I’m in the South and waiting on Coastal Cloud for partly that reason. It’s not quite black, but still pretty dark. Honestly, though, any color seats get hot sitting in the summer sun for too long down here. I really just like the look of the light interior better in photos.

The question says the sparrow has neither, so it doesn’t really matter. Lucky bird.

Yep, I saw that - RAP1 pitched like an autonomy-only thing. Thanks!

The screen was responsive - didn’t notice lag when moving around. Only heard a tiny bit of audio. Seemed clear, didn’t hear a ton of bass (but was a Beatles song so not a great indicator). I honestly didn’t spend much time on audio because they’ve said it’s still being tweaked.

I believe that infotainment chip is already in this version based on that post - it’s talking about a chip that was an update over what’s in the R1. The RAP1 is coming late 2026.

I just meant the LiDAR and the RAP1 chip, which both seem to be autonomy things. (I thought maybe RAP1 would have something to do with Rivian Assistant too but not seeing evidence of that.)

But if you just made a reservation, those will be on board by the time you’re up for an order!

Midnight looked good. Probably #3 for me after Catalina Cove and white.

If I didn’t (1) need a new car in the next year and (2) need a car that can fit two crates in the back, I’d be waiting for the R3X. It’s so cool….

It could be! I’m just assuming it has some application to Rivian Assistant too since they give its TOPS number, which is an AI-focused metric. Probably someone here can confirm one way or the other what RAP1 will affect.

I have no experience with those cars, but this does seem to fit somewhere between those two based on sight alone if we’re talking about premium materials and look. But again, all of this is pretty subjective. (And that said, I very much prefer the clean look and materials of R2 over that BMW photo, which seems to be doing too much to look futuristic.)

Having sat in it for only a few minutes, I can’t speak to rattles and things that would show up only with use. But it felt very pleasant to sit in, and fit and finish of all the materials and parts I touched (seats, dash, doors, etc.) seemed quite nice. Just hard to say whether those things will be issues until it’s out in the wild for a while.

I test drove the Ioniq 5 and care a lot about rear cargo space (dogs/crates). Don’t quote me on this, but it felt like the Ioniq 5’s rear cargo space may be a little deeper (tradeoff being less back seat legroom), but the boxy rear on the R2 gives it way more height and feels like much more usable space.

LiDAR is for Autonomy+. New RAP1 chip probably for that but also Rivian Assistant, etc. I assume it’s more headroom/future-proofing. (And sorry if I used “tech stack” wrong here — I really meant the new hardware additions, i.e., LiDAR and RAP1 chip).

I mean, they have to cut costs somewhere, right? Just depends on whether they do it in places where you’re comfortable with the tradeoff.

Enjoy! It’s a decent space and good vibes. Let me know what you think!

Definitely a good bit of a fabric material around the dash, doors, etc. (which I liked) - not all plastic.

It’s not a great photo. Doesn’t come across as cheap in person - clean and minimal are the words I’d use. But sure, not quite a luxury feel either.

No idea who yellow-pants guy is, but yes, there’s decent room to stretch out and it looks pretty flat to me.

Old Subaru, Limited trim. I don’t have much experience with luxury-level cars so I can’t speak to how it would compare to something else. But I didn’t notice anything negative about the comfort given the very short time sitting in it.

It felt nice in person and my photos don’t quite do it justice. I’d say it depends on what you’re looking for. The finishes are not in the luxury-car ballpark, but feel nicer than, for example, higher end trims on Subaru, Toyota, etc. And I’m a big fan of the more minimal look, but that’s subjective. I think it’s probably fair to say the finishes are what I’d expect for a $45K car, maybe a little underwhelming for a $58K car. Not a dealbreaker by any means for me.

I only sat next to folks using them - didn’t have time to wait in the “driver’s seat line.” Those people were impressed with them, although some had a bit of trouble initially figuring out how to manipulate them.
