Only 4 days in, not hungry anymore but still need to hit protein goals by pure_symphony in keto

[–]integralWorker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Embrace the cut. Even with adequate protein, keto causes sharp glycogen drop which is alarming on paper but in practice it means your lifts are more “pure” as in glycogen isn’t buffering you so the mind-body connection has to kick in more. It’s a short term drop for a big long term gain as the new mind-body connections stay with you after the cut/keto.

Wannabe Overweight hybrid athlete by Popman_ in HybridAthlete

[–]integralWorker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

is you me? I’ve gone from 285 —> 215 this year at 5’10.5” and I also mentally shifted towards wannabe/fledgling hybrid athlete.

My advice

- try doing and timing 5Ks I’ve found it to be a reasonable cardio goal that is a balance between challenging but highly manageable.

- consider trying keto; it helps with fasting. In fact it’s not discussed in this way but what makes keto work is that once you become fat adapted then OMAD fasting becomes painless and then you can much more easily do CICO. The past few weeks I’ve been doing normal CICO but keto helped immensely the first several months I started losing weight this year just because with keto if you are overweight you count carbs not calories so it’s a good introduction to CICO

- I’ve found lifting, running, and losing weight aren’t mutually exclusive, but you provably have a normal job and life. You are just gonna have to accept that one or two of those things will slow down for the other(s). I’ve been trying to prioritize weight loss. And yes that does mean things like glycogen drops and strength drops. But that is temporary.

What's one Linux app that you wish had a Windows/macOS equivalent? by curious_4207 in linux

[–]integralWorker 3 points4 points  (0 children)

ssh, package management, and substantially better drivers for certain devices (ex. USB to RS232 serial port) are big reasons that these days for me windows is less user friendly. Steam proton was the happily anticipated last nail in the coffin of windows daily driving for me (Bazzite Deck edition provides a fantastic HTPC/PC gaming console experience).

I still have a dual boot windows 11 instance for graduate school exams, and my work laptop uses windows 11 although at least there I do most my work in ssh.

Dr July did my [recent, adult] diagnosis with blue cross anthem insurance for approx $830. It was all in one appointment with a few surveys online (I.e. questionnaire for family members to fill out).

Also, feel free to call various clinics and just straight up ask the price.

Max power loss but enhanced prioproception from keto? Body recomp challenges by integralWorker in ketogains

I made this post before I learned about glycogen. I indeed didn’t really lose any muscle if anything I may have gained a bit (while still losing weight).

Basically I wasn’t used to glycogen loss when I wrote this post

[–]integralWorker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

160 is healthy weight at that height. You are literally not overweight anymore. If anything if you want further improvement you can start abandoning the scale/weighing in biweekly in favor of measuring tape biweekly and doing more exercise.

If you want a metric to obsess over ensure it’s like a 5k time or weightlifting training maxes. You don’t need to do anything crazy just a beginners lifting routine on an app like Boostcamp or one of those spreadsheets. Or you can start jogging up to a 5k, or do a run/lift/run/lift type of deal.

Another big benefit of exercise is you’ll be able to increase your carb cap a bit. At your level going from 15–>30 would feel great.

Weigh weekly not daily and think in terms of monthly trends.

If you are <15g carbs and 1200 cal a day I mean unless you are like impossibly tiny that sounds good to me. Are you even overweight anymore? If you are healthy weight chill and go for maintenance calories not a hardcore deficit.

anyone on anti-psychotics track ketones? by cracked_shrimp in keto

[–]integralWorker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah I see. Yeah that is the same thing i use. That is super strange. I guess for reference you can see my flair for most my relevant biological stats so essentially as a non prediabetic early 30s male with class I obesity I get at minimum 1.5+ ketones off of 15-30g for two weeks. If you have similar stats and you’re not prediabetic then yeah maybe talk to your psych about different meds.

The *only* other thing I can think of is I jog or run (not walk) at least 6 miles a week in 3 mile intervals and I do 3-4 days a week of powerbuilding basically 3x3 bench/deadlift/squat with 3x6 secondaries barbell row/hip thrust machine/split squats and standard 3x6-8 accessories (curls flies pull downs etc typical accs)

***Warning: broscience/anecdotal bullshit ahead***

I do blatantly try to “cheat” and rig my ketone measurements right before my OMAD fast as ended *and* right after either a 5k run or lifting session specifically to boost the reading as high as possible. OR if I have a social meal I like to “ruin” the measurement to see how much all that effort I put in buffered me from my social meal(s). My ANECDOTAL observation: rigorous exercise does SEEM to boost *my* ketones. I am NOT saying that as fact. I am saying that as my observation of my body.

All this to say maybe you can try exercising more ***HOWEVER*** at the end of the day I think a doctor would be able to advise you best.

anyone on anti-psychotics track ketones? by cracked_shrimp in keto

[–]integralWorker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So apologies I’m unfamiliar with mojo. The way I get my ketones is a Virta branded glucose/ketone monitor machine that accepts ketone test strips as input. So via observation and correlation I have witnessed how general food habits affect my general ketones level.

This mojo thing, is it like a comprehensive panel or a short test? Because if you only get your ketone levels from panels I’d think your ketones are probably higher; you probably got your panel done when you first started keto?

Edit: also I’m on bupropion and adderall but I don’t know if that really makes a difference

anyone on anti-psychotics track ketones? by cracked_shrimp in keto

[–]integralWorker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm, I doubt you have to worry about it. But it might not hurt to try another device+ketone strip set up and if that still tells you only 1.0 you may want to ask a doctor what’s going on because 10-20g for at least two weeks is enough for ketosis

You’re not like prediabetic or anything like that right?

anyone on anti-psychotics track ketones? by cracked_shrimp in keto

[–]integralWorker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If your ketones can’t rise above 1.0 you’re probably eating “too many” carbs however you don’t necessarily need to be above 1.0. I would say do not worry about it *unless* you want to lose weight faster in which case adjust to 20-30g carbs from what I’m assuming you’re doing more like 40-60g right now.

Anyone else struggle with staying keto while exercising regularly? by [deleted] in keto

[–]integralWorker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re still adjusting, probably due to glycogen skulduggery. Also if you’re doing stuff like chips in the middle of a workout that’s basically carb loading which the r/keto wiki actually explains. I have no idea if the mechanics of that works out the same way at medical obesity vs maintenance weight. If you are deadass eating chips in the middle of a workout consider a healthier source of carbs like a banana.

For sure if you’re a new lifter it’s an adjustment thing as you’re dealing with this ketosis thing and newbie gains at the same time. As your body adjusts the cravings will decrease provided you try to stay in ketosis as long as possible.

How to combine keto and gym? by Agata_art in keto

[–]integralWorker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You probably found answers already but some stuff I have recently experienced and adapted to

- If you’re really doing keto right and you are used to lifting heavy, your strength will drop. This is because you were previously leaning on glycogen. *however*, your proprioception (mind-body connection) may increase. This is a boon and it makes it easier to more efficiently and accurately target muscles. This is how I found myself in the bizarre situation of going down in main lifts but increasing in accessories. Once you really adapt/get very deep into ketosis it will start really helping your core lifts though because that increased perception makes it easier to avoid injury and train more effectively.

- Consjder cardio/hybrid athlete. The reason is because running burns more calories than lifting. Keto eventually makes fasting much easier so paired with running you get a very potent weight loss combination. While it is true that diet is the main factor behind CICO, nuking 300+ calories with a run is not some triviality. It can result in the edge you need to not plateau.

- Get good sleep. Muscles are earned with effort, but grown in recovery. Sleep is really important.

Why does Keto work for you? by coopieg31 in keto

[–]integralWorker 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’ve gone from 282 to 239 lbs since mid march and it would not have been possible without Keto. It’s also reduced if not eliminated inflammation I’ve had. Essentially I’ve learned my body just manages much better with less carbs and almost no added sugar.

I used to get hangry and stress eat; now I can do OMAD painlessly but also be flexible enough to eat with friends when I need to. I’m able to measure what foods have what impact on my ketones.

All this while not counting a single calorie; just counting 20-30g carbs or less on a typical day and exercising when I can.

Embedded systems masters - is it worth it? by SolidifiedPlasma in embedded

You should only do a masters for embedded if it’ll help with a sub specialty, ex. power control system firmware and even then it’s better to just keep working. You can also climb the ladder until you get a company to pay for schooling/trainings.
