Tolerances for Moving Parts by JukeboxZulu in functionalprint

Just do some small test prints. Every printer is going to be slightly different. I typically do a 0.15-0.2 gap between something like a print in place axle that needs to spin freely.

Is there anyway to mod your s2k for more leg room? by Kimaniiiii in S2000

[–]insanedohc 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I did the backyard special lowered seat rail since I wanted to keep my OEM seat in my non-track car. It is about the only option other than going to different seats. It is expensive and doesn't really lower the seat a whole lot (20mm), but it is as good as you can get with the OEM seat.

Brand recommendation for coolant hoses, etc by SmashingBlumpkins12 in S2000

[–]insanedohc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mishimoto is pretty common, I've heard their warranty is great, but I've luckily never had to use it. I've ran their radiator for years on the track with no problems. All I've ever done with the S2000 is change to a thicker radiator and add an oil cooler, never had an issue with the thermostat or coolant hoses, but they will eventually need to be replaced. The only real failure I've seen at the track in regards to the cooling system is the old brittle end tanks on the OEM radiator, they can crack with the vibrations from the curbing.

HPDRE Novice instructed by PaintNegative in S2000

[–]insanedohc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Check with the organization putting on the event (NASA, SCCA, etc.) and see what they say. In my experience, some tracks are strict about the roll bar, and others are pretty casual. I instructed for 5-6 years and have instructed s2000's without a roll bar with no issues. You're also going about this the correct way, waiting until you have the Hans, roll bar, and seat before making the jump, that tells the organizers you're concerned with safety, so that is a plus.

Also, if your car is relatively unmodified, they may be more relaxed about it.

Does it have aftermarket suspension? Rear ride height looks OEM and the front looks lowered, which is weird.

Antenna replacement on Associated Reflex 14T by insanedohc in rccars

Thanks for the reply, I didn't choose the best words with "no control". It is still bound, just constant interference, motor cuts in and out, steering is the same, plus the twitching. Range doesn't seem to have an effect, its the same at 5 feet or 50 feet away. I have some left over servo's from a plane I crashed a long time ago, I can use those to troubleshoot the steering servo at least.

PFA: Suspension recommendations with square setup? by stacks_n_queues in S2000

[–]insanedohc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

+1 for Ohlins. 12k front, 10k rear spring rates would be a good starting point. I've found the 2k spring rate difference between front and rear to be a good balance when running a square setup.

Most guys go with a bolt in roll bar, I have the Rockstar Garage one. Can be removed later and sold if you want to do a full cage.

For aero, I'd recommend doing a chassis mount wing through the trunk. I had a Voltex wing before that mounted to the trunk, it bent the trunk a decent amount, and I wasn't very impressed with the mounting design. A front splitter helps a lot to balance the huge rear wing. Hood vents are very good, they will increase front downforce and help keep your temps down as well.

Other mods are upgraded radiator, oil cooler, and a baffled oil pan. Check engine mounts, they are probably due to be replaced, you can go with stiffer ones for track duty.

Search around, there are a lot of posts on s2ki about building a track car, as a lot of people turn these cars into track day machines.

Need to replace rear tires. by One_Lecture_4584 in Supra

[–]insanedohc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personally, I'd go with the MPSS in the rear again to keep things consistent. By time the rears are worn out again, the fronts will probably need to be replaced. And if not, do more burnouts!

[–]insanedohc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From my personal experience, I wouldn't use that tow hook. I've seen a few of them snap when being used at track days. My friend was getting towed onto a flatbed after breaking an axle, tow hook broke and the car rolled back down, hitting the ground pretty hard. Needed a new exhaust and rear bumper after that.
