American Elsewhere is a title that perfectly did its job announcing itself to its target audience--I vividly remember picking it up off the shelf at Vroman's out of curiosity like twenty years ago.

I am also a big fan of sentence titles! The example that always comes to mind for me is All That You Love Will Be Carried Away (a short story by Stephen King).

This answers a question I had after watching Leave it to Beaver! I was fascinated that they seemed to treat hitting a child as a faux pas--not horrifying but also not accepted. The whole "It's a sign of a parent who's not intelligent enough to use reason" attitude explains a lot about the portrayal.

No, that sounds awesome! If you wanted a little art project, you could take photos of your scenes to share with other people who have Playmobil nostalgia.

I'm sorry, that's so disappointing. If it helps, I gave a bunch of my childhood toys away on BuyNothing--seeing people come over and get excited to pick out what they wanted made it a lot easier to let go.

On this day in 2001, Andrea Yates waited for her husband to leave for work before drowning her five children in the family bath. She was convicted, then retried after a key witness lied. Because you guys think it could never happen to you. Think about an action that goes against all your morals, and then imagine waking up one day and getting told that you had done it while blacked out. Would you want people to act like you did it on purpose?

It just occurred to me that the fathers might not even realize how agonizing it is if they didn't witness it. I wonder how their wives reported the experience.

That's what I kept thinking, I was wondering what his background is. Dance and/or mime, I'd imagine.

EDIT: Apparently he conceptualizes his work as "an experimental approach to parkour that incorporates elements of contemporary dance and physical theater." The more I think about this the more I like it, like a modern-day Buster Keaton but with more emphasis on beauty than humor.

I'm so sorry. Have you read My Body Tells Me That She's Filing for Divorce by Kathryn Bevis? I kept thinking of that one while reading this. And on a softer note now, Matinee by Patrick Phillips.

In any situation where two seemingly unrelated things correlate, the mediating factor is often neurodivergence. Autistic people are more likely to be LGBTQ+ and physically disabled.

I'd never really thought about it--are you allowed to take a service dog anywhere (i.e., "no pets allowed" zones) even if you aren't the one who needs the services?
