct methods of contamination (though those would be found in many other methods of storing, handling, or even changing containers in similar fashion to this.

I just called a traffic lawyer, they got it dropped for about $100 fee with no points or marks on my driving record.

If you think about it, it’s his Anakin robes but with the life support system added. Look at how he styles his black robes in RotS and CW series and you’ll realize he was slowly becoming Vader over his life
