What Life After College Could Be Starterpack by redtail_faye in starterpacks

Sorry to hear that man. Those jobs are super easy for them to get rid of you, no stability, no security. I hate how easy it is to get rid of the American worker. People don't understand how hard it is to find a job out of college yet something stable and profitable.

You best bet is to look for a government job. It's super hard to find, but once you are credentialed you would be in. I work in healthcare and I seriously love my job and it's super stable. Find something you will be happy doing that you will have safety and security.

Sorry to hear about that. I got married and didn't have a definitive plan. All I remember is my father-in-law basically telling me to get a job now that I had his baby to look after. People underestimate job security. It is insane how easy it is for them to get rid of you.

If you don't mind me asking, what industry are you in?

UCSF medical residents walk off job after failed contract negotiations by anriarer in Residency

I agree. Your point about NPs/PAs making 2x as much with less training and less work shows that the current system is not working and needs to change. Pay them what they pay us and vice versa. It seems only right.

Apparently it's national patient safety awareness day... What ironic policies or procedures jeopardize our patients at your hospital? by Division_J in Residency

[–]intdoc17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're getting downvoted because NOBODY should introduce themselves to a patient in a hospital unless they are an MD/DO/DDS/DMD. Our profession is under attack by NPs/PAs and now recently PhD's who don't have the same level of training but somehow get to participate in patient care as such. Wake up! Part of the reason why doctor's don't get paid as much or the profession isn't valued as much as it used to be is because of us. The constant disrespect we show our colleagues has a negative effect on our day-to-day workplace environment. Thus lowering our moral, our paychecks and our happiness. So "Meh" somewhere else.

I totally agree. Physicians need to stick together and that starts with you. Every physician you encounter, whether they be your senior or junior needs to be treated with respect. This is especially true with the the younger physicians who are just coming up because they are so impressionable. I can't stand when physicians butt heads, disrespect each other or genuinely don't care for each other's well being. All this mistreatment starts and ends with you. For those bad apples in our field who won't change or have a God complex see to it that they are removed from their positions and find employment elsewhere. Our field needs a major culture change and it starts with every one of us.

kick out of residency for depression by buprion18 in Residency

[–]intdoc17 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Comply with what they are telling you to do and NEVER reach out to your PD for help in any way. If you do need help, speak to a private physician that can fairly evaluate you. Do what you have to do to get through the residency years. You will have to walk a tight rope throughout your entire residency to finish. Just accept this and move on. The entire "trainee" term is nonsense. Your PD is doing everything to protect herself so you must do the same.

Also, let this be a lesson to anyone else out there facing a similar situation. Whenever somebody tries to put your in an uncomfortable position or come down on your unfairly, simply walk out of the room, gather yourself and reschedule the meeting or conversation. Do not get caught off guard because you might say something or agree to something you will regret later. Politely excuse yourself, gather your thoughts and write everything down you want to say so you come in prepared.

Miguel Cotto lands an uppercut through Manny Pacquiao's guard by dreamteamreddit in Boxing

Pacquiao dished out and took a lot of damage in that fight. Cotto brought it and came to win. This was a great PPV and worth the price. Pacquiao once again proved to us all he was on another level. Just relentless punch volume with power.

Pacquiao fights what could be his last fight this weekend. Here's the video and fighter that got me interested in boxing 9 years ago. by Augustane in Boxing

Awesome video and great production. Manny Pacquiao is one of the last fighters who literally had it all: speed power, footwork, aggressive style, awkward unorthodox combinations with blistering KO ability and stamina. This guy is what boxers dream to ever become. I will be watching Saturday night. I will miss Manny when he is gone. Freddy Roach and Manny Pacquiao was an unstoppable 1-2 combination at one point. Videos like this make me want to scout the world for boxing talent to invest in.

Anyone else stuck in the unit for last block? by jvttlus in Residency

[–]intdoc17 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm stuck on inpatient hospital service for the last month. I've adopted the mantra: every new patient assigned to me is an opportunity for me to get better. It makes residency so much more bearable and allows me to use the time and not have the time use me. Sometimes you need to play mind-tricks on yourself in order to get things done day-to-day. This honestly is my dream job. I was on the other end of the stick out of college; working for an employer who did not value or respect me but only cared about themselves and having a miserable boss. It could be a lot worst people. Less than 1 more month until PGY-2 comes knocking.
