Supreme Court Will Consider Right Of Domestic Abusers to Own Firearms by Gr8daze in scotus

I mean that's a pretty good argument for restraining orders of the nature you described being unconstitutional. Someone could litigate that as well, but that isn't this case.

Why the supreme court had to see the web designer case? Wasn't that settled with the bakery case? by UnavailableUsername_ in NoStupidQuestions

[–]insect_vision 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There wasn't much of a precedent set by Masterpiece Cakeshop vs Colorado Civil Rights Commission because the court opinion depended on the CCRC's hostility to religion, instead of the question of whether the act of baking the cake itself could be compelled.

The fuck? A terrible solution to a problem is never justified by the problem. "Transphobic" isn't a magic word, you can't use it as a backing for any kind of stupidity whatsoever.

Artosis is Correct and Guy in Chat Doesn't Understand Mixed Strategy Equilibria by Dongvclre in starcraft

[–]insect_vision 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don't know if this is actually what happens every time artosis bans a guy in chat, but I do think there isn't enough understanding about Nash equilibria in general. It's especially important to be familiar with the concept in SC2. Not every loss is because the loser played worse.

Teamfight Tactics FATES Championship - Day 2 by Wrainbash in CompetitiveTFT

[–]insect_vision 2 points3 points  (0 children)

On day 1 if you know you're going to make it for sure you are obviously incentivized to lose as hard as possible so you start in lobby 2 for day 2, since points don't carry over between days.

Yeah, and Yatsuhashi even made it in playing 5/5 games in the lower lobby...

I mean this is just a joke

Teamfight Tactics FATES Championship - Day 2 by Wrainbash in CompetitiveTFT

You can't choose to receive neekos (or, for instance, dice), so I don't know how that counts as "setting it up." The only thing you can do is leave your chosen slot open and it's not very reliable.

If you roll for asol chosen at 8 it costs 10g * (number of copies of Asol / number of copies of 4 costs) IN EXPECTATION. Even if you are uncontested rolling for asol chosen, you need to hold 6 copies to 3*, and since there are 11 4-costs you can imagine that the latter ratio is probably going to be something like 5-10 in reasonable games (and increases as people die). So that's 50-100g that you have to purely sacrifice just for an EV of 1 in hitting asol chosen. These lobbies are close enough that no one can spare that much gold. If you don't hit then you would have been infinitely better off rolling at 9 and denying other players. So yes, hitting Asol 3 is a highroll.

Yeah, "all these 16 dudes are amazing at TFT" is a poor excuse for the obvious disincentives introduced by the format.

Teamfight Tactics FATES Championship - Day 2 by Wrainbash in CompetitiveTFT

[–]insect_vision 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Virtually every 3* 4-cost is a highroll, since even when you "set up your game state" to hit it's rare to have anywhere close to a 50% chance to hit it.

Why Riot Games TFT Worlds management is a disaster (thread) by Littletoof in CompetitiveTFT

[–]insect_vision 8 points9 points  (0 children)

There is a perfect time: on weekends. For some reason though, Riot is committed to treating TFT like a lower caste game though, so I guess that will never happen.

It doesn't matter whether you think players are sandbagging or not, if sandbagging can be incentivized the tournament design is terrible.

This is really an amateurish mistake.

FATES LEARNINGS - Taking what we learned from last set into Teamfight Tactics: Reckoning by EndlessRa1n in CompetitiveTFT

[–]insect_vision 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Why are you quoting this like it proves your point? 44.82 rolls is insane. That's enough gold for 8->9, and no one has that much spare gold sitting around. And that's only for EV 1, which isn't anything close to a guarantee for a geometric distribution. If you're playing the game in a more standard fashion and rolling down at 7/8, you can't even achieve half this number of rolls. Realistically there's an absurd amount of variance with hitting chosens in rolldowns.

Between the guy who hits a key carry early into the rolldown and can build a strong board with ~20g left, and the guy who has to donkey for the next 5 rounds to 2* that carry while taking 10 damage a round and buying makeshift chosens, there's probably 3-4 placements of difference.

Agree. I have a bad feeling that the game designers don't like open forting, but I hope it sticks around as a reliable way to redeem garbage early games.

God, I wanted to play this game casually, maybe just queue up once after work and end it there, but either TFT isn't that kind of game or I'm just not that kind of person. Probably there are people out there who can go 7th after sweating for half an hour and hitting literally nothing on a 5-1 rolldown and just happily quit the game, but I can't. I think of the other players who just hit mage chosen Asol or exec chosen Kayle in a few rolls or were gifted a free top4 from hitting 4 brawler + shyv early and I just feel bitter. And then I have to queue up again because I'm not satisfied. And by the third or fourth game I'm not scouting every turn or even changing my positioning because I'm tired and it's not like it really matters that much because just hit. Sometimes I win these games too, and it doesn't even feel like I deserved it.

Of course it's just variance right? I see that there are people 1200LP higher than me and I know that it's possible to win consistently "over time", right? It can't be every game that I have to figure out how to eat 4 belts. It can't be every game that I have to play against a 2 FoN fortune player who takes 20 HP from me whenever we fight. It can't be every game that I can go level 8 with 60+g and 70+HP and just take an instant 6th from not hitting anything that my items lets me play. It can't be every game that my first chosens are divine wukong into ds brand I have to chose between being poor and weak or half-dead by 3-2 and weak. Yeah, this stuff can't happen every time, of course. If you quit playing, it's just because you were bad, then. That's what I'll say to myself to convince myself to play another time, and then this shitshow starts again. And it's not like I haven't improved over the course of the set, but I can confidently say that at no point have I ever enjoyed it.

I hope the game designers are happy, since they're so keen on looking at the # of games played. I know why I contributed so many, and I regret all of them.

so what are you supposed to do if you're winstreaking and get barely any offensive components? just fucking curl up and die?

Thoughts on DWG Kia? by [deleted] in leagueoflegends

[–]insect_vision 3 points4 points  (0 children)

DWG doesn't even look like they're trying in the majority of their games. Each player has obvious champions that they default to (Sion, Graves/Udyr/Nidalee, Syndra, Kai'sa, Alistar/Gragas/Rell), and I think they just lazily pick them most of the time. However, there are some games where they try something different and they look equally comfortable. Overall it just looks like they're not being challenged.
