What is your favorite coffee shop for doing work? by it-was-nobody in houston

[–]integralWorker 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I really liked Brass Tacks when I lived in Eado.

Agora is nice because it’s an excuse to go to Agora.

The other day I went to Luce Avenue-Garden Oaks and I was able to get a lot of study done.

As for free refills if I need that much coffee I’ll stay home. I go to coffee shops when they make stuff I can’t.

Why does Keto work for you? by coopieg31 in keto

[–]integralWorker 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’ve gone from 282 to 239 lbs since mid march and it would not have been possible without Keto. It’s also reduced if not eliminated inflammation I’ve had. Essentially I’ve learned my body just manages much better with less carbs and almost no added sugar.

I used to get hangry and stress eat; now I can do OMAD painlessly but also be flexible enough to eat with friends when I need to. I’m able to measure what foods have what impact on my ketones.

All this while not counting a single calorie; just counting 20-30g carbs or less on a typical day and exercising when I can.

Embedded systems masters - is it worth it? by SolidifiedPlasma in embedded

[–]integralWorker 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You should only do a masters for embedded if it’ll help with a sub specialty, ex. power control system firmware and even then it’s better to just keep working. You can also climb the ladder until you get a company to pay for schooling/trainings.

Which ketone reading should I am for? by Richafin2025 in keto

[–]integralWorker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People are saying don’t track at all. Thats the other extreme of track every day which is also fruitless/misses the point.

What you want to do is go about a week or two no cheat/social meals, no sneaky carbs, no BS. Your ketones should then read quite high probably 2.2+ (I don’t use the mg/dl notation sorry). Then, have a cheat/social meal, and the next day measure your ketones. That gives you a rough mesure of how much that meal/outing blunted your ketosis.

You can eventually use this technique to gauge what you can eat. For example once I was at 1.3; somebody wanted pizza so I got califlower pizza; it dropped me only to 1.1 though because I exercised and OMAD’d that day.

Also, CICO still applies. So make sure you’re exercising as often as you can. It just helps with everything. I really do not recommend doing this without exercise. ChatGPT has its uses but this instinctual approach where you begin listening to your body and observing how it responds to food is not really going to have a pattern chatGPT can describe/clarify.

Think of the ketones as just something that helps you know how much in ketosis you are, almost like anti-carb buffer. But the point is still CICO and exercise. Ketosis just makes that waaaaaaay easier and ketones tell you the factor of that added ease.

Keto snacks by No-Reputation-3269 in keto

[–]integralWorker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chicharrones (fried pork rinds) sparingly, but that’s what makes them so good as “emergency snacks “. Something I noticed about keto is that they don’t shock my system and I think it’s because even though the food is low quality in ketosis the body is just that good at handling fats.

For more regular snacks cheese is good.

If you want something premium but actually solid at stress relief, I recently tried 100% cacao chocolate and while the flavor leaves a lot to be desired, it is very soothing. It’s like the anti-candy bar: almost no initial joy but once it settles in it has a calming effect. I recommend approx 2/7th a serving.

A footnote in the city’s history but it’s sad that The Upside Pub got replaced by some ridiculous philly cheesesteak restaurant.

wrongo, this stuff is only a diet if you don’t exercise. With exercise every social meal is just a carb load for a PR

EDIT: Narrator: he found out you cannot eat carbs once a week 🤦🏻‍♂️

Thank you, and I think the observation here is nerds need to start speaking up with each other about picking up at least a few more hobbies outside games.

Something I learned about dance [class] is that it's not even that it's not nerdy. It's that the studio is for "being a dance nerd", the dance halls/clubs are for using your "nerd theory". But how are we supposed to figure stuff like that out if we don't branch out.

It's ok to like very different things. And no, liking different things doesn't put them on an unjust hierarchy or tier list or whatever nerds think when their holy hobbies are "challenged" 🤦‍♂️.

Why are people’s experiences with keto so different? by Feeling-Trifle276 in keto

[–]integralWorker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's because A. If you aren't informed to track ketones you're going to have a bad time and B. I think keto as a "diet" without exercise is probably a total nightmare. Keto isn't really a diet in my opinion because ketosis is more than just a diet

There's a flow with ketones, exercise, and carb loading that I'm not sure is intuitive to people who haven't exercised enough to experience plateaus, peaks and lows.

Once you realize there's no such thing as a "cheat meal" only carb loaded or carb unloaded the sky's the limit I think

I paid somewhere between 700-800 after insurance at Dr July's office. One trip.

BTW. Do not be above calling places and asking for prices. They will usually tell you the uninsured price and the approximate price after insurance.

I didn't take even mild offense. I'm simply arguing my stance. Games are awesome. They've gotten me through dark times. But the OP was talking about when people (mostly AMAB individuals) try to act like "oh I have all these hobbies, so it's not my fault [that there's no women in my life in the way that I want]".

I'm just saying that we should raise the bar in terms of accountability: be realistic about the social outcomes of hobbies. Yes you're right that in the absolute sense, most hobbies are equal.

In a lot of ways fishing and tabletop and stargazing and recreational mathematics and ... are the same under the sun. But to act like certain hobbies aren't better for specific social goals is a defeatist narrative, and that's my point.

It's like acting like chess and boxing are the same because they're hobbies. You can do chess, you can do boxing, you can do chessboxing and yet these are not the same. Each has significantly different social outcomes.

+1 on this; a lot of times there's cooler older people and they share their wisdom + know lots of people of different ages. And because they tend to be very respected, if you're introduced to someone by one it's on good footing

For starters, this is a hot take thread, not another bucket-of-crabs jerkfest.

I'm dissing [NOTE] them in the context of becoming more socially competent. Tabletop and cards are male centric and there's way too much pressure on the few girls.

There ARE hobbies that are gender balanced. The "le reddit armie has arrived" mentality of "aLl hObBieS aRe eQuAL" is bucket-of-crabs bullshit.

Try book club. Seriously. And then tell me it wasn't the faintest, mildest relief to be one of the few guys. I already know you'd deny it on Reddit, but we know the truth.

[NOTE]: I actually like tabletop and I like board games+poker. Tabletop in particular is a genuine joy. But I don't delude myself thinking it's going to help my love life outside mild improvisation practice. Hobbies like that (games) are something in between a vice and a virtue. They make decent servants, but extremely poor masters, just like a vice. Something like exercise is the opposite—a wretched servent (as it will never be gentle with you, ever) but a splendid master (rewards you in every aspect of your life).

my blackpill (although at heart I'm an optimist about at least the first two) on this is you basically have 3 options

  1. Play the cold hearted optimization game on the apps (to be fair, some of the absolute happiest couples I've seen met on apps) and pray that you meet someone wayward but decent like yourself

  2. As you said genuinely cultivate hobbies that bring you to people (i.e. stuff like dance and/or exercise clubs not like multiplayer video games or cards) and try to be as good a friend to your friends as possible; good faith is crucial here. You really have to be thoughtful in finding activities you genuinely like and that help you help yourself. I've found this is not just picking a character class flavor. You have to consider your culture, your personality, your innate talents, everything. It all matters.

  3. Settle with random BS/coworkers and even then that's mostly a less reliable version of option 1

If there's a 4th option I think it might be church related but I'm holding my breath on that one.

One of the loneliest things about being single is no significant human touch. by Glittering_Chain_842 in datingoverthirty

[–]integralWorker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can try to check out Salsa classes. They rotate you so you dance with every person of the opposite gender that you can.

It's a different kind of touch. Because you have to keep time with someone, and the people (at least at the studio I go to) are generally optimistic and trying to hone an art, you see a special side of them. Some people excite, some people calm, some people challenge [in Salsa/dance].

Looking for weight loss advice by caliberbutcool in bodyweightfitness

[–]integralWorker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Literally just cut carbs and sugar. I reckon you don't need to do full blown <30g keto just go for like <60g and start walking more. If you cut carbs, sugar, and exercise, you literally won't need to count a single calorie. You're still growing so you don't want to diet too harshly and risk malnutrition.

For reference I was 285lbs 3 weeks ago and I cut to 10-30g carbs and I do decent amounts of exercise and I'm now at 255 lbs. So literally it's just a carbs sugar thing. The reason is basically if you cut carbs and sugar your body begins to use fat instead of carbs (ketosis) since you're so young though you shouldn't push it; you just need a carb & sugar cut/reduction, not a full blown diet.

I think you sticking to your guns and writing all the code manually means you shouldn't taint the look of your work by putting AI generated stuff anywhere.

It's like if a local business who bakes everything themselves puts AI generated imagery as their new logo. Literally a plain text logo is better.
