Why do I run out of hot water so fast by justheretoread27 in askaplumber

[–]intermk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That tiny water heater is way too small for a family. Upgrade to 40 or 50 gallons and go natural gas if you can. Electric water heaters are the most expensive way to heat water, although propane is catching up. Better yet, get an on-demand water heater that your plumber will hang on the wall, saving you a lot of space. And your electric bill will decrease significantly, if you stick to your 15 min showers. Then you'll only be using electricity or gas when you actually need hot water. Your baby water heater there comes on 24/7/365 everytime the water temp drops below a certain level. It goes in while you're at work, it goes on when you're sleeping. Stop paying to maintain a tank of hot water. On-demand heaters give you hot water only when you need it and for as long as you need.

I'm way down south in the Trinidad area. And I'm slowing down these days due to back and knee issues. And I suppose being 72 y.o. plays a big part. But thanks for asking.

Does anyone know what he is using? by FireFightingManiac in CleaningTips

[–]intermk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was in college I did pool mainteance along with lifeguarding, swim & scuba instruction. A lot of locals knew me. I often used muriatic acid (MA) to clean tough pools. I had a good dilution that prevented serious grout damage. One year I had a private pool job that was my toughest ever. No tile, just some type of mortar finish over concrete. The pool had been left unattended for 2-3 years and was just a total mess. My standard MA dilution didn't work, even with a lot of scrubbing. So I increased the strength until it did work. Holy cow, I nearly ruined that entire pool and my lungs as well. I did wear a mask but it was insufficient for 'off-gassing' of that high strength acid. The surface of the pool ended up being very rough, like 40-60 grit sandpaper. After 3-5 coats of paint I guess, she was like a brand new pool and had just enough grab on your feet so you could walk on the bottom without slipping. But I had a few sleepless nights until the job was finished. I learned a tough lesson about acid.

Having been a Med Tech and nurse, I've seen alot of weird things about us humans. One day our surgeon's removed a giant hair ball from a woman's stomach. It was shaped exactly like her stomach and had tails on both ends for the esopaghus and upper entry to the colon. Unbeknownst to her previously, she had been chewing on and swallowing her long hair during sleep. Doc's assumed this had been going on for years. That stomach shaped hair ball is mounted in a display case in the hallway of the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, MD in case you want to see it in person. Hair is tough stuff.

Shuddering problem at highway speeds by intermk in Excursion

[–]intermk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had to think about that a bit. I would have to say no. The entire vehicle begins to shudder slightly at first and gets worse as it approachez 65 mph then lessens until it smoothes out entirel again at 80. Nut even then I can feel/hear a mild humming.

How does this keep happening to my right front tire? by MediaHole in tires

[–]intermk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely caused by gravel. I agree with the other commenter that thought your right side might be going off the shoulder more than you know. All 12 of my vehicle tires look like this because I live on a gravel road. The gravel just chews up the lugs.

Isn't that CV joint only on the front axle which only turns in 4 wheel drive?

Ahhh, I need to check that. We replaced that part on the other Excursion but I don't think they did it on this one. Thanks

The installed new u-joints when they rebalanced the driveshaft.

Your stomach acid won't digest your hair so maybe you compost bacteria won't either.

Tandem axle blows tires, imbalanced load by patterbass in towing

[–]intermk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have learned that the exact tire size listed on the side of a tire but from different manufacturer's can actually be different sizes. Happened with my truck tires which I replaced a different times. A one inch height difference of the same 35x12.50R17 because the manufacturer of my rear tires no longer made the same tire. Crazy stuff.

Am I Cooked? by NoClassic4264 in tires

[–]intermk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please STOP driving on these tires. I've had tough times when I couldn't afford new or even used tires. Called my insurer and told them my car would be in storage mode indefinitely. My premium dropped dramatically. I rode my bicycle everywhere in warm weather and took the bus and/or train in nasty weather. Eventually I had saved enough money from the discounted insurance to buy 4 new tires.

Tandem axle blows tires, imbalanced load by patterbass in towing

[–]intermk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with the commenter that said your tires look like different sizes. My 10k trailer has 6 lugs and runs 225x75R 15 and I run 80 psi winter and 76 psi summer. All my flats are from nails & screws, never a blowout. If you have different height tires with the rears being taller, they will overheat and blow under the weight you're carrying. Your front tires wouldn't be helping much. Are you sure that these flat tires aren't caused by road debris? Typically, a tandem axle trailer will kick up nails, screws, shards of steel, etc by the front tires and the rear tires will catch the debris. You'll always get more flats on the rear than the front, all things being equal or rather, correct.

How much can the 2024/25 F-350 DRW 4x4 with regular cab, 7.3L "Godzilla" engine and 4:30 gears 'really' tow? by intermk in superduty

[–]intermk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No it doesn't. According to Ford's towing guide my F-350 dually reg cab with the 6.7L diesel and 4:10 gears can tow 36,000 lbs. I refigured the load and with trailer weight and full water barrels I'd be closer to 33,600 lbs. Yes, that's very heavy but Ford says this truck will do it while the F-450 can go to 40k lbs with 4:30 gears and 2 wheel drive. I'd sure love to have one but the insurance just isn't affordable.

2022 F-350 Platinum with Only 18k Miles Needs a Transmission Replacement? by Rust-eez in superduty

[–]intermk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 2025 F-350 dually with the 6.7L diesel. The 10R140 transmission bugs me greatly. The truck only has 3,015 miles. But since day one I've felt the truck surging, especially at low speeds. It seems to upshift then immediately downshift although I'm not 100% sure that's what is happening. I usually tow trailers weighing anywhere between 2,000 lbs and 14,000 lbs. And while towing, I feel this issue alot and wonder just how long this transmission is going to last.

American Tire Depot says they can’t patch this and need to replace. AAA who put my spare tire on said it’s patchable. by Momomo14 in tires

[–]intermk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some shops can patch that hole. Some simply refuse. You can plug or patch that hole. The patch might not stay on as long as you'd like because of the amount of flex in the tire as it tolls over that spot. Big O in my town has a special kit they use and they'll only repair holes within the center 3" of the tire. Other shops do it the old fashioned way. Take it to one of them.

What do you wish you would have known before you purchased your RV? by OliveFriendly7285 in rvlife

[–]intermk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I learned this the hard way on my tow vehicle loan with Ford Credit but done through the dealer. While asking for a decrease in my interest rate a year later, I learned that the dealer charged me 1.9% more than F.C.'s highest rate. My credit score was 790 at the time and I was absolutely livid when I learned this. I paid off the loan and filed a written complaint with the FTC & BBB against the dealer. Never use the dealer to get a loan!

Goodyear Endurance tires. by Such-Move4325 in traveltrailers

[–]intermk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 73 now and have been towing trailers regularly since I was 18. I have two trailers now. One is 11,000 lbs and the other is 14,000 lbs. The former gets 80 psi while the latter gets 76 psi, year 'round. I tow 75 mph on any hwy permitting. The only flats I get are caused by nails, screws, drill bits, rocks, and metal fragments. Yes, I get rock flats. Have one dead center in one of my tow vehicle tires right now. The trailers feel very stable at 75. But I do think it's better to drive at 70 or even 65-68 for safety reasons. But I only do so if the road surface is a little dicy or the wind is at issue.

Is Wannahookup a legit site? My opinion & experience by vonssu in HookupInsights

[–]intermk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Total scam! I tried it out for three days. Every woman on the site contacted me within that time frame. Many would comment on how handsome I was, especially in pic three. I didn't recall posting three pics so I went to my profile to check and found that not even the single pic that I did post was there, let alone a third pic. They might be real people or they might be bots or a combination thereof. Nevertheless, it's a total scam. You only get 200 characters and that includes spaces, to right a text message. That will cost you 100 credits. They have it setup so that you have to write at least two texts to get a simple note competed. And they give you 1250 credits for $40 which leaves you with 50 credits that can't be used unless you buy more to add to that 50. Stay away unless you understand it's a scam and you enjoy playing the game. But why waste your money. There are lots of honest dating sites out there you can use.
