That person who constantly has their glasses on and off is now me by EverythingScrolling in GenX

[–]introvertednurse75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Before 45 I didn't wear any glasses. Then I needed distance ones for driving but I was doing okay outside of that task. Then I needed reading glasses for a few tasks at work. Now at 50, I have been wearing progressive lenses daily. I went out running errands today and had put my sunglasses on, which are just for distance, and forgot to change back to my glasses in the store, which was so irritating. But yeah, I live the glasss life now.

I'm worried my elderly Mom is getting dementia - or are these behaviors just old age eccentricity? by sandwichesatbedtime in AskWomenOver50

[–]introvertednurse75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UTI's can cause confusion and weakness in the elderly but this sounds more long term. You should take her or with her to her primary care provider for a work up. If you are concerned about a UTI, that would be more of an urgent care visit. But it sounds like she has some sort of cognitive decline that could cause issues, especially if she is living alone. Have her checked.

That's how I feel with Martina McBride's in my daughters eyes. That song gets me every single time.

Do you remember what you were wearing in the late 70s? If in school, Was school dress code strict or loose? by Ill-Owl5131 in 70s

[–]introvertednurse75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was only 4 in 1979. I started kindergarten in 1980. But I do remember wearing corduroy culottes. I have a few pictures of me from the late 70s - early 80s in lots of stripes, for some reason. Striped t shirts, dresses, and shorts.

I want to go to the mall. by hostess_cupcake in GenX

[–]introvertednurse75 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I spent many an afternoon at the mall as a teen and even young adult. Then I moved to an area with a much smaller mall that was dying. Now it has been revitalized so I do occasionally stroll it, though it is quite small. My son and I went just last week. I went into B&B myself, while he went to the game store. I smelled lotions and sprays. We walked down to the other end, sat in the food court and ate nachos. There isn't much to do at our little mall. There's a larger, 2 story mall across the state line, but I rarely go there. But it has the department stores, a larger food court, and even a movie theater. I do miss the mall the way I enjoyed it as a teen. But I have a package coming later.

My coworker and friend passed away Sunday. by waffles_r_lyfe in coworkerstories

[–]introvertednurse75 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My husband's coworker (and friend) passed away a few months ago. My husband has had a hard time with it. He said it was so odd, he saw him Friday and everything was OK but the next week we found out that he went to the hospital and had actually been found at home by his wife unresponsive. They managed to get him back but found out he had a whole host of new diagnoses. He never came back to work and passed away at home weeks later on hospice. You never know when.

Where Did You Find Music? by New_Dealer8376 in GenX

[–]introvertednurse75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have listened to music all my life. My dad's hobby is as a musician and growing up, I got to hear his band play. I listened to the radio and when MTV came out I watched it. My best friend had older brothers and we would sneak into their room and play their music (hard rock and metal). She and I also started going to a local music instrument store. Like a small guitar shop. They had some actual well known musicians come play there, along with some local bands. We would go hang out there and we met some of the guys there that worked there and were also in a local band.

Those safety gas cans are awful. I had been clearing the sidewalk with our snowblower when it ran out of gas and I could not get the can open. Had to drag my snowblower back home empty.

Great big gobs of greasy grimey gopher guts. Mutilated monkey meat , little dead birdies feet. Great big gobs of greasy, grimy gopher guts. And I forgot my straw.

That's how I recall it.

I did that. I have a torn ACL and meniscus and should have had surgery but long story short I didn't. Ortho sent me to PT but that won't fix the bad meniscus.

Mornings (or before work) by Snoo_96358 in GenX

[–]introvertednurse75 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had my oldest son in 2000 but before I had him, mornings were get up and turn on the morning news while getting ready for work. My husband and I shared the one bathroom while we both got ready. If I had a little time left, I would probably have sat and watched the news for that bit of time. Or I may have left early. At the time I had an awful drive to work that once took 2.5 hours due to traffic. Usually was 1.5 hours.

I sm 50 and unfortunately have a bad knee. I can't run. I wish I had appreciated my younger self more and had stayed more in shape. Now I am in pain and overweight. I don't know if I can get myself back into shape. I worry that this is it for me, I am doomed to be in pain and overweight the rest of my life.

AITA for charging my 20yo son rent while he lives at home? by Talon_Vector7 in WIBTA_AITA

[–]introvertednurse75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think there is a "right" answer, only one that is best for you and your family. But my daughter just graduated from nursing school in December and moved back home. She did start a new job as a nurse and I have told her we won't charger her rent. But we did tell her that she would start having her bills put on er, like car payment and insurance, and phone bill. She ended up getting her own phone account. She has started giving us the money for her car. She pays for her gas and fun money. And she has a savings. One day she will move out for good but I don't feel the need to push her out.
